As far as following Randy's thought about how he'd treat his mother should he find a rant like that, well... I'd also have to consider how I'd treated my mother to earn such a rant in the first place. Granted, we're getting only one side of the story here, but I have a feeling Ilene's stating it pretty closely. It's plain that a deal was struck to work off the mortgage payment rather than paying it in cash. If he had a landlord or bank who were not his parents, would they expect to wait so long to have the work accomplished? Would they have accepted such a deal in the first place? I doubt very seriously that a bank holding his mortgage would have accepted such an arrangement in the first place. Perhaps a landlord may have. But they would not have waited so long. It would have needed to be done in good time. Keep in mind here, my Mother and I do not have a speaking relationship. I'm sure there were things on my side as well, but the ultimate causes are her fault. Should she ever come across a rant from me regarding our relationship, I would not mind. I have no problem in standing behind anything I say or type. I would hope that her coming across such a rant would perhaps open her eyes to her own behavior, but knowing my Mother, that's doubtful. I have children as well. Two of my biological children are grown and on their own. Should I ever come across a rant from them regarding me, I'd have to examine my own behavior. Perhaps it would be hurtful, but I'd rather face up to my behavior than not. It would open a conversation between us regarding the why's and how's. I would see it as a chance to make my stance clear and see if there were a compromise we could come to without me being "walked on". LOL, alright, I'm touchy on Ilene's behalf and I don't mean to rub Randy in it. I know I've ranted about my Mother and having attempted a conversation regarding certain things, only to be told I didn't understand, that my brother was born dead, though perfectly healthy now, and he needs help- though his problems... and most of my parents'.. are his making. I'm not going into those issues again, it serves little purpose. Ilene, I'm very happy for you that the painting's finished and I'm glad that he finally fulfilled his obligation. I still agree with your stance in the previous thread regarding future accommodations like this. The house looks GREAT, even if you did have to do a lot of it yourself! I want you to know I think you're a wonderful parent for doing this for him and I'm sorry he didn't realize that you were really doing HIM a big favor. You probably could have had the job done sooner and for a better price (considering all those brushes and rollers!!!!!!) by a professional. Here is the information you seek. Read through the info and apply the patch designated for your version of Windows. If you're operating Win 10, no patch is necessary. According to MS, Win 10 isn't affected by this ransomware. https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/security/ms17-010.aspx ETA: I see that Win 10 versions are included in this particular update release. In other information later issued by MS, they reported that Win10 was excepted from this latest problem. I make sure my system is always up-to-date with patches so if I were you and I used version 10...I'd add whatever appears in that security release just to be on the safe side. HTH

So many great plans here! I'm so jealous! I have the next five months of intense work to look forward to and no time off at all. This summer, I'm contemplating taking my mother and my daughter to see Mom's people in Indiana. My daughter has just a few short weeks between grad school terms and she has this sweet relationship with my 88 year old aunt. It feels like I ought to make that trip happen. My spouse and I discussed a New England trip this fall and I might have to start making plans for that, just to keep sane over the next few months!

Your expectations are incorrect. Sorry. What is typically done with new construction is a list is made after move in as things become more apparent. Of course, the HVAC not working, roof leak, water intrusion or a plumbing leak would need to be dealt with immediately. At 3 months, have them create a list of issues and repair them. Do your own inspection, too. Most items will be lose screws, paint imperfections and drywall nail pops. Just prior to the one year point ask them to make up a final list. Both of you go over it in person. Discuss the needed repairs. Once completed, have them sign off. Paint and finish are usually the biggies. Tell them that you will make repairs, but you will wait for paint and nail pops until the final list. The reason being, the house will settle, the framing timber will dry out and additional pops will appear. That's the nature of drywall. Unless you can fix these yourself or you have a handyman on call, you will want to have them fixed at one time. Paint issues are always a problem. The sheen will be different where any repair was made. You will need to fix this correctly. Touching up the spot isn't sufficient. The entire wall needs to be repainted unless the paint is a flat finish. Flat finish can be touched up. Any other finish will "shine" and the entire wall will need repainting. Not the whole room, just the wall. It is reasonable for the homeowner to expect the finish to be correct. Leave the left over paint with the homeowner with instructions for them to store it in a safe place. You will need it to make repairs at the one year mark. Dirt and crayons on walls is not a reason to repair. You sold them the house. Your responsibilities do not end with the exchange of the key and the check. Just try to keep the process organized and make certain everyone has the same expectations. Be best friends for the next year. Extra patience on your part is a job requirement.
