Basement Entrance Drawings..
Comments (8)Rrah - The entrance from the outside would be in addition to the interior entrance.. We were looking for a separate exterior entrance so when storing things that we don't want to track through the house we could just access from exterior.. Also we thought it would be easier to bring in/out any furniture when we do finish the basement down the road.. Trying to plan for the future.. So when you think about contractors and workers going down to work in basement I just figured it would be easier and cleaner to just have an exterior entrance to basement.. Kirkhall - Thanks for the input.. I wasn't even thinking about snow.. I know for rain the architect said we would have to put a drain at the base of the stairs and he mentioned in the fall about leaves and debris and making sure nothing blocks the drain but I wasn't even thinking about snow.....See MorePainting Bilco doors
Comments (0)I have a steel Bilco door as an exterior entrance to my basement. I recently painted them with a coat of Rust Destroyer and two coats of Benjamin Moore Urethan Alkyd Gloss Enamel. I had the paint store tint the enamel to navajo white. The doors look OK, but I am not crazy about the high gloss. I thinking about putting on a third coat with something that has more of a matte finish. Does anyone have a recommendation of what I could use? It needs to be something for exterior metal, with a color close to navajo white....See MoreTemporary basement entrance
Comments (21)I would want that glass top system somewhat higher from the ground level. A snow fall of any extent would have to be brushed off and then the area around the stairs cleared so that when the glass top is lifted, the edge snow doesn't fall into the stairway. A heavy overnight snow might limit egress or make it impossible until the snow is dealt with from above. The glass top idea looks good, but one should make sure it is still good when it becomes a done deal and reality intrudes....See MoreIdeas for exterior walk up basement entrance
Comments (5)What will you do with the interior stairs? An easy entrance would be to move your door to the garage to the foyer, maybe recessing the closet into the library. Then, close off the hall to the basement door hall, or put a door locked fom your side. Replace that window with a door, and your tenant has their own entry....See Morerwiegand
