What happened to my thread?

I tried to post to everyone who posted to my thread, Question about desktop icons. last night. When I tried nothing would work. I just came back on to try again and I noticed that part of it was there but not the rest of it and the bottom of the page looks as if no one else can post on it. What is going on anyway? I have never seen a thread like that before. Did anyone else have problems posting last night?

I will try to post the latter half of my post here since I apparently can't do it on my original thread.

One last thing that I'd like to say is that, I realized after I posted this thread that I forgot to post that my OS was Windows XP that was my fault, no one elses and I also know that you can't read my mind when I make mistakes "LOL" but, you all are so great in jumping in and trying to help me with the information that I give you. When I say that I appreciate your help, I really do mean it and if I make a mistake just shake your head and say well she did it again. "LOL" For all of you who are on this forum have a super great day. "Smiles"

I hope this one works and that I gave you the rest of it. This is weird.

Those who post and forget to add the basic information needed to be helped should not worry too much, by the time help is sought they are often totally frustrated with everything. It gets a little more frustrating if after a couple of requests for details we still do not get those answers needed to help them in the best way.

Glad yours all worked out alright. I had seen the other thread was missing the ability to make any additional post. The gremlins must be busy and giving the site's IT folks big headaches.

I too went to your thread to add a comment and found the thread was not right, you had a partial reply at the end then the page just ended with no reply box option and and none of the usual links at the bottom of the page, I have never seen that happen, it totally made the entire thread locked nothing can be done to it.

what I wanted to tell you was just grab that little icon restore program I gave you it is extremely small really just adds a line to the context menu for you so you can keep your layout saved. you will love it.

I don't know what happened to it, but I am so mad... I've mentioned this before, but I'm going to mention it again. I am a slow typist. I spent a long time replying to Connie's original post. I told about all the cookbooks I had and got rid of and told about getting rid of my gooseberry patch cookbooks right now. I told about my Southern Living annual cookbooks and about a little plastic thing I keep inside my cabinet door in the kitchen. I also told Connie that I keep a recipe she posted in that plastic thing. Then I took a couple of pictures of the plastic thing, put them on Photobucket, then posted them here. I also posted the recipe of Connie's that I use a lot. At the time she posted it, she said she had not tried it. My dh loves it. After all that slow typing, just as I finished the recipe I started telling about cooking mine in a Nesco Roaster instead of in the oven. I was looking at the keyboard and looked up to preview the message and I saw where my computer was doing some kind of update. It said it needed to shut down and restart. I tried to copy the message, but the little update screen wouldn't let me. Once my computer restarted, I retyped my message, reposted the pictures and retyped the recipe. I was able to post it. Whew!!!, but now it's gone again. Welp, guess what, y'all are going to just have to always wonder what that litle plastic thingie is on the cabinet door that I like so much and Connie's recipe will always be a mystery to you, because I refuse to go through all that stress again. :) Linda

For those of you on Chrome, when you go to Stories and Advice, have you actually clicked on GardenWeb Discussions? Try it and see what happens. I do not get a list of forums but rather a mixed list of posts made to the forums in my personal My Topics list with a heading of Your Topics as if it's a forum unto itself. In order to get a list of GardenWeb forums I click on Explore Topics in the left column and all GW garden and home forums come up. HOWEVER I am on a laptop, not using an app on my phone, accessing through Chrome on both AND not using the Houzz web address. We all know IT is not their strong suit here so none of this surprises me.

Well I hope the gremlins don't get this one. I just want to thank everyone for their posts to my other thread.

Owbist, it was just a simple oversite on my part, I knew better but was in a hurry and forgot.
The gremlins must be busy and giving the site's IT folks big headaches.

They weren't the only one with the headache, I first thought something went wrong with my computer, then I started checking out other sites and discovered it was this site only. Does anyone around here have Raid? It might get rid of those pesky little critters. "LOL"

no it will not it just puts a new item in the context menu so like if you right click on my computer it will now have added save desktop layout, and restore desktop layout or words to that effect, on that link it shows exactly what it says in the picture. very very small add on but so nice to have, I put it on all of mine.
