How tight is 'tight'? I mean, an Advantium and an induction cooktop do not fit my definition of 'tight'.

The appliances will be donated up to $7000. Anything over that we will be paying for.

That being said, if we can't use the Advantium to replace an oven, we will go with two appliances ie oven and microwave.

I am no help on the appliances, but just wanted to say I am sorry for your family's situation and I hope you are back on your feet again as soon as possible.

How dreadful! But how good that they're getting the place back together.

I think a good wall oven and a countertop microwave on a shelf would be a better use of money than an Advantium. I love my Advantium as a third oven, but I don't think I'd want it to be my only one.

The dishwasher is a place where you can save some money. People are thrilled with their top of line Mieles, but people are also very happy with their Kenmores.

I can't remember which it was, but I've heard good things about one of the Korean french door fridges. Samsung or LG. Maybe you could do a search on those. I have a friend who has had one of the first, a Kenmore, for a long time now and is very satisfied with it.

If I were in that position, I would go to the big box stores and their clearance centers (Best Buy, Home Depot, Lowes and Sears) as well as whatever you have locally and look for return items. We bought a returned freezer at Best Buy and got a really good deal but saw an even better deal on the French door fridge with 2 freezer drawers. Normal selling price is about $3500 and they had one with a slight ding below the dispenser for $1300. I'd have bought it for my utility room if I could use a 36" in there!

With all the appliance rebates that have been going on, it looks like there are more scratch and dents available now. Lowe's had twice as many as usual when I walked by there recently.

What I did get for my utility room is a 33" LG bottom freezer, and I really like it. I just went to Best Buy and had no trouble picking that fridge in titanium, Bosch DW, GE self cleaning gas range and vent plus and microwave all in stainless that would not be top of the line but would be better than what I've gotten as builder choices in any house I've owned. Total was under $5000 and that would probably give you room to upgrade to double ovens and cooktop or oven/micro combo and cooktop. And that's new in the box. Scratch and dent could leave bigger options.

So sorry you are having to deal with this. Keep your sense of humor, gratitude that everyone is okay and many will have it worse, and try to find silver linings where you can. ((( )))

I'm in a market that probably compares to Nashville. I got almost 30% off my appliances at Lowes. Ended up with Samsung FD refrig, induction cooktop, dishwasher, hood and wall oven/convection microwave combination (all Bosch) for about $6,000. So, it can be done with some bargaining and comparison shopping. I did buy the extended warranty on 3 appliances ($149? maybe) which sweetened the deal for the salesman.

Sears OUtlet would be a good place to look for a fridge and/or an oven. Also washer/dryer since I assume you'll need one. My local store has a good selection of fridges and stoves, not so much for MW or wall ovens.

Between the LG and the Samsung fridge, I'd go for the Samsung. LG has the icemaker in the door which is problematic and an energy hog.

Loves, please see my post on your other thread- about my suggestion of Ikea appliances. They'll fit-have a five year warranty and looked gorgeous to me. I seriously considered them for my increasingly high end project.

I just have to say I am sorry this is happening to your family and completely understand what you are going through as this happened to my sister in Hurricane Gustav. The entire first floor had to be gutted. They were fortunate to have flood insurance; however, even with the insurance there were still issues.

Loves, me again. There are lots of possibilities price wise, but Ikea appliances will fit in Ikea cabs, guaranteed. Take a look in Schaumburg, just down the road.

Oh Ilana I am so sorry to hear this. I hope they can rebuild quickly. I'd look at Kenmore dw -- I agree with Pillog. My friend got an LG French Door and loves it. I agree about oven and countertop micro. What about a stove? Something like GE Cafe has 2 ovens -- there have been some stories about those here but my friend has one and likes it a lot. It is gas -- not sure about electric with those. Or an NXR stove -- in the right price range. With those I think they could come in on budget.

There is a Sears Outlet (aka "scratch and dent") on Thompson Lane near Nolensville Road. We purchased a freezer for the garage there, but sometimes they have things that have no damage, or the damage is a dent on a place where you can't see it. I would definitely look there. We used to have a Kenmore french door refrigerator that I loved (we sold it with our house when we sold) and am very happy with my Kenmore Elite DW.

I hope you are able to get your family back in their home very soon!

loves2cook4six, I am in Nashville myself (Hendersonville). My new kitchen remodel (planned) starts in 1.5 wks. I have a few appliances (still very good) that I am replacing with higher end (Meile, etc.). Email me and maybe we can work something out. I did not get flooded.

That's great. I hope that works out. We sped up an appliance purchase years ago and timed it so we could donate the old ones to a family that got flooded out. Made me feel really good to be able to help them out and I got the justification I needed to replace a working pair. :-)
