Samsung 29 cu ft fridge?

In searching the boards for refrigerator advice, I saw that Samsung was coming out with a 29 cu. ft. refrigerator. I double checked their website, and, sure enough. However, no brick-and-mortar-store site seems to list it, and I know I didn't see it at Lowe's today. Has anyone seen this in a store? I checked the sites for Best Buy, HHGregg, Lowes... oh, haven't checked Home Depot or Sears yet; will do that tonight. Just wondering if maybe it isn't officially released yet? If anyone knows..... Thx!

PC RICHARD is supposed to carry it at some point. it's on there site.

We were told by Lowe's that they will be carrying this around the first of June. We have our name on a waiting list.

Freshman, You asked if I saw the Whirlpool Latitude (their new ~28 cu ft French-door refrigerator). Sorry it's taking me so long to respond, but construction to repair flood damage here has kept me busy. Yes, I did look at the Latitude on a couple of occasions. I think it will be strong competition for the Samsung, containing most of the same features. The Latitude does offer a superior ice maker that is in the door and the bin is easily removable. The display has more info than the Samsung, such as the TOD, and the water dispenser is adjustable, so you can fill large vessels. What it is missing is the twin-cooling, but I haven't been convinced that's important. I dismissed the Whirlpool for my application solely because of esthetic design considerations. My kitchen and family room are one open space, and the fridge dominates, so getting the prettiest "monster" is very important. I need a black refrigerator (only because SS have grey sides -- anyone know of a SS with black sides?), and the Whirlpool black is a tinny looking metal vs the shine of the Samsung. I also am not wild about the design of the handles, but I could live with them if the finish suited me. I was told that KA will probably introduce a similar FD in about a year after the bugs have been worked out of the Latitude. I would expect the KA to have a bit more "polished" look. I think the Latitude would be a nice addition to many kitchens, it just doesn't seem to fit mine. I hope this helps. Ellencr

The one Lowe's has has only two DEEPER drawers and no long deli drawer. The other has shallower drawers and a long deli tray drawer. Depends on what you might need. When I take the plunge, I specifically do NOT want the deli drawer but would prefer the two deeper ones. People who have lots of parties would probably prefer the addition of a long deli tray drawer too. Sears also has that one....

I somehow missed this thread before I started a new one regarding this Samsung refrigerator. But I couldn't find a way to delete that thread. Here's my post from earlier today: I was refrigerator shopping at Lowes and I was very impressed with the Samsung 29 cubic foot French Door refrigerator. (The model number is RFG297AA.) I really like the large interior volume along with the layout and flexibility of the storage areas. But I have some concerns about potential reliability and service issues. I normally check Consumer Reports subscriber based reliability data but they didn't have anything for Samsung refrigerators. I assume this is because they done have a large enough sample size yet. I then ran some Google searches turned up some horror stories with other Samsung refrigerator models. See the link below for a collection of complaints. The reported problems were both with reliability and service issues. So I'm curious what other forum members might think about Samsung refrigerators in terms of reliability and servicing. I am debating between these 2 FD units. I like the fact that the LG has the ice maker on the inside of the refer door, freeing up shelf space and Home Depot is discounting them. However, I was shocked at the number of consumer complaints vs LG. I wonder if the gain in cu ft w/ the thin-walled 29 cu ft Samsung, is negated by the refer shelf placement of the ice maker? Is LG the only mfr that mounts their ice makers on the inside of the refer door?

While at Lowe's yesterday looking at refrigerators I had a chance to talk to a Samsung rep. He said they will start appearing in the stores in about two weeks. The lower priced version without the full length deli cool pantry will show up first and then soon after the more expensive version. Both will have LED lights and water/ice in the door.

I wonder if the extra space is worth the extra money? I'm toying with the idea of buying the 26 cu for $2200 rather than $3000 of so for the 29. Does anyone know if the 29 is replacing the 26 or if both will still be available? Are there any other differences between the two? This is the last appliance decision I need to make but at least I have it narrowed down to the Samsung. ; )

I asked a local bigbox store salesman about these. He had an information sheet that stated the fridge is almost 38" wide, not the standard 35 5/8. It is also almost 38" deep. That is one big honkin' fridge!

From the Samsung website: RFG297AARS (28.5 cubic feet), Net width 35 3/4", Net depth with door handle 35 3/8", Net depth without door handle 33, Net depth without door 29 1/8".

That's what I had read, too... that it was bigger inside while still maintaining the outside dimensions. And as for space, I had a 26 cu ft fridge before, and when we remodeled, I wanted a fancier stainless one with fancy shelves, etc.... so I sold my 26 cf to my brother and bought a 24.5 cf one. Now, maybe it was the layout (though they were both side by sides)but I felt like I lost space. It wasn't until I was putting stuff away and using it daily did I check on the cf info on each, and sure enough, I had lost a little. If that little bit lost made a difference to me, I bet 3 more would really help me out. Three kids, someday teenagers, lots of food... I could use the room. BUT... in our new house, we will be gaining an extra fridge in the basement, so maybe I don't have to be so greedy in the kitchen. Food for thought (pun intended ;)

when i talked to jason @ pc richard he told me it was on sale for 2609.00 which is 291 less then best buy. best buy wouldn't say if, when or how much it would be discounted but it would be 2900.any idea who else might sell them? the guy at lowes..... believe it or not was an idiot.he knew absolutely nothing.

On Monday, we went to Lowe's to check on this refrigerator.
They didn't have it on the floor, but did say that they have them in their warehouse now. We purchased it and it should be delivered next week. Then went to Best Buy and they had it on the floor, but it was approx. $200.00 more.
We are in NC if it makes any difference in the location of Lowes or Best Buy. Will advise more after delivery. :)

I ordered one from Lowes and it was delivered two days ago. I opened it for the cabinet maker to get exact measurements, but had to seal it up again. It is currently sitting in my garage. The drywallers need to come and tape up all the drywall in the garage and kitchen/great room. It is my understanding that this makes a terrible mess, that is why it needs to remain in the box.

I was able to see both the 26 and the 29 side by side at Lowes this weekend. The 29 was $1000 more and the extra room wasn't readily noticable. I decided that the 26 was deifintely the one I wanted at that price point but then of course that floor model was the last they had and it was quite dented. Lucky for me I found the updated 26 with the easy open freezer at Best Buy and purchased that. It will be the last of my appliances to arrive and still no kitchen.

This fridge is outstanding!!! It has Twin-Cooling Plus as well. Very nice. The ice production is great, produces a lot of ice as usual. It's also e-star compliant. Just because it's bigger on the inside doesn't mean more energy is used. The walls are thinner than typical, which I heard, Samsung adopted from German engineering. The depth is a tad more. Fantastic fridge!!!
