Samsung new 29 cu.ft.

I'm considering the new FD Samsung and was wondering if anyone has purchased one. I looked at it at Best Buy and the salesman told me that Samsung made the GE refrigerator until last year. Don't know if that's true, but I've had extremely good luck with my old Kenmore and am ready for a change. (The old fridge is a side-by-side and I thought I'd like the FD with bottom freezer.) I've read complaints about the GE's and thought I'd ask for opinions.

The predecessor to this Samsung got good reviews. This fridge is new enough that I doubt there is much of an experience base for it. That said, the capacity and the Samsung reputation are enough to sell me.

Anybody know if deals are available on this fridge at a national chain this weekend?

I've been looking at this fridge too. Check lowes if you have one near by they seem to be on sale this weekend about 300 less then Bestbuy.

Thanks jagzand and fwhartford. We've had the fridge only since the beginning of November, and so far so good. I did get the extended warranty from Sears, but I can cancel it any time during the regular one-year warranty period and get a full refund. I figured I would see how the fridge performed for the first few months, and if all seemed well, cancel the extended warranty. I am sure the Samsung is much more energy efficient than the fridge it replaced-- most of the time I cannot hear the compressor running at all. The 29 cf replaced Samsung's 26 cf model, and I think that one had high marks for reliability. Jagzand, the other appliances are a 36" Bluestar RNB range, a GE Monogram Advantium, a GE Monogram ZET oven, a 48" Futuro Futuro hood, a Bosch 800 series DW (not pictured), and a 24", 10 CF LG fridge (I use it as a "kid fridge"-- same footprint as fridge drawers but a whole lot more room). Very happy with all the appliances, though I think at times I would have been better off with a 30" Bluestar, as the 36" has a gigantic oven cavity. Glad I went with the fatty fridge!

We have a GE Profile counter depth refrigerator and like the design much better than our old refrigerator. We don't 'lose' things in the back and I don't have to move everything around in order to find what I want. In terms of over all storage - we do have a refrigerator in the garage that has our 2nd, 3rd, and 4th (3 kids) gallons of milk, other backups and my husband's beverage stash. As much as I really like the design I'm not sure we would be able to have the counter depth without the back up frig.

I am debating between these 2 FD units. I like the fact that the LG has the ice maker on the inside of the refer door, freeing up shelf space and Home Depot is discounting them. However, I was shocked at the number of consumer complaints vs LG. I wonder if the gain in cu ft w/ the thin-walled 29 cu ft Samsung, is negated by the refer shelf placement of the ice maker? Is LG the only mfr that mounts their ice makers on the inside of the refer door?

I don't know what you went with, but we just ordered the GE Profile 25.5 CU. The sales person at PC Richards to me GE makes the frig for Samsung. We were thinking of the 29 CF but was told the difference is equal to a half gallon of milk more. We decided it wasn't worth $400 more. Also we went w/ ge profile slide in range & microwave.

rtmom2 - unless a lot of the additional 3.5 cu ft up from your 25.5 cu ft unit is unusable, the difference should be a whole lot more than a 1/2 gallon of milk - I'm curious because eventually I'm hoping to replace my fridge with something like this.

That's what we're planning on using . . . DS has the smaller Samsung FD and they really like it a lot.

I somehow missed this thread before I started a new one regarding this Samsung refrigerator. But I couldn't find a way to delete that thread.

Here's my post from earlier today:

I was refrigerator shopping at Lowes and I was very impressed with the Samsung 29 cubic foot French Door refrigerator. (The model number is RFG297AA.) I really like the large interior volume along with the layout and flexibility of the storage areas.

But I have some concerns about potential reliability and service issues. I normally check Consumer Reports subscriber based reliability data but they didn't have anything for Samsung refrigerators. I assume this is because they done have a large enough sample size yet.

I then ran some Google searches turned up some horror stories with other Samsung refrigerator models.

The reported problems were both with reliability and service issues.

So I'm curious what other forum members might think about Samsung refrigerators in terms of reliability and servicing. It would also be great if some current Samsung owners could post their impressions.

i have the samsung quatro fridge. I love it still after over a year. Still to this day, and I am doing a kitchen remodel now, I would buy this fridge again even thugh all of my other appliances that i am getting are viking. there is no other fridge on the market like this one. it is the one and only one that has the two drawers on the bottom that can be freezers or a fridge. it is the best thing for any kind of drinks and what I use them both for. There have been times over the holidays last year when i was cooking for a large number of people and used one or the other for a freezer or produce drawer. I was very leary about getting it, and almost didn't. but, in the end I'm glad that I got what i wanted in the first place. my salesman at lowes almost talked me out of it because there are so few repair people for samsung. but, thankfully i have not has a reason so far to miss not having a repair man near me. i hope it stays this way too. look at the quatro, it looks alot like a french dooe fridge with the single freezer on the bottom, except that its alot better in my opinion.

The extra 3 cubic feet that you get in the 29 cubic is equivalent to 3 grocery bags. Way more room than people think. This particular model also has Twin-cooling plus which has 70% humidity -- way more than the conventional cooling system at 9-17%. The higher the humidity in combination to the cold air, the better because your food stays fresher even LONGER. Samsung is a great choice!
