free dessert plates

OMG! Would you believe that all that was wrong with my camera downloading to my computer was a low battery????? Must have been, because I snapped some pics of my dogs yesterday and it told me the battery needed charged. This morning I sat down here and thought I'd try to dowload my pics "one more time"--and it worked! I feel so foolish now--but also so thrilled that I can share pics again! A technical guru I'm not! LOL

I've been wanting to show you these little dessert plates--a gift from the friend who owns the little antique/collectibles store. I think they are so cute and humorous.

Oh, Luvs, they're wonderful. Just the thing to use when the girlfriends come over for coffee and dessert (hidden under your new painted cake dome).

Luvs, so glad your camera prob wasn't major and that you were able to figure it out! It doesn't matter that it was something simple, what matters is that you can post pics again! And what lovely dessert plates those are! The sayings on them are perfect and because you've already eaten the dessert by the time you read them, you don't have to think about having "just a sliver"! lol!

Glad you're having finger sandwiches, cheese and fruit. My girlfriend has a party each Christmas which features nothing but sweets. I like a little sweet stuff now and then, but this is replete w/ chocolate fountain, chocolate martinis, cosmopolitans and trays of marvelous pastries. Nothing savory at all! It gives me a headache to think of it even now. My strategy the last couple of years is to eat before I go, and nibble on something seriously divine and maybe grab a strawberry or two from the chocolate fountain set-up. If there was just a little tray of sandwiches, I'd be happy.

A simple fruit dessert would go well. Pears poached in wine comes to mind, but pears usally need a few days of ripening after they are purchased. It's a little late for that. Cherries Jubilee would be nice, although not really light. Some sort of dessert crepes might be the answer. They can be made ahead and quickly assembled before serving. Or maybe Bananas Foster. Or just some very good fresh fruit, artfully presented with a couple of good vanilla cookies. Brilliant of you to post that link to the Tom Jones film, Arley. I had not seen it since it was in the theaters in 1963. It certainly was the rage back then, if only for that one scene. Now, if that could be recreated at home for Valentine's day...

Yet one more.... My mother had Celiac disease and made this recipe quite often. She loved Pineapple Upside-Down Cake and this took it's place after she was diagnosed. -Grainlady BAKED CRUSHED PINEAPPLE 3/4 c. sugar 1 t. cinnamon Dash nutmeg and cloves 2 eggs, lightly beaten 1/4 c. cornstarch 20 oz. can crushed pineapple, DRAINED 2 T. melted butter Preheat oven to 350-degrees F. Grease an 8-inch square baking pan. In a mixing bowl combine sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves and cornstarch. Stir in pineapple, eggs, and butter. Mix completely and place in prepared pan. Bake 20-25 minutes, or until set and lightly brown.

It depends on what they're used for. If there's a lot of knife and fork work, of course they'll be marred, but if they're just so people can walk around with something to hold their bonbons and not worry about dropping and breaking them, then, yes, they can be reused. Wash in a dishpan and dry as you rinse so they don't get spotted. And have extra, because a few always die along the way. An environmental note: For large scale catering, considering all the resources that go into transporting and washing crockery vs. recycling or disposing of the plastic, the disposables often win on total resource usage.

I'm so glad you figured out what was wrong with your camera. I've tried to get pictures off my camera when the batteries are low and it just keeps turning itself off. - Gail

I agree with everyone...those plates are adorable. I like the sayings on each...in fact, I'm actually guilty of All the sayings!! lol

Glad your camera issue was resolved, and it wasn't something costly.
I've had a similiar problem like Gail. My camera turns itself off, when it needs to be recharged.

Dawn, I didn't paint these! They were a gift from a friend, but would be easy enough to paint a similar design on something I guess.

You gals are so great--didn't even make me feel stupid for not realizing that I should try charging the battery. It didn't shut itself off or even warn me that it was low--until I'd taken the pics of my dogs that is.

OA, my son says that if I'm going to leave my cake tin out on the counter, it should be hiding a dessert--so that whoever picks it up won't be disappointed like he was! LOL

Jane, I'm guilty of all those sayings too, and DD you are so right about not worrying about it until the dessert is all gone! LOL

Nana and Punk, I'm glad you enjoyed them too--I love the pastels colors, but especially love the sayings which really made me smile.
