Hood - Vent-a-Hood PRH18342SS s/s 42"w x 18"h Professional style hood, 1350 cfm equivalent When a company is selling you a "magical" systen that is just as good as other companies with higher specifications beware. At least have the sales rep show you how you clean this system. I would look at Prestige,Modern Aire, even the 1000cfm Kobe before I would buy the VAH. Bar Ice Machine - U-Line CLR2160B-40 black 15" undercounter clear ice machine This is likely to last you 2-4 years before it starts giving you headaches. I would get the Hoshizaki.I think all the appliances on your preliminary list are made in the USA and with the exception of Sharp are American companies. The Hoshi is made in Georgia and is a lot more reliable.It is not a little better but a lot better.It is twice the price but worth it IMO. A notch below is Manitowoc. They make under-counter ice-makers for Sub-Zero. Very expensive. They sell equivalent units under their own brand without residential warranties. Double Oven - Viking VEDO130SS s/s 30" "1" series double oven, upper convection (CLEARANCE ITEM) I would strongly prefer the Wolf.It seems Viking oven reliability has improved the last year or two but I would not pull the trigger. Companies like DCS have tradtional knob design. I would look there before buying Viking. I would probably get something else. Washing Machine - Whirlpool WFW94HEXR red 4.3 cu ft Duet front-load washer Dryer - Whirlpool WED94HEXR red 7.4 cu ft Duet electric dryer If it has to be Red & American then there is really no choice. If it just has to be red I would get the equivalent Samsungs. If it does not have to red just made in the USA I would hunt down a pair of Bosch Vision on clearance. Highest washer temps for USA available washer at 170 degrees. On board heater engages in all cycles.True European Wash or as close as USA available machines get. It divides cycles into 12 temperature zones and washes at least 3 minutes in each zone. Removing 99.9% stains and not allowing 99.9% of stains to set it. Dishwasher - Kitchen Aid KUDE40FXSS s/s 24" undercounter dishwasher I would read through linked thread and similar before pulling trigger. I still like made in the USA Bosch better and Miele best. Thank you both so much for your suggestions. I am feeling like I am really leaning toward induction, but I am disappointed as I just read rave reviews on Elux ovens, but awful reviews on their cooktops, and vice versa for Bosch. If I could install a Elux oven under the Bosch cooktop I think Id be very happy, but Im not sure if that can be done. I don't want anyone voiding my warranties because we mixed appliance brands. I could possibly put my oven in my island? Glad to see I have an option to get a very professional gas range if I go that route. I'm not sure yet what the discrepancy is regarding the size of the hood. Would a 20" pass inspection and adequately remove grease & odors or not? If it would, don't know why I'd need bigger? But if it wouldn't, think I better look for more affordable range, if I go that route. What type of hood would I need for an induction cooktop? I believe the requirements are lower? Induction sounds like it would fit me best, especially since I've never used gas I think maybe I just don't know what I'm missing. But I have to figure out how to get a decent oven in an acceptable space.

Hi Sorry about your fire - that sounds awful. And sorry for long response. I'm in similar appliance hunting mode and trying to pick the best appliance package for under $14K. We could probably pay more but already feel like our kitchen project is out of financial control and costing more than i ever thought! So what i did is that i really like the advantium and i like the bosch dw (thermador is same). Really all i want is the culinary rack (3rd) in DW so that limits the model #s. KA offers this as well. Miele - i just don't love for the price. The thermador package didn't work for me because i really wanted the advantium as my second oven (and thermador doesn't have equivalent). Plus the free DW isn't the one with the third rack. (you can pay $500 to upgrade to that one though) Bosch is offering 15% rebate by mail if you buy at least 3 800 series appliances. And monogram is offering $1000 instant rebate if you buy a cook/rangetop, oven, and hood. With my current quote that i am considering, I'm getting about $2300 off total by combining those 2 offers for 6 pieces (mg rangetop, mg advantium, mg hood, bs dw, bs fridge, bs single oven). Looking at your appliances here are my immediate thoughts: if price is no object subzero makes the best fridges if not antiquated stylewise. They are so solid. i have one that 23 years old and it runs great and still looks good. the service has been good. but i can't spend 2/3 of my budget on one appliance! wolf is good and stylish but i found the specs to be better other places: monogram then thermador - and cheaper. don't do downdraft ventilation if you can avoid it. look at hood companies - vent a hood, best hood. they are nice. my friend has a samsung fridge and its beautiful but the plastic is breaking and she doesnt recommend it. i like the electrolux ovens. very cool. but no package options. bosch and thermador are very similar if not the same for some products. i'm trying to figure out if the bosch 800 series oven i'm looking at is the same as the massterpiece thermador oven at a lower price. thermador is higher end brand than bosch. gaggenau is even higher end. rangetops are really nice - more burners and higher output and in monogram all are the same. but you lose a drawer underneath. i'm coming to the conclusion that the oven problems that some are reporting is due to fancy electronics being destroyed by self clean. thermador and monogram get terrible reviews here for ovens. with equal price and specs i would go with the subzero and wolf (i know this isn't true - sorry!). I would doubecheck what you are getting for free. it may be low end compared to everything else you are getting.

1. I don't own either, so I can't comment on more than noted here. A 1200 CFM rating (neither will achieve this flow rate) should be sufficient, depending on many factors you can read about reviewing hood related threads on this forum. 2. Deeper (front-to-back) is always better for plume capture, so long as the hood is mounted high enough that it doesn't block one's view when cooking. 3. MUA in many municipalities is required by code. The MUA is intended to keep house pressure from falling too much and back-drafting combustion appliances, if present. Else, there may be a carbon monoxide hazard. MUA also is necessary for the hood system blower to reach a desirable fraction, say 2/3, of its rated (zero static pressure) flow rate.
