Induction Slide-in: Electrolux vs Kenmore

I'm torn between the Electrolux and Kenmore induction slide-in ranges. I've read good things about both. I love all the neat bells and whistles that the Elec'x has (the sliding racks, lighting, 2nd oven.) My biggest issue with the Elec'x is that it seems a litte more bulky and the controls stick out into the walkway a bit more than the Kenmore. We have an island across from the range so how far the it protrudes past the cabinets is a big concern. Any opinions out there from owner's of one of these ranges?

I was hoping this question would receive some responses, because I'm also considering these. Unfortunately I can't provide any opinion as an owner, yet.

As I recall, the Electrolux induction range comes with a meat probe, but the Kenmore doesn't; I don't think either has a rotisserie. So I'm leaning toward the Electrolux, but I'm not so concerned about how it protrudes.

I have the Kenmore induction slide-in and am very happy with it. What would you like to know about? I don't anything about the Electrolux so I can't compare.

The Kenmore does come with a meat probe (I used it at Christmas to make a turkey breast and it worked wonderfully).

I personally think the biggest consideration when buying this stove is the burner layout -- mainly because there are size limitations on the pans you use on each burner.

I like my stove because I can use a 10" and a 12" skillet together in the front. I could probably even use two 12" skillets together in the front if I owned two. I tend to use larger pans so this was important to me.

Let me know what else you want to know.

Do a search for Kenmore 3104 Reviews, then do the same for EW30GS65G In doing that , I just counted the stars in the reviews, most for the Kenmore were 3 stars, while the Elux was 5 stars, It didn't matter whether I looked at Sears, AJMadison or whatever---I saw the same trend. Be sure to take the time to do this yourself and actually read the reviews---sometimes the reviews are "dupicaltes" written by the same person even thou on a different web-site. I don't know about the 5F. The condition you describe sounds just like what happens when the Range is "Locked." On the extreme left of the control panel is a "Lock" Icon with a 3 in it. Is it possible that someone rested their hand on that for 3 seconds? Unlocking the Control Panel & the oven door requires pressing that Icon for 3 seconds also. Good Luck. I have had mine for two & a half years now with no problems. I frequently lock mine when not in use. Even though my two cats "know" not to get up there, they might "forget" when I'm not around. Another safe guard would be to not leave any pans or kettles on the surface when not in use. This way, even if a surface unit was accidentally turned on, nothing would happen. It actually wouldn't even go On with nothing there.

We love this range.... & would buy it again! As with every new appliance, there are new things to become familiar with.... the induction cooktop is very straight-forward (and we had used an induction plate prior to buying this range, so induction wasn't a new concept to us), but the oven seems to maintain more humidity than my old one, but I have learned to use convection more since I last posted... so for things that i want a drier or crisper result, I use the convection option, or open the door a bit to let the extra moisture/steam out. I haven't found it takes noticeably longer to preheat than my old self-cleaning oven, but I see others have complained of this. The oven interior is slightly smaller than my old one, but I've gotten used to that, too, now. I recently used the bread-proof setting which worked like a charm. If I had a wish list, I would put a small hob at the front, since I use the small hobs a lot, and if you are stirring or tending the pot, it is nice not to have to reach back quite so far for an extended period of time. There weren't many choices available in my region when I bought this range. It was either this one or a GE cafe induction range. I'm sure there are more to choose from now, but I'm better with fewer choices, otherwise I'd never be able to make up my mind! Wait for the big sales if you can... stores sells these for $1000 - $1500 off the regular price, & I've seen these big appliance sales more than once each year.

On the point of durability/reliability as a factor: Athough this is good point to consider, I'm not sure how much we can really say about the Bosch slide-in gas range being or not being more long lived than the freestanding Electrolux induction, nor how much longer lived it might be. The hope is that a gas range without much in the way of electronics for the burners will have less to fail and therefore last longer. Still, the big uncertainty is the result of of the prevalence of electronic control systems in all kinds of major brand ranges. All seem prone to some early failure and to reflect susceptibility to issues with high-heat self cleaning cycles. I have to say, that a lot of the discussion that I've seen here about longevity of gas versus induction has been about gas ranges that are premium-priced pro-style ranges and re-conditioned vintage ranges rather than major brand gas stoves. I sometimes see citations to statistics garnered and reported by the National Assocation of Home Builders and Consumer Reports which were indicating 11 year lives for electric ranges and 13 year lives for gas ranges. Turned out, though, that those statistics were about replacement rates rather than appliance life expectancies. Plenty of folks remodel and replace functional ranges for something they regard (or hope) will be better. On the comments, "I can get a slide-in model that I like and I prefer the appearance over a freestanding" and "There is no slide in induction range that I like not to mention the price differential." Choosing any stove is inevitably choosing a mix of compromises of design, engineering, and budget. Induction burners are just one of numbers of factors to consider. How you weight that factor along with all the other considerations may be different than how I or most others else here might weight our own preferences, priorities and/or prejudices when choosing a stove. My own aesthetic preferences run to old-fashioned appliance white with a tolerance for stainless steel and general distaste for black casings. Yours are the opposite. My preferences are not "better." They are just what I prefer. So, I say, have confidence in your own priorities and your own budget. When you are paying as much for a stove as these cost, aesthetics are a valid consideration. Re the comment: "Even more burner/hob control than gas - seems like it would be better at lower heat levels such as simmering." Another set of tradeoffs rather than clear choices of one being intrinsically better than another. I'm not sure that that there is necessarily better low heat "control" with the Elux freestanding. There might be, might not be for you. Depends on what and how you cook, what you cook with, and what your preferences are. While the Elux burners have more low-end stepping than on most induction ranges, the settings are still digitally stepped. The Bosch burners have "analog" adjustments which are theoretically infinite. Do we really need infinite adjustability? Some of us want it. Others of us find there are enough steps in digital controls for what and how they cook. There are a number of OTOH tradeoffs beyond this. With a pan that is matched with burner size, an electric burner will deliver heat more evenly spread across the base of a pan. Spread is one thing. Steadiness is another. Depending on how the power cycling works, the heat may or may not be steady. With induction burners, you will have a small circle in the center of the toroidal induction field which is outside the field and where you depend on the pan construction to spread the heat. On the induction burners on most ranges, including the Elux you are considering, heat cycling is very even and steady, so you won't see power cycling in pan liquids. (Not so much applicable to some Whirlpool ranges and cooktops which reportedly have cruder power cycling rather like that on many portable induction cookers). With the Bosch gas burners being capped rings, you also get a toroidal effect in heat delivery and it can be more pronounced than with induction at very low heat levels. Again, a pan's construction may spread the low heat sufficiently evenly to the edges and to the center. Otherwise, when you put a pan on a small gas burner and turn the heat way down, you may find the low flame concentrates the heat towards a small area in around center. No big deal for simmering liquids but maybe a problem with things like delicate thickened sauces or chocolate where having the flame concentrated towards the center. Depending on your pan's construction and how you want the heat controlled, you might or might-not find yourself wanting a flame tamer plate. Another OTOH is that the Elux digital control make it very easy to exactly repeat heat levels when you figure out the ones you want to use. With gas, you have to eyeball it every time. At least I do with the gas that gets delivered in my town. (We are near production fields but get last choice, so the quality varies.) This is why I prefer my induction burner for my pressure cookers. Are any of these big problems? Maybe. Maybe not. They seem to have been concerns for some posters here. The concerns might or might not matter for your own cooking and interests.

Hi Stir_fryi, I'll chime in with a question! I am also currently shopping electric/induction range options. I'm only able to go with a 30" range (currently have an older Kenmore electric slide-in, not my purchase), and I'm seriously shopping the Kenmore slide-in induction range. My question: sears.com has rave reviews of this range; however, a couple of reviews on GW have described issues such as the oven lining chipping, or control panel issues upon purchase and initial use of the range. Have you experienced anything unsatisfactory with your range? Do you love it?

Within two weeks of getting my range, it started throwing fault codes. We had to shut of the circuit breaker to get it to stop. The technician was pretty clueless and wanted to "replace of the computer boards." I talked to my salesman and had a brand new range delivered a few days later. Since then (7 months ago), no problems.

I different poster (beachlilly) had the oven liner flake off when she ran the self-cleaning cycle. She has had it replaced twice I think. She has also had issues with some burners.

I do love this range. The stovetop is the best! Great control on EVERY burner. The convection oven works as well as my last one. The only thing I have limited use of is the warming drawer. I think I've used it twice but it takes a long time to preheat and does not get that hot in my opinion (but I've never had one before so what do I know?).

Do you mind me asking if you also purchased an extended warranty with the range? Your story makes a good argument for not dealing with a faulty range upfront.

Have you used the self-cleaning cycle? Have you heard of anyone else experiencing a faulty lining?

I did in fact buy the five year warranty. It costs more than the five year warranty for a standard electric range. I asked for a discount on the plan (because it was very expensive) and, at first, I was told they can't discount service plans -- but then he did knock some off the price.

I have only used the self clean feature once. I have some flaking where the racks glide against the sides of the oven but not enough to warrant a service call. beachlilly is the only one I know that has had the oven liner replaced.

Thank you, Stir_Fryi! I really appreciate your feedback. Still haven't decided to pull the trigger, but to me, the Kenmore is worth the gamble. I love the GE Cafe slide-in (induction still not available with GE for slide-ins), but most likely I'd still be seriously leaning toward the Kenmore induction. So many positive reviews online...

Hello, I have the Kenmore induction free-standing, which is actually made by Electrolux! Don't know if Electrolux makes the slide-in, too, nor what differences there are between the Kenmore and Electrolux versions. I love mine. I did have the clock mechanism replaced shortly after it was installed, as not all the numbers showed properly. I was a bit annoyed by this, as they said this was a known problem and there was a repair kit, so they should have fixed it before they sent it to me. Sears repaired it promptly, with no cost to me, and everything has worked beautifully since then. It does have a probe. I've used all the features including the self-cleaning function with no problems at all. I highly recommend induction cooking :)

I was planning on purchasing the Kenmore slide-in during this weekend's Family and Friends sale. I have been watching prices for a month. I am a bit concerned because the service agreement which was quoted to me by the sales rep in the store at $379 for 5 years (and confirmed online at that same rate) almost doubled this week to $634.99! Have they discovered problems that require a lot of expensive servicing? I read online that some people had problems with oven liners flaking after using the oven cleaning cycle the first time. Anyone have ideas as to my the service plan would have shot up so much overnight?

Anyone know what P6 code is when you turn the burner on? I have an Electrolux Induction slide in electric range. I had the referred repair company out to look at it clueless! he said its the pans, you have the wrong pans. I get new pans which are magnatised, same thing. Oven works great, burners will not heat up. Yes, the electrician checked the power itd correct. Any help please??????
