Bathroom demo unveils old water damage by tub

Hi, long-time lurker, first-time poster. My 2nd story tile demo has revealed water damage on the edge of the tub on the subfloor. It looks like it's from years of sloppy showering, letting the water leak out of the curtain. I'll know more tomorrow about what's behind the wall when I finish the shower surround demo, but since it's totally dry (as no one has used it in awhile) I don't think it's an ongoing leak. Is this common? Is it time to call a professional? Can I just put my durock over it and tile away? The wood isn't totally rotted away, but it's dry and brittle.

Here is a link that might be useful: a couple pics
