I add several sprigs of fadey purple flowers to my autumn wreaths....I will have to admit though..the rest of the wreath is gold, deep oranges and some reds..sorry....
I also like to use red, green and gold for Christmas. After Christmas I bring out lots of silver, a little blue and some other colors for the time period between Christmas and spring!

I like that idea of having a transition period between Christmas and spring. Kind of takes the edge off the sudden lack of lushness that Christmas leaves behind.

And there's no need for sorry-- I know most people love harvest colors and I absolutely appreciate that. I've seen people do beautiful displays for fall.

I just grew up in a very 70s harvest house. Every room. And even our high school colors were orange and black. I've been a bit over-oranged in my life. :-)

Jenn, well, you have me nailed right LOL, I do like doing different colors, I think in reality I am OCD...I do totally understand that most people like to stick to the tradtional colors of Christmas, it is what they were brought up with, so it ends up being heavily rooted in family tradition. I do love the tradtional colors too, so I figure I get the best of both worlds LOL

P.S for instance, my mom would hate my pink ornament tree or my cream and crystal tree, even the "all red" tree from last year, because it would not be how she decorated, since it would not have the tradtional mix of colors....

While I don't decorate as lavishly as most of the posters here, I do like to play around with different colors for Christmas. My favorite was a few years ago when, after giving away most of the traditional decorations to my kids, I bought cobalt blue and lime green to go with the white and silver tree decorations I still had. I like the idea of using different colors other than the traditional ones.

Another year I did all white, silver and gold on my 3rd tree which is not unusual but not traditional.

Not sure what I'll do this year, it's the first year we won't be at home and I have only kept one tree.

Luckygal, thanks for joining in-- I can almost picture the combinations you're talking about, and it had to have been just striking. I look forward to hearing about what you DO decide on this year!

Judith-- you do beautiful work, traditional or non-traditional. I somehow think your mother might rethink her dislike of non-tradition if she saw some of your work with pink. But I understand how you feel-- I imagine my mom's reaction to be similar to that.

I do have a traditional tree in my livingroom. But the rest, I really enjoy playing around with.

Plus Michaels is kind of an enabler. It seems to have new ornaments each year that call to me. And they go half-price pretty quickly.

For the past 6-7 years, most all of my Christmas decorations in the main parts of the house have been pink. Of course I have other colors in with it, but pink is the main color.

The only break from this is a small 4 ft tree that I usually put up in my dining room. It's entirely decorated in a Wizard of Oz theme. I didn't do the WOZ last year...instead it got decorated in vintage/antique pink ornaments and knee-hugger elves.

I love being non-traditional with my decorating. Most of my family (mother, aunt, sisters) doesn't really care for it, but it's what I like.

I am probably going to regret this, LOL....but besides pink and yellow, I've never been fond of orange at all. To make matters worse, the traditional red-green combination kind of bugs me too, unless lots of other colors added to break it up. OH the SHAME of my color phobias.
LOL. I dearly love hunter green and burgundy, and of course purple. Also I prefer silver to gold.
However, my shopping trip to Michaels today saw me buying a LOT of traditional orange and brown florals. And faux pumpkins. Guess I'm getting converted AGAIN by you guys, since I'm already leaning toward some pink things now.
For that matter, all this decorating is something new for me as well. (DH wants your addresses so he can send you the bills. LOL)

Karen, you are just too funny! Tell DH that we don't HAVE any money--we go shopping too! LOL Haven't you seen that commercial on tv where they deliver new appliances, and the DH looks at the wife who then plays a recording of him saying "Honey, if I can just get these golf clubs, you can buy ANYTHING you want." I love it--know it will come in handy around here someday with the "dish police." LOL

You know, I kind of lean towards the fall leaves that have shades of red or burgundy in them. That's why I loved the little boxes of beaded gourds at Homegoods--they had some that were burgandy! But I had already bought my other ones from Marshall's so I resisted the temptation.

I remember Judith telling us that she always checks out the drugstores around the holidays too because they often have nice decorative items at great prices. I ran through CVS to pick up lunch items to take to work this morning, and have to go back. Lots of neat looking stuff in there. Anyone else found anything good at the drugstores?

I am jealous of all you gals who have room for multiple trees to decorate. Sounds so fun. I barely have enough accumulated decs for one tree! LOL Of course, that may change now that I have found this forum!

LOL, Luvs I use the golf thing quite often. That commercial cracks me up too. Now that DH plays golf 5-7 days a week since he's retired, I figure it really gives me some leverage if needed.
I use to buy a large, live tree of course. Then when kids were grown and seems we celebrated at their houses instead of mine, I actually hit a couple of years I did NO decorating. Seemed too much trouble with no one to enjoy it but the cats. Who enjoyed it more than I wanted. LOL
DH doesn't care one way or the other, it's "whatever makes you happy, Dear" usually with him. Then I started just doing a small table top tree. But since we moved 3 yrs ago, I've gotten more into the spirit I guess and enjoy Holiday-izing this house. Now I've met the gang here, am sure that will only increase. Last year I did several small trees. Don't want a big one, no place to put it, and still the cat issues. Besides, I like doing small trees in different decor now. My kids get the huge trees, and boy do i mean HUGE. So I can enjoy their's.
I'm finding the more housebound I am getting, the more pleasure I get from simple things. Judith's stacked plates, which brought me here in the first place, have been a total ray of sunshine in my life. They are so much fun to change out for the seasons and holidays, and just make me feel good. I owe her BIG-TIME for this Day Brightner.
I don't even have words for the pleasure I get from the stacked plates, just know they really help me deal with Life's little issues these days.

I guess I stick with the traditional colors for fall just because it seems fallish, but I have more reds with berries and candles than oranges,browns and yellows. They are more background colors. Doesn't matter cause it all gets lost amid the kiddie decorations. ha

I decorate red and white for Christmas, but red is my favorite color. If pink was my favorite color you bet I'd go with it. I work red into any holiday (except maybe St Patty's Day). :) ~Anj
