Double wall oven/cooktop or range and wall oven?
Comments (14)jmith, thank you AGAIN! I really appreciate your posts :-) Uh...where does the air make-up unit go?? Breezygirl, wow, thank you for your thoughtful and reasoned post! Yes, upon reflection, an underccounter oven would not be good for my back. I was thinking that maybe I would only use the second oven for parties and holidays, but sometimes we have friends over every weekend. Good point about the cost of separate ovens. I do like the look of double ovens, too. Especially the Bosch 800 series and the Kenmore Pro, but it is very hard to find anything on them...few mixed reviews online. I will ask on this forum. And do some research on Electrolux as well, since they seem to be popular here. I saw the Wolf cooktop at Great Indoors. My mother has a Wolf range, but she hates to cook. Lol. OK, will also look for the Capital. Hadn't heard of it until this forum. Yes, found ajmadison and HomeEverything. HomeEverything has slightly better prices, and usually free shipping. Yes, you're right, I couldn't find a published price on the GE Monogram counter-depth anywhere. I have to call or email each site to get the price, and from what you and the GI saleslady said, there probably won't be much difference except for no tax if I buy online. I have accepted that I can't vent with an OTR MW. I will have to spring for an undercabinet hood. Bleah. $1400. Ugh. Loss of cabinet space. Boo. I am thinking that, since I was planning for stacked 42" + !2" or 36" + 18", I will have to mount the MW under a cabinet...h'mmm...maybe I will have to do a mullion door on a 36" or 42", since the 12" or 18" are supposed to be mullion? Thought briefly about putting MW in island, but kids are 6 and 10 and tall, too. LOVE the Kitchens forum. Haven't posted my floor plan yet, trying to get up the courage to post pics of my truly UGLY kitchen. It doesn't look as bad or difficult on the floor plan as it does in the pictures Will check with contractor. Presumably he is up on all this stuff. Never heard of MUA until cooksnsews mentioned it! The GE Monogram ZFSB25DXSS is currently $3825 @ Great Indoors, on sale. I liked it bc it is 25 cu ft and well-planned inside. It looks.like close to the same amount of space that we have in our KA Superba, which we bought 9 years ago and has never given us a problem. I will look at KA fridges, thank you! I need the MW drawer money for the undercabinet hood. Boo. But the fridge isn't in my appliance budget, anyway. Lol....See MoreShould I do one double wall oven or two single wall ovens?
Comments (4)I grew up in a kitchen with two totally different wall ovens. One had a great broiler and rotisserie, and opened to the side. The other was fantastic for baking, especially things that needed a consistent and gentle environment. It was also good for gigantabirds. Both could handle most ordinary tasks. For instance, cookie baking marathons, or multiple chickens. Both were at optimal height. The side opening one could take advantage of what would have otherwise been a dump area by a doorway. The drop down door was by a wall where the other couldn't have fit. The design of my non-attached ovens (Gaggenau combi-steam and single) are so heavily weighted to stacking that they would have looked dumb if they hadn't been. Giving up separate optimal height ovens for that is one of the decisions I question constantly. It solved some other problems, but I still rue it. If you have the money and space for two single ovens, do it! And remember, if they're independent ovens they also don't have to be next to each other if the design works better to separate them....See MoreWhats in Today? cooktop with double wall oven or range and single wall
Comments (16)As others have posted, what is "best" is the configuration that most suits your needs and your kitchen. If you have a large kitchen, the choices would be different than for those with a smaller kitchen. Your cooking needs would also factor in. What exactly are your concerns? In terms of my kitchen (which is a very small galley in a high rise) I opted for the following Bosch Induction Cooktop - gas is not an option in my building but frankly after reading the pros and cons (and having cooked with both gas and a crummy old electric coil) I might well have opted for induction anyway - especially in terms of ease of cleaning as well as safety. Bosch Side Opening Wall Oven - If I was going to sacrifice space and pay additional money for a wall oven versus a plain stove, I wanted to achieve the optimum ergonomic advantage. With a side opening oven, I can access the oven by standing directly in front of it. With a standard oven door opening at the bottom, I can only access by reaching from the side - what's the point of that? Sharp Microwave Oven with Tilt Up Controls - I didn't want a crappy over the hood microwave/vent and there was no room for a microwave any place other than the counter or as a drawer. My drawer is under the Bosch wall oven and is a perfect height. As others have posted, all microwave drawers are manufactured by Sharp and there is no reason to pay more to have a more expensive "name" on the front. The other reason I didn't want an over the stove microwave is because of the height as I didn't want to have to remove hot items above my head. Although I don't "cook" per se in my microwave, I do use it to reheat leftovers and heat soup as well as other stuff like steaming vegetables. If I had more space, my configuration would be different as I would probably have gotten a steam oven under the Bosch side opening oven but I simply had no room for a second wall oven and my cooking needs aren't such that I need two wall ovens. Or I might have opted for one of the fantastic Breville countertop ovens to use when I needed two ovens - which really has been almost never in my life as I have always managed to figure out how to work around only one oven. Or if I had more space, I might have opted to create a cubby for a standard microwave at a good height with a pull out shelf underneath it to act as a landing spot. Really as others have posted, there isn't any right way to do things other than keeping in mind that over the range microwave/hoods are a pretty terrible way to go if you have any other choice....See More36" range with single 30" wall oven vs 36" rangetop 30" double oven
Comments (7)Not sure if I'm too late to the party here or if you are still deciding. When we renovated our house 12 years agoe we went with a 36" bluestar range with gas oven and a GE Monogram 30" electric wall oven with GE Advantium Microwave/speed cook/convection above it. I've been super happy with the decision. I cook all the time on the range top and mostly use the wall oven however love having the big gas oven, which fits 2 turkeys for Thanksgiving and roasts them beautifully. Unfortunately our GE Monogram just went kaput so I'm now shopping for a new 30" electric wall oven. Will most likely go with the GE Monogram again but wish I could find one that has knobs and looks a bit less slick. If you've already picked would love to know what you went with and if you are happy with the choices....See Moreplllog
