Advice 36in gas range or cooktop/double wall ovens
Comments (12)Buying a suite of appliances from one brand is almost always a bad deal and no retailer can possible sell every brand available in the US. Induction is not amazingly superior to gas. Although induction is superior to typical sealed gas burners induction is not superior to commercial type open gas burners. There are pros and cons to each. KitchenAid induction is in fact inferior to American Range and Capital Culinarian range tops. Many induction cooktops produce a buzz noise and KA is in fact notorious for it. The younger you are the more likely you are to hear it and some people refer to KA induction as teenager repellant. LOL Both AR and CC have a higher high plus you can use the multiple power burners all day long. In the KA you can only use the single power hob for a time limited and it pulls electricity from other hobs so you can't use all induction hobs at maximum rated KW at the same time. Induction is in theory more even in heat distribution but in reality undetected. KA has a lower low but not really useable below what is provided by dedicated simmer or small pot burner in the CC and AR burners. When induction breaks it can't be used until replaced with specific part or assembly. Gas burners can only have two things that break; generic spark modules or igniters, and you don't need them because you can light with a match or lighter. Those commercial burners will give 50 years service life while the induction will be in the landfill with no longer made antique parts. No appliance company makes the best appliance in every category. KA's main competitor is GE Profile. Profile makes better ovens while KA ovens have a reputation for dying after self-clean cycle. KA makes the best American type dishwasher while GE dishwashers suck. Miele makes even better dishwashers. They clean better, have fewer problems and use less water and electricity. The one advantage of some KA dishwashers is they can dry plastics better. KA refrigerators have shown to be more reliable than GE but less reliable than Samung. It is better to buy the best appliance in each category and shop for best price than to buy a suite of some good, mediocre, and bad appliances. Even if you get a rebate and matching handles....See MoreOpinions - Wall Oven vs. range vs. cooktop & single oven...
Comments (21)I currently have double Viking wall ovens and cooktop and I love them. However, I do love the look of the commercial ranges. I find that both of my double ovens are not really at good heights for me though. I'm 5'4". The bottom oven is a little low and the top one (the one I use the most) is a little high and I usually have to get my son or husband to help me with getting heavy items out. So, while planning a kitchen renovation on a new house, I chose the Thermador 48" range with the steam oven and warming drawer. I realize I might not like going back to bending to get things out of the oven, but I know I can reach them myself. I also was able to free up a lot of wall cabinet space so I can put in a nice pantry cabinet which I need in the design. My kitchen design is all on one long wall really with a 16' island in front of it. I am getting a Miele speed oven and putting that in the island and it functions as a convection oven/microwave. I'm guessing it will be the oven I use most when cooking only for my husband and myself. I've agonized over this for months now (range vs. cooktop and wall ovens) but in the end cabinet space and "the look" of a commercial range won out! And, honestly, the only time I use both my wall ovens now is at Thanksgiving and Christmas. It is a big waste of cabinet space 363 days out of the year :) I hope this helps and good luck!!...See MoreDouble wall ovens plus cooktop vs. range
Comments (27)I'm going to be the voice of dissent - I would NOT want double ovens. I do a lot of cooking that starts on the the stovetop and then finishes baking in the oven, using a cast iron dutch oven. I couldn't do this if the cooktop was across the room for the oven. Also, I only know two people in real life with a double wall oven, my grandmother and my aunt. Both only use them both if they are having a holiday meal with more than 10 people. Otherwise, they seem to be a huge waste of space. I'm short and I can't reach the top one very well, and I hate the pull down door on top - its right at my face, and I'm always burning my arm on it when I try to put something in or take something out. I have to get someone else to that job when I'm cooking with the family. I love my range, however. If I had lots of extra money, I'd go with something like a Lacanche, with two ovens. But I'd never ever want wall ovens. It just doesn't suit my cooking style. I say get what you want. I never worry about resale, except when I'm trying to justify having to spend a ton on something...oh well, if I have to put in new HVAC, at least it will up the value of the home. Well, if I have to redo the entire roof, at least it will up the resale value....See MoreAny one own a Bertazzoni Wall oven/ Range Cooktop or ZLINE Ovens?
Comments (1)I installed Bertazzoni double oven and 36-inch range top during our remodel in 2021. The rangetop performed excellent. Those two dual-ring burners are really powerful and easy to control. The double ovens have had lots of use and work great. We actually moved to a new home in November 2022 and we are planning to update the kitchen this year with the exact same set up....See Moresummerbabies
