Your Opinions re: Range vs Cooktop & Wall Oven
Comments (5)I have a range and wall oven. We are in the middle of having lots of gatherings at our house. We are in our late 50s. I did get a range for one oven because I thought it would be good to have it under the hood. I use it mostly though when I a cooking for a big group and cook the long cooking things in it. I probably would buy separate pieces when I do my next kitchen. Some advantages for separate components for me would be - the ability to pick the "best" of each - the ability to place each appliance in the best place ergonomically - each piece can be replaced separately if need be I think ergonomics is one of the most overlooked things in some of the kitchens I've seen. I don't think looking ahead a little is a bad thing especially if you want to age in place. Changes in your abilities can come on suddenly. A friend of mine has issues with balance and the first thing the occupational therapist told her was no bending over to the oven....See MoreDouble oven range vs wall ovens
Comments (7)4amblues, I did consider option 4, thanks, but eliminated it because my space is SO limited, I was trying to keep things grouped together. The range would also have to be positioned near the dishwasher, and I'm not as crazy about that idea as I'd like to keep a more unbroken line of cabinetry there. It is a good thought though, that I actually have a design drawn up for. Rocketmomkd, thanks for the input. I know the walkway is a less convenient spot for it; not at all idea. So hard without knocking down walls and claiming other space that folks are actively using, to make this all work in a tiny spot. I'm glad to hear how well you like the double range - I was concerned about how much the upper oven can hold. I also wonder how hot it gets, compared to cooking on a cooktop while your double ovens bake away at a distance. Hags00, thanks for chiming in on that too; I have wondered about the lower oven issue and what it's like to get a turkey or large dish out of there so low down! It still sounds like a viable option and I'm glad to hear it works well for both of you. Ginny20, I haven't even looked at conduction cooktops, I'll have a look. I wish I had a space to claim in the garage, what a great idea to set the ovens in like that! I'll spend a little time thinking on that one... Microwave: with plan 1, would go to the right of cooktop, undercounter. Plan 2, would go undercounter in the spot I've considered for the double wall ovens, if they don't go there. Plan 3, under counter as well in that other spot. It was suggested to me that I get a combination microwave conduction oven, but it's not uncommon to have the micro, both ovens and cooktops going here, so I think I will use them all. Thank you for the input!...See MoreRange vs gas cooktop over oven, and 30" vs 36"
Comments (3)I found that the size played a bigger role in aesthetics than I thought. In a very large kitchen, a 30 inch range may look underwhelming but you may be able to compensate for that visually to give it more presence. My kitchen has a very long wall. I had initially been leaning towards a 36 in induction cooktop with wall ovens placed elsewhere. Because of the proportions of the room, and some other considerations I went with a 48 inch midnight blue Aga Elise induction to be surrounded by white cabinetry and a blue island. Once the range went in, it still looked too small for the space so I had the cabinets on either side painted in the same navy blue to give it more presence. You are wise to consider the overall proportions of the room. And yes, aesthetics do matter....See More36" range with single 30" wall oven vs 36" rangetop 30" double oven
Comments (7)Not sure if I'm too late to the party here or if you are still deciding. When we renovated our house 12 years agoe we went with a 36" bluestar range with gas oven and a GE Monogram 30" electric wall oven with GE Advantium Microwave/speed cook/convection above it. I've been super happy with the decision. I cook all the time on the range top and mostly use the wall oven however love having the big gas oven, which fits 2 turkeys for Thanksgiving and roasts them beautifully. Unfortunately our GE Monogram just went kaput so I'm now shopping for a new 30" electric wall oven. Will most likely go with the GE Monogram again but wish I could find one that has knobs and looks a bit less slick. If you've already picked would love to know what you went with and if you are happy with the choices....See Morejenellecal
