We used 3/8" glass for our guest bathroom shower (the only bathroom for which we got a glass enclosure). We "up-charged" by using starphire/starfire glass to preserve the whiteness of the tile when looking through the glass, and we added Clear Shield (fabricator applied product vs Shower Guard, which is done as part of the glass manufacturing process). Even though the shower doesn't normally see much use beyond a week or two each yr when my parents come to visit, we have hard water, so an ounce of prevention gives us piece of mind (that the glass is protected against clouding/etching). We keep a squeegee and after shower spray in there when the shower's in use as well. We also went with a slightly taller enclosure height; the clips would have hit right in the middle of our border tile mosaic at the lower height. The 3/8" thick glass feels very sturdy, and substantial, not flimsy or rickety in the least. DH and I used that shower exclusively while our other bathrooms were being reno'd, and we were very happy with functionality of the shower door/enclosure.

My niece turned and walked into our tempered patio doors and broke the glass. She wasn't moving quickly or running. Fortunately only a few pieces of glass fell, although the entire outer pane fractured into a spider web. She was not hurt other than a bump on the head and a small cut.

I did ours through Wilson Glass. They shipped me a kit of parts/hardware and suction cups. They placed the glass order with a local tempering plant. I picked up the glass and installed. Shipped the suction cups back to Wilson when I was finished. That was 3.5 years ago. The main things to keep in mind are that 1) you have to do the measurements, so any error is on you and 2) the glass is heavy. We did 1/2" glass, and our fixed panel (admittedly big) is about 120lb, IIRC. The 30" wide door is more like 70lb. Getting the door and panel in place took 3 people and 3-4 hours. Mostly 2 to move/position/hold and 1 to mark/drill/install hardware. Measuring for the door and panel was a challenge, and having a helper for that makes sense if it's more than just a door. Our fixed panel is 42" or so wide and has a cutout for a bench. It's held in place by 4 small clips/channels and gravity. Locating them (2 on the wall, 2 on the bottom, with the cutout in between) was also a painstaking process. If that doesn't dissuade you, go for it. I saved somewhere around $700 to $1k by DIYing it.

Well, that changes things. I'd still put the door on the long side furthest from the toilet. A simple door is probably best. A sliding door probably means a track and tracks tend to collect yuk. I'd put the hinge on the toilet side, but either would do. My in-laws put in a sink like the one you're looking at into their very tiny only bathroom maybe 5'0" x 9'8". It looked good. The problem is you need other surfaces to set things on like soap, hairbrush, toothbrush. I like hiding the plumbing. This is an adobe house and there were some issues with the 1940's plumbing, so we had to make some repairs in the tub/shower (adobe walls on two sides covered in concrete) and took the opportunity to refresh the bathroom. One of the things we did was to replace the good looking sink with a more functional small vanity. The three kids who live there were so excited! They also liked the new medicine cabinet, the light that was actually bright, and the turquoise bottom half of the room. Small things.
