Sink color for dark granite/light cabinets...

Hi. We are redoing the countertops of a master bath, but not replacing the cabinets. The cabinet color is medium light tan with a bit of gray (sorry no pics...) and the granite is very dark - almost like UbaTuba. I'm not sure whether to use black sinks, or stay with white to match the tub.

Anyone with pics of light sinks with nearly black granite? All I've been able to find are pics of kitchens, which have stainless sinks of course....

hi, we are doing very dark granite (blackish brown) with light sinks(kohler sea salt). our vanity will be dark wood. i think if your tub and toilet are white, i would stick with white. the contrast can really look nice! i also saw at the bath showroom some light, almost transluscent sinks(undermount-also kohler) which looked neat. i don't think i'd want black for a master bath sink--i think it may show lots of spots and need FREQUENT drying.

I went with a white sink in a soapstone vanity. I like it.

Welcome to the kitchen forum! About posting pictures -- have you seen the instructions in the "ReadMe" thread (link below)? The key is to understand that there is no photo hosting capability on this site; you can't "attach" photos the way you could in an email. You need a website like photobucket (or, my favorite, Google's picasa) where you can upload and store your photos. Then you can add in links to them in the messages you post here. About your countertop question: how much light is there in the kitchen? Are there multiple windows? If not, I'd be careful about going really dark with the counters... but that is a personal preference. It's not as if there are rules about how to make these choices. If only there were -- then it wouldn't be so hard to decide! Are you sticking with laminate for the counters, or considering other materials? we really stepped out of the box and went with espresso stained cherry, sedna granite, granite backsplash on cooktop wall, rubbed bronze door hardware. i dont like stainless, so we paneled appliances. although we did use harvest gold stain on refrig. and some trim pieces. we were afraid it was going to be too dark, but it looks awesome, imho. we do have a skylight, kitchen window, sliders in dining room and dining room window, so we do get alot of light. we also did 2 glass upper cabs. alot of people suggested a light granite, but none "spoke" to me and frankly i don't like the look of dark cabs with white or almost white granite. to me it looks commericial/sterile. i also did not do stainless/silver hardware. again, did not like the look and i really didn't want to see all this silver which in my opinion is what would catch your eye with dark cabs. i didn't want to really notice the hardware, just wanted it to blend. my advice, get what YOU love. you have to look at it everyday not the people who recommend "this or that". that's what we did and we don't regret it for a second. we still have a pretty big punch list, so i will post pics when all is done. best of luck!!

I just read a chat with a famous local interior designer on washingtonpost.com and "always white sinks and bath fixtures" was her rule. I like my white sink with a darkish tone counter.

This source below shows almost 100% white sinks with black counter tops.

I've got Virginia Mist granite with a white sink and cream cabinets. You can just barely see a spot of white sink in this picture.

I am one of those annoying matchy-matchy people...I like the metals to blend and the appliances to match and the toilet/sink/tub/shower pan to match...but that is just me. I am also gaga over retro matches, but I like that white idea...so easy to match if you need to replace one item out of a group. Just posting some pictures for you. Have fun with your bath reno!!! ;~]

I vote for white sinks, especially if your tub is white. Plus, there's nothing worse than dry toothpaste and water marks in a black sink :)

I've never seen a black sink in bathroom, but we have a Black Blanco Silgranit sink in our kitchen with Dark Verde Peacock granite and the black on black is beautiful It's the composite of that sink though makes upkeep super easy. I'm not so sure you'd have the same luck with a high gloss black porcelain sink though. I'd stick with a white or what ever matches the toilet.
