Anyone else not impressed with the Huron sunrise miscanthus?
Comments (5)Late summer or early fall is the typical bloom time for any Miscanthus and I see nothing to indicate Huron Sunrise has an earlier than usual bloom time. In my area, it is not unusual for Miscanthus to not start flowering until late September or early October or the flowerheads never developing fully....See MoreAnyone else bothered by the AHS October Newsletter?
Comments (5)I have waited a couple weeks for a reply from the editor of the AHS e-newsletter, and have not received the courtesy of a reply to explain this MAJOR oversight. I know that many (or all?) of these people are volunteers, but that doesn't change the responsibility for what they produce. I am glad I am no longer a member of the American Hosta Society. This is no way to uphold the integrity and importance of what once was once a very informative place to learn about Hostas, and insure their propagation. Sadly, -Babka...See Morepenstemon species - Anyone else grow these?
Comments (14)Peren.all - Both, they bloom at about the same time. I can't add any more grasses. I have Geraniums [Cranesbill?] but they are edgers really and I wanted something either a little taller or shorter. I was wondering what would bloom at the same time. Bluestone has a good search feature that allows you to search by bloom time, I might try that. Also, my 2nd consideration is how they look in the late summer fall with their aging seed tops and the foliage getting red. I'm already planning on putting them near the Pennisetums that I have 'Hamelin' and 'Desert Plains'. The 'Desert Plains has nice fall color with some orange in there. Not as large as I like, but the larger Pennisetum I had, I ripped out last fall. It was a seedling nightmare. Worse than I've had with any other plant. I don't remember the variety. I have a corner I'm developing with Lilies/Perovskia/Gaura and I just saw a photo of a combination of Perovskia with Verbena bonariensis that I loved. I'm thinking of adding that to the mix and not sure if I will have room to add Penstemon. Here is the Perovskia/Verbena combo - I had one Verbena volunteer that reseeded into one of my vacant vegetable beds this summer and it turned into a huge circle and was the last thing blooming this fall. So I can bring that into my front bed with those plants....See MoreJust brought home a Mexican Grass Tree, anyone else growing it?
Comments (0)Zone 8b Willamette Valley OR. Dasylirion quadrangulatum - I have potted it up from 1 gallon to 3 gallon pot. I'm keeping it outside this first winter, in my warmest and sunniest spot, but will try to move it under cover during heavy rain events, and will also protect if the temperature goes below 15F. If it looks good in spring I will plant in the ground....See Moresleevendog (5a NY 6aNYC NL CA)
