Bottom Freezer Refrigerators - French door or Single door?
Comments (7)Thanks, stacey! Good point about being able to open the doors all the way. We are thinking about getting a counter-depth frig, so I definitely want a 36-wide to make up for the loss in depth. Anyone out there with a 36-wide single door frig? (I suppose this would include top freezers too) Is the door too big and heavy? Too much strain on the hinge? As far as French door refrigerators go, I am also wondering about having your door in the way of your countertop landing area. We will have a pantry cabinet, then refrigerator, then countertop. I wonder if it will be awkward to have the french door in the way. I guess the same would be true with a side-by-side, but I have never had one of those either. I am just so used to opening the frig with my left arm, grabbing what I want with my right and putting it on the countertop to my right. Those with french door frigs, do you always open both doors? I dont know if I like the idea of having to use both arms to open the frig. It's not that I'm THAT lazy, but it just feels odd. Any further input would be greatly appreciated. Comments (23)I have a GE Profile French Door fridge that is 10 years old, paid almost $3k for it. I believe it was actually made by Samsung at the time and rebranded. I discovered this when I started getting water under the deli drawer and when I was looking up how to fix it online, discovered this was actually the same issue the almost identical Samsung was having. After watching some youtube videos, we fixed it ourselves since the tech who came out did a poor job. It has been fairly problem free other than that annoyance which started right after the one year warranty ended. If I could do it again I'd get a french door fridge with water in the door, but ice make in the freezer (do they even make that?). My daughter is obsessed with ice and so constantly using our ice maker and over the summer it all clumped up and then was dripping on my floor. We didn't have any issues with the ice maker until the 10 year mark so that's a good thing! I now have the ice maker disabled so all is fine and daughter is no longer crunching ice. Overall, the fridge is quiet and I love the interior layout. I just did a kitchen remodel and bought all new appliances, but decided to keep the fridge. I did not feel like getting another fridge with a new set of problems. At least with this one I know its issues....See MoreElectrolux French Door refrigerators with no door dispenser
Comments (0)Electrolux is about to release a new FD refrigerator with no in-door ice/water dispenser. It will come in 4 models -- 2 CD and SD. The differences are two have LED lighting and the Perfect Temp door just like the "Wave Touch". Since the controls are inside the doors on all 4 models, there is no "wave touch" model per se. I haven't been able to determine if the ice in the freezer is their "Perfect Ice'. Electrolux told me that the product is entering production and will be available this quarter; then they said by Dec 1. I'm struggling with whether I can wait that long or not... The new models are not yet on the Electrolux site, but AJMadison does have info on them, including pics. Beware that some of the specs they list are suspect, such as the same cubic feet as the model with the dispensers, yet they say the newer ones are 2" shallower. Also, some of the detailed specs are contradicted elsewhere on their site. But it's a start and probably mostly accurate. Here's a link to all of the Electrolux FD at ajmadison: http://www.ajmadison.com/b.php?Ntt=electrolux+french+door&x=0amp;y=0amp;Nty=1 You can order the new models at some dealers, but Lowes doesn't yet have them in their system. They think that may change this week. FWIW, I wrote a few months ago about ruling out the Electrolux FD because of the open-wire freezer doors. I have re-evaluated that, and I really like the Perfect Temp drawer and the 3-shelf freezer (Wave-Touch models). But the final swaying point was the stainless sides. AFAIK, Electrolux is the only manufacturer that "wraps" a standard depth FD in stainless. Due to my configuration, I can't use a CD box. Comments (25)This was also my concern. Plus I want a counterdepth refrigerator. There aren't many single door ones available, but I am waiting for the new KA V series single door counter depth, freezer door on the bottom to be out. Should be soon. I have talked to KA several times about it. Anyway the V series is replacing their T series and I saw the same model in the French door type and liked the freezer drawer layout and studiness better. I have a friend who hated her french door LG and had door gasket problems that reocurred so much that the the store took it back and she now has the single door freezer on the bottom. She likes that arrangement much better for the same reasons already mentioned--only open 1 door when putting something away. I just imagine going to it with a large pan that I can barely hold in one hand and then needing 2 arms to prop open the 2 french doors. I do prefer their look, but I'm in and out of the fridge too often to give up the convenience of 1 door. Anyone have the V series French Door by Kitchenaid?...See Morewear_your_baby
