Toto drake - to buy or not to buy

People, i was totally sold on Toto Drake. My contractor told me it was the best, the store told me it was the best, and i was poised to purchase two of those puppies online.

Then i came here and read your reviews, and oh my god, i am having doubts....

Lots of people seem to be complaining that Toto does not do a good job of cleaning off the washbowl, leaving behind ..ahem..ahem... skid marks and requiring the brush use on a regular basis.

With kids in the house ( 10 and 15 years old) i clearly do not need that kind of a toilet then.

Or do i?

Please tell me - are you pleased with your Drake?

huh? i've read great reviews. plus you can get a sanigloss finish on the drake. what's the problem? i'm buying seven totos; four of them are drakes.

i am also buying two drakes.......i thought it was the dual flush one that leaves behind "marks"............???

Actually most if not all elongated toilet seats are standardized to fit any elongated toilet. If you have a conventional round bowl it will take the standard round style seat. If you are unsure, Toto makes a full line of seats other than the one that comes on the drake. From what Ive seen online the common complaint about the Drake seat is that it is thin and contemporary and has a tendency to make you feel as if you are sliding backwards when seated on it. We have 2 Toto Ultramax styled toilets and the original seats were very different from the one on a Drake. I just recently replaced one with a Toto Washlet and its great.

I looked online at them last night after reading the other thread and the only one I found that was ada with sanagloss was the Drake. I wanted a skirted one but didn't find one w/sanagloss tho. and i think about 400.00 would be my limit on a toilet - lol! oh, i also would need the sedona beige color. that might have limited me too. anyone find the 1.28 gpf a problem? I did check the Terry Love site.

We have the Toto Ultimate and the Toto Aquia. The Ultimate is a much better toilet than the Aquia, although I do love that one-piece skirt, LOL. You should check out the CR test results. Our plumber service (who we have on retainer, after 3 successive TP clogs on two sewer lines), highly recommend the American Std Champion. Which Drake is everyone referring to? The standard Drake using 1.6 gallons that is #1 selling toilet on Amazon Toto CST744SL #01 or the Drake II which is rimless and has the double cyclone technology, making it a closer match to the Carlyle II which has the Tornado technology and is rimless (and skirted). There is also a Eco Drake that is similar to the standard Drake but uses 1.28 gallons. We are considering the standard 1.6 gallon Drake for our secondary bathrooms because of its low price and yet excellent flushing. Saving water is not a priority for those bathrooms that don't get used a lot anyways. We are considering the Toto Ultramax II 1.28 - which is the same as the Carlyle II 1.28 but without the skirt. I like the idea of the skirt but it didn't appear that the Carlyle's skirt was as simple as needed to be easy to clean and thus not worth the extra $185. Also, as far as Toto colors, the cotton white is the bright white and Colonial white is the antique white.

Bought the toto promenade, with sanagloss- love love love love it.
No cleaning problems, quick efficient flush, love it.

I have 3 Drakes in my house, installing them in 2005, so have lived with them for 4 years, and have had zero problems with them. They flush thoroughly every time, with no remaining deposits. I would not hesitate to purchase the Drakes again.

We have 2 drakes. Wouldn't hesitate to buy them again. They have a powerful flush and fill fast.
Also, there are 2 flushes, a long and a short. If you hold the handle down and keep it down during the flush, it will do the long flush which uses more water...can't remember how many gallons.:)

There are specs and info on what they rate the #1 toilet. At the time we got ours, the Drake was listed as #1. Now it says the Toto Ultramax with the G flush. There is a link on the webpage with the info.

Drake does have G-Max. We have one in Sanagloss w/ zero problems (except for one self-induced baby wipe incident).

The Ultimate in the other bath clogs if I look at it wrong. But maybe I just use too much TP. I've thought about trading out the mechanism for a G-Max but haven't ponied up.

I don't know if it's too late to chime in here. I bought a Toto Drake last week. I bought the eco one that uses only 1.6 gallons. I have had no problems. I am amazed at the powerful flush using so little water. No ahem left behind.. so far. I've only had it a few days, but so far I am thrilled with it. The toilets in the house were orignal (I'm the second owner) and were very ineffienct, to say the least. i would have loved sanigloss, but I couldn't afford the extra cost.
