Who is responsible for what

The buyer decides to do their own installation. They completely do it wrong and call for service. Service says it is improperly installed and the customer would have to pay to have it properly installed and also pay for the service call do to the fact their is no product failure. Customer now decides to bad mouth the product on line claiming he was denied service. Of course the customer does not reveal what he did, just that he was denied service, people are reading his claims and of course because he is the consumer all feel he has been unjustly treated and bad mouth the manufacturer. Where is the selling dealers responsibility in all of this and if the manufacturer disputes the customers claim, how many would believe him?
