How often do you clean the outside of your windows?
Comments (10)I usually do a full window clean in the spring. I clean the outside, inside, screens and all the inside tracks and such. I use a special window "wooly" and squeegee with a rubber blade (this is important not plastic). Mine are similar to these from Lee Valley linked. I start by removing the screens - put them aside to be cleaned. I have a bucket ready to wash the glass. 1 capful dishwashing liquid & 1/2 cup of vinegar in a 1/2 bucket of water (approx 1 gal). I vacuum all the inside tracks (where the screens go) and then clean them all with a q tip. Spiders get in there and it's kinda' gross. I have casement windows so screens mount inside. I dip my wooly washer in the solution and scrub the window. Work the edges and corners well. For inside the window, I dip the wooly washer and then wring it out and clean the same. I place a towel on the floor inside to catch any stray water. After you've scrubbed the window clean - place the squeegee in the top left corner. Pull down applying light pressure. I wipe the blade after each pass. Keep moving across the window overlapping approx. 1" onto already cleaned glass. You can squeegee top to bottom or left to right - whichever works better for you. I wash my screen with mild detergent (I use Shaklee Basic H2 but I'm sure you could use a small amount of dish soap). I also add a little vinegar. Rinse them off good and allow to dry. I either rinse outside with the hose or in my walk in shower with the hand held shower head. That's my routine. I'd like to clean them in the Fall too but for now, once a year is what I do. Nothing nicer than clean windows :) Here is a link that might be useful: window washing tools...See MoreHow often do you clean your tea kettles and do they mildew?
Comments (7)I don't have a tea kettle but I would assume that if you had a tea kettle with just a little bit of water sitting on the stove when not in use, bacteria, dust and other items present in the air will fall in the kettle and can create a slime factory over time if not cleaned. I personally use an electric tea kettle (British upbringing) and now graduated to a Japanese Airpot. I love my airpot. When I used an electric kettle, I never left water in it and washed it out weekly. I have filtered water and never had a problem with the tea kettles. I clean my airpot out weekly when I have no water left in it. Good luck!...See Morehow often do you need to have your ducts cleaned?

Comments (11)Super Soft - NYC soft water. Whirlpool. A better explanation. On your laundry tub, where the perforated holes are - that is where most of the water sits during a wash cycle. If you start looking past that, where the wall of that inner tub starts to form leading all the way to the edge of it - that is the area where you will get water just strictly by nature of agitation and overspray, but not as much as it doesn't really *sit in water* during a wash cycle, Too many variables, as different makes have different tub designs, etc. For me, that is the scum ring - but it's also due to how my wash cycles are.. I do suspect that while most people are looking at their gasket, how many of ya'll go to great lenghts to check out the cavity I'm referring to.... I'm a OCD clean freak deep down. I have a commercial grade steam cleaner that not only produces steam but allows me to shoot boiling water through the nozzle - I will put the nozzle in that tight cavity and steam clean/send high pressure boiling water through that cavity (after seeing how this a problem prone area) around the entire perimeter of that area. While this cleans the area , nothing beats a sanitize cycle with the overloaded water dosage to really clean it....See Morelizbeth-gardener
