X- Post. How often do you clean your Vent-a-Hood?
Comments (2)We grill under the hood quite a bit so the cleaning is a bit more often, about once a month I'd say. Yeah it's hard to put off the fun sometimes. But a couple of things I've picked up on. 409 works great. Remove the sheild under the blower housing and spray some into the squirrel cage; jog the motor, spray generously, turn off motor. The idea being to coat the wheels but not have the 409 just fly off.Be carefull though because it may drip onto the cooktop. I put some newspaper down first. Let it sit, maybe repeat. Then remove the housing but again be carefull as the 409 is sitting on the bottom now. Wipe it out with paper towels or into the dishwasher if you like. Remove the wheels if gunked up to badly and if your lucky they will clean off real nice with HOT water spray. I don't know why but my wheels used to be a PIA to clean but now they are easy. I use the 409 on the inside of the hood to. The stuff works good for me. Oh, a whole mess of paper towels. It's a bit of a proceedure that may not be for you but with repeated applications seems to go faster. I like my stuff clean, don't like the smell of grease in there, and expect some effort will be needed. Being double jointed seems to mke it all easier under the hood..)...See MoreHow often do you clean the outside of your house?
Comments (8)Yes, actually you're supposed to. At least that's what my house painter said when we had the whole house repainted after a remodel 4 years ago. He recommended hosing or using a power washer on soft setting once a year to get all of the accumulated dust and dirt off the painted siding. We live in the Pacific NW so with all of the wet winter storms and wind the outside does get battered months on end. I think what we fail to see on top of the paint or vinyl is the same dirt that's on your windows. We all clean our windows periodically, you can imagine that stuff building up over 10 years on the outside of the house!...See MoreHow often do you ~clean~ or check your soap SCRUM line
Comments (11)Super Soft - NYC soft water. Whirlpool. A better explanation. On your laundry tub, where the perforated holes are - that is where most of the water sits during a wash cycle. If you start looking past that, where the wall of that inner tub starts to form leading all the way to the edge of it - that is the area where you will get water just strictly by nature of agitation and overspray, but not as much as it doesn't really *sit in water* during a wash cycle, Too many variables, as different makes have different tub designs, etc. For me, that is the scum ring - but it's also due to how my wash cycles are.. I do suspect that while most people are looking at their gasket, how many of ya'll go to great lenghts to check out the cavity I'm referring to.... I'm a OCD clean freak deep down. I have a commercial grade steam cleaner that not only produces steam but allows me to shoot boiling water through the nozzle - I will put the nozzle in that tight cavity and steam clean/send high pressure boiling water through that cavity (after seeing how this a problem prone area) around the entire perimeter of that area. While this cleans the area , nothing beats a sanitize cycle with the overloaded water dosage to really clean it....See MoreHow often do you clean your vent hood?
Comments (14)We're not using our hood yet, but I certainly wasn't planning to clean it after every use. Yikes. I'm glad you asked this question sayde because I guess I'd been thinking a couple times/year (maybe seasonally?) but it looks like I'd better prepare myself for much more! Incidentally, everywhere we went, appliance places all touted the vent a hood (salesperson incentives perhaps...?) but I did not like the idea that I'd have to use a screwdriver to take it apart for cleaning. (I also read a thread about that on appliance forum a while back, grumbling about having to get up on a step stood to reach the back screw.) For anyone out selecting their appliances now, baffles that you just push on a corner to set it on angle and pull out seem much easier to me. This is the style of the Precision and Wolf hoods that we saw-probably lots of other manufacturers too- just not the ventahood. I never thought much about how often I'd need to clean the hood, but I did know I wanted it to be as easy as possible ;)...See Moretlloyd
