Thanks, pharaoh, but I should have mentioned it's a vessel with no overflow.

In the meantime, the seller told me that I could go with 1 3/4"....I have a hard time believing that's going to fit into a 1 1/4" drain hole!

As far as I know, there is only one standard size bath drain. Sometimes these are referred to as 1 1/2", sometimes 1 3/4", etc. The confusion is sometimes due to the escutcion size rather than the size of the hole.

I'm assuming the seller of the sink also sells drains? If not, then you simply need to go to a hardware store, pick out a drain you want and measure the size of the part that will be going through the hole in the bottom of the sink. I suspect that any size "standard" bath drain - whether vessel style of not - will work with your sink.

One other comment, I don't believe there is a "pop up" style drain that will work for a vessel sink. There is an "umbrella" style that you manually push down once to close, and again to open. A "pop-up" style generally means that there is a mechanism behind the drain that will open and close the drain from your faucet. ...however, this is always for a sink that has an overflow from my experience.

I obviously don't know plumbing lingo...what I do want is an umbrella style drain. My sink is an hour away at the granite fabricators shop and what I read on the description that came with it is that it has a "standard" 1 1/4" hole for the drain. So right now I am unable to just measure it and see if that's the true measurement. The seller does not sell drains, unfortunately!

don't have much to add, unfortunately, but i think flyinghigh was suggesting that you measure the *drain* that you would like to use to see if the diameter would actually fit into the hole your sink is supposed to come with. I think flyinghigh was saying sometimes actual drains (not the holes in the sinks) are marked as being certain sizes based on other things than the actual part you are worried about.

Sorry for my confusing email. Lisa clarified my post quite nicely above.

Basically, the gist of all this is that you shouldn't have much of a problem with a standard size bath drain even though the sizes don't say exactly the same thing - a bath drain is a bath drain...

I would just pick up an umbrella style drain designed for a vessel style bath sink (i.e. a drain meant for a bath sink with no overflow) and it should fit fine. You can buy these easily online or find them at most plumbing/hardware stores.

I have a pop up drain in my vessel (onyx) sink....I had to special order it through a high end plumbing store. It has a little push button in the middle that makes it pop up or down. (that button goes up or down, the main portion does not move) It's made by Decolav. My hole is 1 1/4".

And just so you don't think you're an idiot and it's that easy...This was the fifth very freaking expensive drain I purchased in my search for a proper drain :)
