Like it? Bathrm w/LED backlight, large tile, metal trim, shower niche
Comments (5)Hi Monica, Thanks for your feedback. Right, recirc hot water results in instant hot water. There are two ways to do it: (1) add a crossover device to the furthest fixture or (2) run a return line from the furthest device back to a pump at the water heater. I had the walls open, so I did #2 (pump: Grundfos). Though it saves on water, the cost of equipment and installation and additional energy usage makes the main benefit convenience rather than cost savings. I would not tile without a laser -- they are not expensive and I like perfection. I use the Craftsman 2-beam, self-leveling laser level, $85 at Sears. For lasering walls, I clamp the laser base to a ZipWall pole and move the laser up and down the pole, as needed -- a good enough system for occasional use. For large format tile, be sure your surface is absolutely f-l-a-t. Good luck with your project!...See MoreSchluter choice: metal trim or white PVC Schluter for our tile?
Comments (43)I've been going back and forth on this same topic for the white ceramic subway tile I'll be installing as a backsplash in my kitchen. I'm using a 2"x4" mosaic. The problem is they don't make matching bullnose pieces. I can get them in bigger sizes and try and cut them down with a wet saw, but they're thicker than the mosaic (1/4" vs. 5/16"). I'll have some areas where the edge of the tile is open (i.e. doesn't terminate into a wall or cabinet). For those edges, I really just want a matching 2"x4" bullnose piece with the bullnose on the short edge. In the upper corner, I want a 2"x4" bullnose piece with a bullnose on both the short and long edges. For the top row where it's open, I want 2"x4" bullnose pieces with the bullnose on the long edge. I looked at the Schluter, but I really didn't like it. I'm going for a more rustic look, and I think it has more of a modern look. The solution I finally found was a place down in Cincinnati where you send them pieces of your field tile and they make them into bullnose pieces to your specification with a kiln fired finish. That way everything matches my field tile. It's costing me about $4 per bullnose tile, but it's giving me exactly the look I want. I think they have a minimum order amount of $50....See MoreSHOULD i mix schluter trim edges.
Comments (3)I choose schluter trim because it is almost invisible IMO not a design element but rather the opposite. I think like so many people you are over thinking and over doing what you like. Simple is always best....See MoreFinishing white subway tile - trim vs schluter
Comments (19)why not just do the bullnose? And perhaps go w/a 4x12 instead of a 3x6. here's my shower. I used a 4x12 with bullnose on both the vertical, for outside edges, and horizontal, for the top row the bullnose option is one of the cleanest looks you'll get the schluter I did for the accent and the niche (I chose black) close up of that same 4x12 tile but in a diff layout. (this is my neighbors shower) we opted for a stacked pattern layout. slightly more modern looking this one got the Schluter edging on the outside In this one, the tile didn't come w/a bullnose edge. we went w/the pencil liner. again, a larger tile (either a 3x12 or 4x12) and a stacked layout does this give you a better of idea of what look you like?...See Moredekeoboe
