I've read that here, too, about KA. All I know is that I've had KA Architect Series double convection wall ovens for 11 years, use the self-cleaning on both often, and have never had a problem. Love them.

I have a KA double convection wall oven KEBS208. I was trying to hold off on self-cleaning it because of the problems I read about but I finally broke down and cleaned it last night. It looks so nice again with that pretty blue color (although the racks remain spattered)and I just used the oven this afternoon on 2 different settings and different temps. It worked fine - what a relief. Actually my friend with the same oven cleaned hers first with no problem so that's the reason I decided to clean mine. I think you should feel safe getting the KA - no need to worry about the self cleaning problem, although if you get it make sure to clean it within the warranty period! I love my KA oven, we use it often for pizzas at 500 degrees and use it at regular temps also. I pretty much only use the convection oven feature (used regular bake this afternoon for cheesecake, not convection) and broil. I'm not picky when it comes to an oven but I really like this one. Every GE product we've had in our house (10 years) has been replaced due to some issue it had. We are in the process of building a new home and the only request from DH was 'No GE'...LOL! I've only had good experience with KA, so it wouldn't even be a question for me :)

I have also have the KA KEBS208SSS and have no issues. I do not use the self-clean based on issues others have had, but I never really used it on my prior GE Profile unit either. I keep it like new with baking soda and vinegar.

Do I bake all the time, no, but it does get used about 3 days a week for evening meals. I love the convection as I can cook faster and at a lower temperature.

The components used to "fail-safe" the KitchenAid oven and other brands weaken a little each time the self-clean is used. Presumably under normal conditions these safety items should last at least ten years. Immediate failure is at the other end of the scale for a reason but who knows why?

Some people seem determined to miss the point. The fact that a correctly made item was purchased and works well is to be expected. The problem starts when a manufacturer blows off customers having obvious problems and chooses to brazen it out until the next model change and then quietly fixes the fault.

There are well known examples of other faulty products (such as autos, TVs) out there whose makers also followed the same playbook. Are those all companies that deserve your business once everything smooths out?

I'm sorry, but neither? I do not respect the way KA handled this issue and wouldn't consider their ovens. I did get a Monogram ZET2, and it didn't live up to its claims or what I felt an oven in that price range should offer. I have written a lot about it, so won't do it again, but am linking a previous thread in which I explained all of the problems.

If you're not an avid baker, it might not be as big a deal...but if you're spending that kind of money, you might as well get something better.

While the KA gets good reviews from the responders to this thread, Rhome410 has me thinking about other options as well. I don't think my cooking style justifies (nor does my budget allow) the Wolf option, I will definitely look at the Elux and others that are priced in the KA/GE Mono range.
