Fine scratches on Kohler sink
Comments (12)Well, I called the plumber and order the set of grids for the bottom of the sink. While I'm not completely freaked out that it's already showing wear, I would like it to look nice for a while, at least! :) So hopefully the grids will do the trick. I just wish I knew if I caused them (so I'd know what I did wrong) or whether the cleaning crew or workers did it. Wisrose-so far I love the black-n-tan. I had SS before (ugly and dirty looking all the time from hard water and scratches) and although I've only been using it for about 1 1/2 weeks, it seems like not much shows on it. I'm not going to lie and say you can't see water spots, but we have very hard water and water shows everywhere. Kohler recommends just using Windex , 409 or something similar to clean up, so I will discontinue with the brush and just wipe clean with Windex when I'm through with dishes. You do almost HAVE to wipe it down with some glass cleaner to make it shiny after use. Never thought I'd bother with all the little details, but I actually don't mind!! And for what it's worth, I LOVE the smart divide. All my huge pots sit right down in the bottom for filling and cleaning. (HMMMM....maybe that's where the scratches came from! DUH!) a href="http://s179.photobucket.com/albums/w312/superchick_album/?action=view&current=000_0151.jpg" target="_blank">...See Morelargest undermount SS single bowl sink?
Comments (14)Yes, but at over $6000, way out of my league! I found a 36" SS single bowl sink from Ariel sinks. Here are my favorites: Ruvati- RVH 8300 one large bowl 32x19 decent price. Ticor TR 4100 or TR 4000. both good prices. Then I just found and fell in love with....a triple bowl. Which I cannot find anywhere! Ticor 1900 If I could find the TR1900 I think I would stop wanting a single bowl. Seems there are warehousing problems...whatever that means. Cannot get one until mid April...I translated that to actually mean early summer. All of them have the ledges and accessories. I am thinking about putting either the TR4100 or 4000 in my laundry room to wash our small dog in. Just can't decide whether the big sink or the smaller sink with drainboard would be best. I don't wash a lot by hand so it is mostly for the dog. I can set my dog on the drainboard and soap her up. I have about 36" for a cabinet. Wishing for a TR1900.....Peke...See MoreUndermounting sinks
Comments (15)franklin_2010 it Is possible to undermount any sink. But if you need to ask then it is possible that you may not be able to do it yourself. Finding a handyman who will do it may not be easy, either. Some people don't like doing more than the minimum amount of effort. If the rim isn't flat, it is more trouble than undermounting one with a flat rim. However, it can be done. It can easily be done if you understand that a little wood of the right shape goes on top of the bracket under the counter. Whether it's that complicated, or whether it's more simple, the bracket support goes into the wood cabinets sides. There are brackets that can be bought. Perhaps someone here has kept track of the name of these brackets, or the web site. These brackets are designed for undermounting sinks. They are to be screwed into the cabinet sides. Once you see a picture you get the picture. Do not get anyone to drill the granite from underneath. This is something which live_wire_oak already knows. (I've read most threads here in the last two years). The comment from live_wire_oak on Sun, Aug 8, 10 at 9:59 is all wrong. Snoonyb corrected it. franklin_2010 I'm sorry you only got live_wire_oak commenting and acting as though he or she didn't understand anything other than what they have seen before, and being sarcastic negative and artificially dumb along the way too. I've seen this before, from live_wire_oak. The negative spirit, the artifice, the sarcasm. So, on behalf of the forum participants who are open minded and willing to share, I apologize for this other person. Since I'm the one who sent you to the kitchen forum, I apologize. As for live_wire_oak, it's beginning to sound a lot like you are someone knowledgeable who is negative dismissive and disrespectful very often. It's happened to many of my postings. Perhaps it only skirts the rules of respect that the forum demands of all participants, but I find it unacceptable. -- From terrylove.com : "Amer. Std, and Kohler, as well as some generics, make undermount bracket kits. These take the form of bars supported by the cabinet sides, or front-back. They and the sink are installed before the granite. Then after the countertop is on, adjuster screws snug the sink up to the countertop ( with a bead of caulk of course.) Very easy to do, sink is extremely secure, and the sink can be removed if necessary in the future without disturbing the top." from a Master Plumber, forum moderator, who has posted more than 6000 times from a Master Plumber, forum moderator, who has posted more than 15000 times: "The largest part of the price is the cost of the sink, and for that you have almost unlimited possibilities. I mount the sink into the cabinets with the rim level with the bottom of the granite. The mount can either be metal saddles with adjustment bolts to raise and hold the sink, or a wooden framework attached to the cabinets. Set the sink onto the supports, apply the necessary sealant, and then put the granite top over it. The sink can be hooked up as soon as the granite guys leave." these two comments were found in http://www.terrylove.com/forums/showthread.php?4406-undermount-kitchen-sink which I foudn by typing "undermount" into the site's search field : http://www.terrylove.com/forums/showthread.php?4406-undermount-kitchen-sink&highlight=undermount In that thread someone provided links to the company that makes brackets. Go and see. At that site, many experienced plumbers and renovators have commented that ANY sink can be undermounted. One of them is the 15000 post Master Plumber, who has more than 50 years experience. Comments (39)Nope, no complaints about drain placement---and I say that as someone who actually did think we wanted a rear drain when I started looking at sinks. (The only options with rear drains didn't work out for other reasons.) The stream of our faucet hits just about dead even in the center of the drain, but that's 100% coincidental---both the sink placement and the wall-mount faucet placement were dictated by established elements (sink centered on two windows in room, placement of plumbing pre-existing and not possible to move b/c of studs). Our faucet does swivel, though (as do most I think?) and can easily reach the dish tub and strainer we often put in the sink on one side or the other without impeding the drain. The Kohler Cape Dory cutting board is indeed beveled to hug the shape of the sink. My issue with it is not the board itself (beautiful quality and made in USA which was a pleasant surprise, and where I live there's no way you could get one for any less by having it custom made---the Kohler one was only $35 or so) but the fact that it sits lower than the counter surface, which isn't super comfortable to cut on ergonomically. However, I think (?) the sink can be either undermounted or self-rimming, so that may explain why. Regardless, I wouldn't bother with this accessory....See Moremarybeth1
