I like your counter and all your tiles together and I think the mirror could work. First of all do you need a medicine cabinet? I didn't put ones in and then my husband and son said after it was too late they needed them. Thanks guys! I had mirrored the wall above the vanities because I wanted a streamline look and we had double sinks in both baths. I had room for cabinets in other areas so I purchased them from Restoration Hardware. If you go that route ask my advice? Anyway also in slight fairness to the males one cabinet had to be abandoned due to the cabinet company(Bertch) So I guess my main ? is do you want a medicine cabinet because you have achieved a particular look to your credit and ones that are not built in have a limited selection in my experience.

I wish there was a longer shot of the vanity area. From the pics you show, I do feel like that mirror might not work as well as something else. I think that the color might not be so bad if the frame were thinner... but from the pics you show, that heavy, dark frame seems just SO much heavier and darker than everything else... it seems like it will overwhelm all else. The vanity is beautiful and personally I think I'd rather have the myrtle wood be the star... and that big fat heavy mirror frame seems like it's trying to steal all the attention right now.

That said, it can probably be made to work, by balancing with other dark/heavy accessories. But the rest of the room seems to have a lighter, more airy and cheerful vibe going on, maybe a lighter mirror frame might be better. I'll also add that we have a big framed mirror over our master vanity, and as much as I love the deep storage drawers in the vanity, they're not quite as convenient as medicine cabinets. I sure like the look of a big mirror though!

We made our frame from fairly thin strips of mahogany (which is what our vanity top is) and it was easy to do. I'm pretty sure you could have a carpenter make a narrower frame for you out of a lighter wood, and buy a mirror for it, for not much more than the PB mirror.

I don't think it works. It's so dark compared to all the other light floors, tile, cabinets, counters, it draws way too much focus for my taste.

I would want something lighter, less frame maybe or white framed.

I like the idea above of making a matching (or two matching) myrtle framed mirrors. If you use stock mirrors from a big box store (Lowes and HD each have a good variety of instock frameless mirrors) then it should be a lot cheaper actually than a PB one.

Thanks for all the input. Everyone has made excellent points here. We decided to not use medicine cabinets because at first the room didn't have any natural light and we wanted as much mirror as possible to help reflect as much light as possible. We've since added a skylight, but we still like the idea of a lot of mirror to make the space look bigger, brighter and more open. Not pictured here is a linen tower that will have drawers and sit on top of the counter against the wall, so this will be used for storage instead of medicine cabinets (we're pretty light users of bathroom products). We thought about having a frame built out of the remaining myrtle, but there actually isn't enough left over and I don't want to buy another piece to frame a mirror. We've decided to live with this mirror for now and finish the project with it. We're going to look for some other darker wood accents to help carry the tone though the room and I may add a coat or 2 of dark tung oil to the vanity top to darken it. If we don't like it once the room is finished we'll look into something else at that point.

Sounds like a good idea for now and maybe you'll find it will be the right choice but if not you can do something else without alot of trouble. When shopping for medicine cabinets I found I either couldn't stand the look and or it was very expensive. I would like my next one to not exceed $500 and be a built in yet have some interesting appeal. I wish someone would give my post some advice. Anyway enjoy your new bathroom. I hope it gives you the same pleasure I have received from my recently renovated one.

paige16 - when we looked at medicine cabinets I was shocked at the prices too. We can't do built ins because of the plumbing stack so if we switch to medicine cabinets they will be the boxy type that stick out. Hopefully this mirror works.

Maybe its too matchy-matchy, but I would use a white mrror to match the cabinets and highlight that beautiful wood.
