While it's true that A&C is intrinsically a structural style, the OP likes a number of different styles and there are definitely things to do to make the room look and feel more turn-of-the century or Arts and Crafts. It would be helpful to see photos of the actual room, but here are some ideas that would make a big difference: Minimize gew-gaws (purely decorative dust-collecting objects). Choose objects for display that also serve a function. Think pitchers, candlesticks, lamps, mirrors, needlework. Eschew the curvaceous and embrace the rectilinear. Your big furnishings are already in place, but in selecting other objects, look for straight beefy lines, preferably real wood (of any species) pr metal, always with a matte finish. Think picture frames, mirrors, light fixtures. Your furniture color is fine. Look for Helen Foster's stencils online and choose a stencil pattern you like. Make one of the stencil colors blue to tie in the furniture. Stencil around the living rom at a height that seems right, but definitely closer to the ceiling than the midline. Ignore your w-to-w carpeting and use throw rugs on top. Choose any Orientals or look at William Morris designs for great patterns. O-stock has an extraordinary selection of well-priced rugs. Window coverings! Keep them as simple as possible. Muslin, cotton, like that. Stencil them as well if you want more pattern. Have fun!

Why not do GG yourself on that window? You can begin by practicing on some clings, and if you like it you can stick the clings to the window and build your whole window from there. It's very gratifying, and that way you don't have to worry about finding the right size and color. You can make it in colors that pick up on other decor in the room. Why not go check out their kits? You'll save a lot of money. But I guess if you have $ you can hire someone to custom make you just the perfect real stained glass window for that space. I love stained glass windows. I think they're just perfect for bathrooms, too, where you don't necessarily want the extra bulk of curtains, or the extra laundry, and where we usually want all the light we can get into the small space. Another reason I didn't look into real stained glass is that my window is a sliding thermal window. I'm sure it would have been very expensive to get stained glass that would slide like that. I thought about hanging a stained glass piece in front of the window, but then how would I open the window? So this was the perfect answer for my situation. If you look carefully at the pic of my bathroom window you'll see that it's a slider, and that one pane is larger than the other. So I worried about that, about how it would look to have the border bigger on one than on the other. I knew I could bypass all that if I did an abstract design where both windows were different from one another. But I loved this design so I went for it. I think it looks okay that the borders are uneven. I think that the window is pretty enough that people just don't notice or care about that? If yours is a slider, I think this could be the solution for you, especially if it's double-paned (I think they have some kind of gas between the two layers?). The clings are "stick on designs." They are easy and fun to make. Just find a design you like on the web. Print it out. I put a piece of glass from a frame I wasn't using on my table to protect it. Then I taped the design I printed out to the glass. Then I put the cling down on that. It's a soft sheet of clear vinyl. Then I traced the outline with the butterflies liquid leading. It comes out pretty smooth and easy so this wasn't hard -- just like in the lady's video. I let that dry then filled in the color, also with her paints. You can do a few for fun. If you like what you did, stick it on that bathroom window and build the rest of the window around it if you want to make privacy glass. Remember that with real stained glass windows they don't cut really huge elaborate pieces. They break up into smaller, more manageable pieces of glass. You can buy stained glass pattern books, or maybe your library has some. So why not try to do it yourself? You'll have fun, and imagine your pride when you get your window done and can say you made it yourself? You're welcome -- and thanks for letting me know I inspired you. I would say the cabinets in the scullery are original and doubt there was an icebox. Also, don't think the window is original and no there is no door. It is quite cramped in there. But over the years something was done to that area as you can see the 1960s molding they put around the window and the opening. Well you guys have given me something to think about for sure. I was going to gut the left side so that I could put 30" cabinets on the right with a dishwasher, leaving the sink and the top cabinets on the right. In doing so we would be ruining the scullery by making it bigger making it part of the new kitchen??? Gosh I hate to ruin it. Regardless the bottom cabinets need to be replaced; they stink and are kinda soft they could be gumwood. The uppers appear to be some other kind of wood. Have a serious small budget however since we don't live in Buffalo - this is a second home. But there's no hurry. I will see if the Amish people can build some simple 24" cabinets to replace the bottoms. Maybe there's a way to get 24" cabinets at a reasonable cost? BTW the bigger room adjacent where we are going to put the appliances has so many window and door openings that it quite challenging to get many cabinets. A few around the stove and an island is about all we can do with it. I will post more pics and dimensions once we get back up there. Luckily for us, only the kitchen and bathroom require major work, the other rooms have been lived in quite lightly over the years. Amazing.

Here's a couple more pictures. First is of the cabinet above the fridge. We made it tray storage on the top because we use a lot of trays to dine outside in the summer. I have a flip up panel below the tray storage area that I use to keep my wok and a few other things. This is sort of a dummy panel in case I ever get a taller fridge. The pantry cabinet is in the hallway between my kitchen & dining room. I used a narrow Ikea cabinet and then customized the remaining space to hold the Swiffer, brooms etc. In order to get this to work we had to knock the walls in this tiny space. It was a ton of work just to gain 4" but the pantry area now functions beautifully. A few have asked by cabinet color...it's a custom lacquer match to my the trim color in the rest of my house. The trim color was custom mix I did many years ago. It took several tries to get the lacquer to match but it was worth it. My window trim is painted with the oil trim paint and it matches my cabinet perfectly. newbie--I am not actually in Chicagoland...I'm in north central Indiana so I'm not sure it would help. The flooring integrated perfectly..you can't tell at all. We had the dining room refinished so the colors match. Theanimala--yes your pulls were my inspiration. Thank you so much!
