This one is totally Kathleen's fault ;^D

I was shopping in town the other day, looking for white dressy plates for my White on White table and came across these beauties on clearance at Marshalls. Emily and her girlfriends are off playing tennis today and DS is back at grad school, meeting with his thesis committee, so I have a few hours (finally!) to play with all my new stuff. I'll try to remember where I've stashed it all and set up a few tables to show you.

I must have been in a summer morning mood, because I thought these would be perfect for a quiet little Summer's morning breakfast. My usual weekday breakfast is a scone, hot tea, yogurt (the covered white bowl), juice and a piece of fruit. I didn't care for my white linen or lace tablecloths with these dishes. I wanted to keep it simple and sweet.

White plates are from Roscher, their "Juliet" collection. I got just four of these for $2 each.

The pale blue (the color is soft and luscious IRL) are also from Roscher, their "Enchanted Lines" collection. I bought four @ 2.99 each.

I found the pale blue quilted placemats at TJ Maxx after Easter, on sale for $2 each. I did finally buy some new flatware. White ones. Got them at TM last month, hid them in the pantry and forgot all about them until yesterday! My sweet little painted iron bird has been sitting on my MBR foyer chest for a many years now. I found him at this cute little store in Albuquerque, The Red Geranium. Love him!

I've had the "wicker" grape pitcher for many years now. I found it at an antique & consignment shop. It's not an antique, but I do love to use it on my Summer tables whenever I have the chance.

I was gifted with the antique syrup pitcher & plate from a dear girlfriend of mine, from her own (major) antique collection. Apparently it's very old and valuable. I can't remember the details, but it's hand-painted, made by "Tillowitz", with "R&S" above it. It's signed by a "J. Glover". It makes me a nervous wreck to use it, so it usually sits safely in my dining room hutch. It's looking more gray in this pic, but it's really white with a soft blue and I sometimes use it for a creamer, although Fran tells me it's really for syrup.

My tea cup & saucer are also hand-painted and signed "Phippen". I have no idea how old they are. I bought them at a little antique & gift shop in Michigan where we vacation every year. I just like them.

The silk flower arrangement usually sits on a table in our MBR, by the reading area. I've had it for years now and never tire of it. I am such a Cottage person at heart!

Your table looks very serene. I agree with your decision to not use the fancy linens, it looks perfect as it is. Your syrup pitcher looks the style of some plates that my grandmother painted (I think she used readymade patterns or plates; she wasn't an artist). It is very sweet and looks perfect with your setting. You're so talented to put so many different styles together and make them look so coordinated! And I love your new plates (such a price) --I am a sucker for relief designs.

What pretty, delicate pieces. I too love your new plates and have to agree, what a great buy. I love that sweet little bird and your lovely painted antique pitcher..take care of it.
You're right in keeping the look simple...everything looks just lovely on its own. Very nice choices.

Hey Jeanne...I can see where ...'my cupboard overflow-th' ! You got quite a nice haul.. Those herons are unusual and I can see them looking great either on your bookshelf or in a TS. You can always use candlesticks and the ones you found are great. Cute little tea cup - it does have lovely delicate pattern and 'Baby' will love her new watermelon tray...to cute! I really like those leaf glass votive candlesticks.I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with the neat little metal hummingbird...a new birdhouse - nice! I see 'we' share a common collection - 'Oil Lamps'..If we were close enough, we'd compare collections...lol I've got one similar to yours..I love them and they DO come in handy when the power goes out. I happened upon 4 footed dessert glass pcs while browsing @ Goodwill last yr ...for $1 each .... whoa, I grabbed those 'babies' smiling all the way to the check-out! Here they are displayed on a glass cake plate in my kitchen...I also added 2 beautiful glass ornaments w/silver stripes (you can see one in the front right glass) & 2 silver bird napkin rings: On this same counter (by my countertop stove) is this 'tin' I found @ Hobby Lobby a couple yrs ago ...using my 40% off coupon ~~ plus another 'chunky pottery snowman' ...did I say I just love this guys! ;-) The small blue crock I found in a consignment store a few yrs ago, too: Above this area kitchen area is my 'end cupboard' which I am always 'changing up' ... these 2 snowmen prints I just bought a few mos ago ... aren't they just adorable! I did buy these 'new' but the price was right! I'll still be adding a few vintage Christmas postcards to the black mirror hanging: You may have noticed that little shelf w/snowmen...here's a closer view... hubby made that shelf from old barnwood a long time ago... a few yrs back I painted it a creamy white. Roasted Vegetable Torte Â Ina Garten Serves 6 "Paula Hodges invented this recipe at Barefoot Contessa, and it was an immediate hit. Make it ahead of time and then cut it into wedges, like a cake. The layers of roasted vegetables look so beautiful." Â 2 zucchini, cut into Â¼ inch slices Â 1 red onion, cut in half lengthwise and sliced Â 1 teaspoon minced garlic Â Good olive oil Â Kosher salt Â Freshly ground pepper Â 2 red bell peppers, halved, cored, and seeded Â 2 yellow bell peppers, halved, cored, and seeded Â 1 eggplant, unpeeled, cut into 1/4 -inch slices (1 Â½ pounds) Â Â½ cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Cook the zucchini, onions, garlic, and 2 tablespoons olive oil in a large sautÃ© pan over medium heat for 10 minutes until the zucchini is tender. Season with salt and pepper. Brush the red and yellow peppers and eggplant with olive oil, season with salt and pepper, and roast on a baking sheet for 30 to 40 minutes, until soft but not browned. In a 6-inch round cake pan, place each vegetable in a single, overlapping layer, sprinkling Parmesan cheese and salt and pepper to taste between each of the layers of vegetables. Begin with half of the eggplant, then layer half of the zucchini and onions, then all of the red peppers, then all of the yellow peppers, then the rest of the zucchini and onions, and finally the rest of the eggplant. Cover the top of the vegetables with a 6-inch round of parchment paper or waxed paper. Place a 6-inch flat disk (another cake pan or the bottom of a false-bottom tart pan) on top and weight it with a heavy jar. Place on a plate or baking sheet (it will leak) and chill completely. Drain the liquids, place on a platter, and serve at room temperature. **Notes that I took from Chowhound: "Note that the recipe is for a 6" cake pan. I make it in either an 8" or 9" cake pan. Unfortunately, my Barefoot Contessa cookbook, with my notes for increasing amounts, is about 80 miles away right now. But, if memory serves, I use 2 eggplants, instead of the 1 specified. 3 zucchinis instead of 2. I honestly don't remember if I roast another pepper or two or not. It wouldn't hurt to have an extra on hand. It's important to use both yellow and red, because that's a big part of the presentation. As you can tell, it's just basic roasted vegetables (and sauteed, in the case of the zucchini and red onion). But beautifully presented. Also, I've never had enough fridge room to weight these with a jar when I've made them. I just throw on a couple of wrenches. this looks great! can i make it a day in advance? Absolutely. In fact, you have to. I make it the afternoon or evening before so it gets a good, long, overnight weighting. That's what lets all the veggies glom together (there's a good chef's term for you : ) ) so you have this nice torte that you can slice."

My go-to sides for a party are Napa Slaw and Sheshebop's Macaroni Salad. Both can be made ahead and are well received. Napa Slaw NOODLE MIX 3 packages original flavor Ramen noodles -- crushed 4 tbls black sesame seeds 8 oz sliced almonds ÃÂ½ stick melted butter THE DRESSING 1 c. peanut oil 2 tsp. soy sauce 1 c. sugar 1/2 c. rice vinegar 1/2 tsp. salt 2 flavor packets from the Raman noodles THE ASSEMBLY Napa cabbage (Bok Choy) Ã¯Â¿Â½" shred entire head for a party 1 bunch green onions Ã¯Â¿Â½" thinly sliced The Noodle Mix The Dressing FOR NOODLE MIX: Combine to coat with butter and heat in 300F oven for approximately 15-20 minutes, watching that the mixture does not get too brown. Cool. It keeps well in a zip-lock. FOR THE DRESSING: Combine and blend well. I use the stick blender. FOR THE ASSEMBLY: Make all components separately the day before. When ready to serve, combine cabbage, dressing, and noodle mix and toss. Macaroni Salad for 70 4 lb. macaroni 1 bag frozen peas 1 bunch celery 3 cans black olives 2 large onions 8 cups sundried or roasted tomatoes 2 packages of carrot pennies 8 cups shredded cheddar Dressing 2 qt mayo 8 oz. Lynn, I love your new white plates and what a deal you got on them! The blue ones are lovely also. Your white tablescape is very peaceful. I can also picture a nice beachy/coastal type setting with those colours together. The container that your faux flower arrangement is in is gorgeous and coordinates well with your white dishes. Great job!

Thank you for your comps on my newest dishes. DD, I was thinking the exact same thing about how well they'd work with a seaside arrangement!
DH hasn't even seen these yet, but I may pull out some of our shells, etc., and try them some evening for a cool Summer supper. I have a great scallop dish he likes. It may temper his reaction to one more set of dishes if his favorite seafood dish is served on them ;^P

Ah, this is what white on white means. I really could not get my head around putting white dishes on white linen but you really pulled it off, Lynn. Looks like a great start to the day! Your teacup and saucer set is darling! I agree with DD - the dishes would go very well with a beach theme.

I am curious - did you make all those lovely doilies you use in your tablesettings? They are beautiful.

And Kathleen, yes I'm very much a Cottage person. I've just bloomed where I was planted, so to speak . . . or rather, where DH went into practice. My dream is to win a lot of money and buy a summer place on a lake in Michigan where I can live in a cottage for months at a time. As it is, we rent a small group of cottages every June on Lake Huron in Lexington. They're white, surrounded by tall trees and pretty flower beds. Ahhhhhh . . .only 12 more days and I'll be back there again!

Lynne, I really really love your new white plates. Love the scalloped edges and the raised design on them. Just can't believe you got them for only $2.00 apiece. Wish I were home so I could run check for them at our Marshal's!

Your whole tablescape is fresh and lovely, and it's so great you were able to include such special pieces from friends and family.

The cottages look lovely, hope you have a wonderful time.
