Soap Scum on tumbled stone shower
Comments (2)marble is quite delicate to deal with. I'm not that knowledgable about these kinds of things but I've read something that just might help. This article will show you what products to use with sample tests on a marble surface. Hope you find it useful. Comments (4)Hello...Had to do the same as you and recaulk shower walls to bathtub and used a good commercial bathroom cleaner and a scotch brite pad and scrubbed well. Rinse clean and then dried with a towel, I then used 100% acetone on a rag to clean the region to be caulked, but check first to make sure the acetone won't dissolve your tub surround material! Use a q-tip in a tiny out of the way spot and rub surface to see if it attacks the plastic...if it dulls it or comes off on the q-tip then use alcohol instead. I did this twice, then blowed dried the joint well with hot hair dryer to make sure no water was present. Then used a bathroom grade 100% silicone caulk which prevents mildew from forming. Read the labels carefully as many silicone products don't retard mildew growth...it should say bathroom on the label. Best regards, Mark in Buffalo...See MoreSaved By Soap Scum
Comments (13)mmmm12; I was hired to tear this out, but after explaining all the alternatives to the homeowner, she wanted to live with it. It's a guest bath, will hardly get used, it's on a concrete slab and is lower than the adjacent floor so no water from the shower is going uphill to ruin the new hardwood installation. They couldn't build houses fast enough here in southwestern Florida a decade ago. Apparently inspection couldn't keep up. The homeowner and I will probably be dead before this needs replacement....See Morecleaning soap scum off acrylic tub?
Comments (11)Did you manage with the Dawn and vinegar, @User? My successful cleaning recipe for my dirty (regular dirt, not soap scum, mind you) acrylic shower pan ended up being baking soda and Dawn. I spread both on the surface, cover with microfiber cloths and pour hot water on it all (I fill the kettle) and wipe off after 30 minutes or so. The dirt wipes off with no effort. Been keeping it up since with just Dawn & water with a microfiber cloth weekly. Recently succeeded in removing tenacious soap scum from my old tile using Barkeepers' Friend and a Cosabella scrubby sponge. The Scotch-brite non scratching pads seem terribly ineffective for me regardless of the cleaner I use with them so won't repurchase. (Would read the BKF label carefully before trying it on an acrylic tub though.)...See Moremara_2008
