I'm afraid to clean my acrylic bathtub
Comments (11)I use Gel Gloss. I wrote a big reply the day you posted this and guess I forgot to hit submit after the preview. Bottom line, it didn't get posted (sigh). I use the Gel Gloss in the spray can that you can get at Lowes. It doesn't have the word "cleaner" on it but it does clean. I called the company to refresh my memory on this. When they developed the spray solution for this product, they had to water it down (for the spray nozzle). Regulations won't let them label it as a cleaner in this strength. It does clean and does so QUITE well. I've been using it for 16 months on my Bain Ultra acrylic tub. Love how it cleans, shines and protects. It's a little more labor intense because after you clean, you have to let it dry and then buff, but, you will be amazed how long you can go between cleanings. I just use the handheld shower to rinse after my bath and it's like new. The guy I spoke with said it's excellent for what I'm doing but be aware that it does contain a small amt of wax and can be slippery. I haven't had a problem. Doesn't feel "wax slippery" to me. Comments (12)I finally bit the bullet and joined the melaleuca club, so I use their tub and tile cleaner- and not only did it work on my (modern era) tub and shower - even got out the dye residue from me doing my hair in the sink... but it did wonders on the 60's pink Crane tub at my folk's house, which had a buildup that was half hard water, half soap scum (looked like Lost River Caverns under the faucet) but, believe it or not, suave dandruff shampoo works great in a pinch ;)...See Morehow to clean porcelin bath tub?
Comments (5)CLR is a mix of acids. Usually the calcium will dissolve in acid, but sometimes soap will not. If the tub is in daily use, you could spray it with Clean Shower after every use. Eventually (month or so) the alcohol in Clean Shower will soften both the calcium from the water and the soap scum. Both calcium and soap dissolve in alcohol. Then you can use a plastic scrubber (I used a Choreboy type scrubber). If the tub is not in daily use, you could spray it at least daily with the same stuff for a month or two - then scrub with the Choreboy. Daily use of Clean Shower has kept my shower clean for years with pretty hard water....See MoreAcrylic tubs - do they feel cheap or normal tub feel?
Comments (23)I bought an AMERICH WRIGHT base level acrylic tub for $1,000 from a bath and kitchen store in 2017 and it is a piece of plastic. After two years It was stained, difficult to clean and never feels entirely clean, the caulk around the tub has needed replacement several times, and the Americh label partly wore off almost immediately. I never use any abrasive cleaning products (all organic). When I contacted the manufacturer they pointed out that I the care instructions said I was supposed to WAX my tub with high-quality carnauba paste type wax. Wax my tub? They also referred me to a very expensive tub cosmetic repair company. Unfortunately I removed an old enamel tub instead of refinishing it. Number 1 worst decision in my remodel after seeking lots of advice. I dream of ripping this one out and replacing it with an enamel tub. Taking a bath in an acrylic tub feels cheap even though it wasn't.....See MoreUser
