OT - Prayers needed for DH

Please pray for my DH. He was caught in a machine at work today about 11am and was crushed pretty badly. Several bones in the lower lumbar spine were broken,left kidney was damaged and the tube from kidney to bladder was torn,spleen was cut and is bleeding. The next 48 hours are critical. I am with him in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit now. We need all the prayer we can get. I will try to get back with an update later today. Thanks.

OMG! Betty, I am sooo sorry to hear this. Bless both your hearts, this is just so scary. My thoughts and prayers are with you both. Please do give us an update when you get a chance. I just wish there were more we could do to be of help to you. God bless and keep you. (((Hugs))) Luvs

Oh Betty, I am so sorry. What a horrific accident. I don't even know what to say. Other than a lot of love and prayers will be coming for both of you as long as needed.

You are all so wonderful. Audry took a turn for the worse, so she will remain heavily sedated until Wednesday at the earliest and on the respirator. They are aggressivly treating the pnemonia and for H1N1, eventho the tests have not come back in Tomorrow, I think the doc said, an infectious disease doctor will come in. They ran a scope and took a scraping of her lungs today. The xrays they took this morning showed the pnemonia worsening, but the doctor said that that could be due to the fact that when the first xrays were taken she was dehydrated and once hydrated the infection appears clearer, therefore looking worse, but may not actually be. Please continue to pray for Audry and her mother Tammy. This is heartbreaking watching your child suffer for her child. As we were leaving the hospital, a gentle rain was falling and a beautiful rainbow appeared. God is truly good. Thank you so much. My love to all of you.

I just got back home. Thank you Linda, for posting about Albert. Albert was not sick, this happened suddenly. I spoke to him last Saturday, he was telling me about his new deck and the flowerbeds they were putting in. I told him I had stopped by his house but they were not there. I saw what Betty and him had done, his yard was beautiful. He offered to lend me his trailer so I could bring big plumeira plants home from Corpus for a couple of guys on the plumeira forum. but I did not have a hitch on my vehicle. He said he would offer to drive, but his daughter had taken his truck to Belton. He was always thinking of others. He told me he loved to read the fourm, but since he moved down to the coast, was so busy, he did not have time to post. We were talking about the Oct plant swap, he said they had so much fun last year when they came. Barbra

Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers. Well it is Sunday and we got through the reunion all right. Actually it went great. We had 12 classmates out of 42 show up and 25 little kids. My folks rushed home and were there late Friday night and the girls stayed at my sisters that night. My folks put up 2 pools and also got one of those giant little tykes water slides that inflate. People showed up around 1:30 and stayed until after 8. We all had so much fun, 2 of my sisters came over and helped out with the kids, they had fun on the water slide and pools, my dad got one of the horses out and they had pony rides, he also had his full sized popcorn maker going and they ate tons of popcorn and we also had popsicles and watermelon to cool off. I made too much food as usual and my mil made several salads, we just grilled out hotdogs and had a lot of fun. Those that wanted to had brought beer so we just sat around talking about the high school days and comaparing current notes. I can tell you it was a blast and took my mind off dh. He did come down and had fun too. We go see the surgeon on Tuesday and see what he has to say. I think he is planning on doing more tests and another CT scan. They got his pain under control. They think that it was a combo of the gall stones and they discovered an infection in his intestinal area so put him on iv antibiotics. His blood sugar has really dropped since Friday and we are working on getting it under control. The Dr. thinks that the gall stones and infection brought out the diabetes. She is positive about it and that with diet, exercise, cutting out sugar and oral meds that we can get things under control. They won't do anything about the gallsones and hernia until the diabetes is under control. All in all it really has been a long week but in a way I am glad that it happened. DH hasn't had a physical in 11 years and is overweight. While there I asked Dr. to do a full work up on him and am curious to see what his cholestoral is. The hardest thing is that he really isn't a fruit or veggie person. I am sure you know that between the kids and I most of our diet is veggies and fruits and meat is a side dish. Right now his blood sugar has been staying around 180 which is in the high range of what the diabetes consultant wants but is way better than what it was before. Now to try and catch up on my sleep, we are also in the processes of moving the girls and Hayden down stairs and had carpet put down on Friday so the house has stuff every where. My mom is going to come up on Tuesday and stay a couple of days to help me catch up. With me being pregnant and Dan's hernia the furniture moving will have to wait until we get some family to come up and help move things around our 2 story house. So far he made it through the night. BP held up well and heartbeat stayed down to a safe level. Small fever now. Prayers are working. Keep praying. Will update as soon as I get something new. I feel the love. A BIG thanks.

Betty, thanks for the update. Did you get a little rest? I know how hard it can be just waiting and feeling so helpless, and being so worried. What kind of work does your DH do? Things can happen so darn fast! Hope you have family or friends there with you. Will continue to pray for you both. Luvs

Sooo sorry to here about your DH's tragic accident - my prayers go out to him for a speedy and full recovery.

Remember too - take care of yourself, it'll help his peace of mind & recovery to know you're okay also.

Thank each and every one of you for lifting us up in prayer. The nurses call Alfred their miracle patient.
He continues to improve. I don't even know everyone praying,but I know God hears and answers EVERY prayer.

They are having a special brace made to fit him that will support all of the tissue,organs,and bones that have been tramatized by the pressure of being caught in the machinery.
Luvs, he works at a brick factory. The machine had a malfunctioning part and he bent over into it to check the part by hand and took too long and the puller bar that pulls the brick down the table caught him and pulled him down into a support beam and just kept pressing him into it until it had finished its hydrolic cycle. It held him there tight until someone could hear him trying to yell for help and hit the stop and reverse button to release him.
He was compressed for maybe 60 very long seconds.

Even though he has broken bones on his lumbar part of the spine, they are on the side and don't protect his spinal cord. All involved with the spinal cord is A-OK!!!

His kidney is the biggest miracle of all. All I can say is it is doing great. His spleen is what they are watching now and it is being so good!! When the brace is ready tomorrow, they are going to get him up and moving and start therapy. He will probably be moved out of Surgical Intensive Care tomorrow. All of this would have been impossible without the miracle of everyone's prayers. Keep them coming just a little longer.

I hope I haven't rambled too long. When I do crash they will have to set off a bomb to wake me up!! Family, friends, and church family have been in and out constantly. Oldest son has not left our side. I thank God for letting me keep the love of my life.

What wonderful news, Betty. Thank you for being able to really explain everything to us and keep us updated. The prayers will not stop, tell Alfred that he's got a LOT of folks pulling for him. Grab some rest and food any chance you get, you have to take care of yourself too.

Just a quick note to update. He had a good night and they will get him out of bed and in a chair shortly. Will try to let you know how that went. Hoping to get a real room where I can get horizontal. I CAN NOT sleep sitting up. Thank God for strong caffine!! I don't know how to tell you how much I appreciate you all hanging with us. It lifts my spirits so much to run down here and log on and read your encouraging notes and see you are still lifting us up in prayer. It is really working.

Hello Everyone,
I thought the next time I signed on I would be sharing the news that we were in a room. We got moved to a room last night. I got a shower and 2 1/2 hours sleep. He kept complaining about his stomach was bloated and he was having a lot of stomach pain. This morning the first thing he said was that he felt worse than yesterday and he started running a fever and hurting in his left chest area every time he tried to breathe.
Long story short- We are back in SICU. I got very upset at first and cried and cried. After praying and watching them work on him I realized that they had moved a little too fast moving him to a room before they made sure that everything was working properly.
The Dr explained that when the kidney was injured it told the colon to shut down too. But, it didn't tell it to start back up when it started back up. That caused problems everywhere. Also, he has been in the bed too long and there is fluid in that left lung that has caused infection. Can't spell that other word!!!! Too little sleep!
I do feel better about this move because this time they will take care of business all over his body and he will be ready to leave next time.
Please keep us in your prayers.

Has anyone heard from Judith? I've been praying for her but haven't had time to check any other posts. If anyone knows anything please let me know here. Thanks again for EVERYTHING.

Betty, I am so sorry for the setback. I am sure they will get him fixed up again and he was moved too soon. Prayers definitely continue for both of you. I wish you could get more rest somehow. I worry about you too.

Judith posted yesterday, sounded like surgery successful and her sense of humor great. She posted on the one I started about praying for her. If you get a chance, go read what she wrote.
