Lacanche install help needed asap...please!

I'm getting very close to cabinet installation and every 1/8" is critical. I need to know if your cabinets flanking the range butt right up to the range or if there needs to be a little wiggle room (should the range ever need to be removed etc). I spoke to Eric at Lacanche and he told me the cabinets butt up but then said there's usually 1/4" gap on either side between the range and cabinet. I was hoping for 1/8". Could someone please tell me if you have gaps and if so, how big they are. Also, was your range installed after the cabinets or did the installers put in a cabinet, then the range, then the other cabinet? Thanks so much!

My range butts up to the countertop on either side. Since there is about a 1/8" overlap of the countertop over the cabinet, this leaves a little more than 1/8" between cabinet and range. You do need to leave some wiggle room in case you need to get the range out. Our cabinets were installed first. The range was placed and measurements were made for countertops and backspash. The range was then pulled out, counters and backspash completed, and put back. We've also had to pull it out since it's been installed to replace an electric igniter. The range is not easy to pull out since you can't use the handles.

We've got 1/4" on either side of our Cluny.

Am I missing something. What are you gaining...is it that hard to pick the plug up and plug it into the wall???? You still need to pick up the hairdryer? Those would definitely fail inspection in my town for the one shown on the web link, and I would doubt many electricians would take on that liability.....repetive motion, strain relief, proper cable? The only thing I would recommend if you MUST have is an outlet attached to the cabinet rear or attached underneath the top with the hair dryer cord running from the outlet into the drawer. Your device will need a long cord. By the way, in our town, a house burned down from such a contraption...the hairdryer or curling iron was left running and the drawer was then shut. Again, what is being gained here...time savings for plugging in a cord? The proper way to store a 1000 plus watt device is to unplug them and properly coil and stow the cord. They should never be left plugged in all the time.

You want modern at a good price, I'd go with a Wyndham collection tub. We're getting the 60" version of the Mermaid because space is tight. But it comes in 2 other sizes. We are replacing a 20+ yo whirlpool tub that hasn't been used in years due to the reasons you stated above. I just want something to relax in without the worry of gunky stuff shooting out the jets so we are opting for a soaking tub in our soon-to-be-remodeled MB. Let’s hope that your custom cabinet maker uses a conversion varnish, custom matched to BM colors. And sprays in a clean room, not slapping on housepaint on site with bugs and dust. That’s what a fake custom guy does. A true custom guy controls the end result from wood sourcing, through finishing, through install Start to finish. Hi Nicoleradams, Just curious - what did you end up choosing? We are in a similar decision point right now, planning on a Lacanche Vougeot for our kitchen and thinking of a Miele CSO XXL for the spice kitchen. Based on reviews, it seems like the Miele is fantastic for re-warming food, but the online manual suggests that it doesn't actually have an official keep warm setting (beyond a 15 minute default after food is done cooking). I guess people could just turn it on to a fairly low temperature with some steam/humidity to keep things moist?

Horseygirl, just curious, how did they get the range out? Was the ignitor for the oven?

We have the Cluny 1400. It has 1/8" on either side. This is enough space to slide the range in and out and does not leave a wide enough gap that I have to worry about food sliding down the space.

Thanks, Plucky. After reading your post and rechecking the website, I realized I was misreading the installation drawing. Apparently the range is 39 3/8" and the drawing shows a 39 5/8" opening, allowing room for the 1/8" gap. I thought the range was 39 5/8" which is why I was confused. So glad I got this cleared up.

Sorry it took me so long to answer your questions! Although it is a pain to have to pull the range out, my husband was smart enough to think ahead and put teflon sliders on the feet of the range. We have heart pine floor (which is very soft) and have to put down a piece of masonite in front of the range to move it onto. He just inched it out by grabbing underneath as close to the sides as he could get. The sliders made it much easier. Our range sat for over two years before installation and we imagine that contributed to the short life of one of our ignitors. It was easy to replace once the range was out. If I remember right, it controlled 3 of the burners and the oven (I have a Cluny 1400). All's good now, though. Love, love the range. Drastically improved my cooking!

Thanks Horseygirl. I thought about the teflon sliders but wasn't sure if it would be ok to use them. I definitely will now and the masonite is a great idea! So glad you love your range. I'm hoping I will too.
