A few people had asked me to share so here's the progress so far... My apologies for the overload.

The dress -

The mens suits (DH will have a wine tie and the other boys will have chocolate/gold ones)-

Mira, one year I got a load of "mulch" from Asplunde Tree Trimmers. It was a mix of ragged green leaves and coarsely chopped wood about 2 or 3 inches long. They dumped this big pile in my driveway about 12 feet wide and 5 feet tall. It smelled like rotten spinach by the time I finally got it wheel barrowed and spread out but I ended up with about 4 or 5 inches of solid mulch. In a couple years it was completely broken down and it really did help my soil a lot. I don't think I would repeat it, I mean it really stank bad after day 3 or 4 but just in case, you might want to check it out. I don't know if they still do that but I had seen these piles in different places and found out thats what it was. It smelled OK once I got it on the garden but I really was gagging by the time I finished taking down the pile every time I got a new load of it. This is the second time I am trying to send this. GW keeps spitting it back so if it prints twice, that means I pushed the send again button. I really don't get that when it happens.

Oooh, Bee, this is exciting! Here are some links to get you started. I've been using Scottish burlap (made for rug hooking) as the backing for my rugs, but I've been reading about how it deteriorates rather quickly over time, and linen is much stronger. You might want to use printed patterns, particularly at first, but if you want to design anything yourself you'll need to buy backing. The other day I found this 100% LINEN BURLAP at a quilt supply site. Great price!! (And it also has great prices for quilting stuff.) Yes, I use the "pasta-cutter-thing." They're expensive, but they last forever. I inherited mine from my father's cousin Peggy, who introduced me to rug hooking when I was a child. (But I didn't actually hook anything until my thirties.) The Model A, pictured at top, is what I use. When I had trouble with it last year, I shipped it back to Fraser for an overhaul. I think they charged me something like $15. Amazing! It probably dates back to the 1940s, but the design is the same as the new ones. Over the years I've bought most of my equipment--hooks, dyes, extra cutting heads for the Fraser machine, burlap, etc.--from W. Cushing & Co, which was owned by Joan Moshimer when she was living. Her book, The Complete Book of Rug Hooking, was the first book (of many!) I bought on the subject. Joan was a war bride from England who discovered traditional rug hooking when she arrived in Massachusetts. She was a fabulous artist and a kind, sweet lady. The latest addition to my rug hooking library is Wool Rug Hooking. The great price and stellar reviews seduced me. I need to learn a lot more about finishing rugs and mats. Last year I bought The Secrets of Finishing Hooked Rugs, and I'm reading it now. When I linked it for you, I couldn't believe the crazy prices! I paid about $15, and in fact sold one for about the same price. I really don't think anyone is going to pay $200 for this book. But I think I'd better start taking extra good care of it. :-) The Internet is full of beautiful websites selling rug hooking patterns. Lots of individuals have their own designs for sale. Yep yep yep. You are lovely friends, giving a party in honor of your friends who got married. You are being careful not to make the slightest suggestion that anyone expects guests to buy gifts, or even any acknowledgement that they might. Also, don't worry about whether to call it a post-wedding reception or something like that. In fact, if I were doing this, I would just word the invitation something like, "Please come to/You are invited to to/Mary Smith requests the pleasure of your company at [or whatever the formality of the occasion dictates] a party in honor of Cuthbert and Petunia Jones [or Cuthbert Miller and Petunia Jones, if they have different last names, or I guess also if the invitations go out before she changes her name]/date/time/place" You don't even have to mention anything about the wedding on the invitation. I wouldn't. Anyone close enough to invite to the part presumably knows that they are getting married, and that's obviously why you are honoring them. The less you refer to it on the invitation, the less likely anyone will think that the idea is to rustle up some gifts. But it seems to me that anyone as nice as you probably travels in a circle that doesn't assume nastiness, and the invitees' response will be more like, "Oh, isn't that nice of Mary to do that. I'm glad we'll all get to celebrate, even though it's going to be a small wedding. I wish I'd thought of it myself." I don't see anything wrong with this even if they had had a big wedding. So there! :-)

AV + Security Bids = Super Confusing. Who Knows What This Stuff Means?

Hi Guys - so being the owner of a Home Automation/Low Voltage company just like the companies with attached quotes, a few comments that you can decide what you want to do with. (1) These quotes seem reasonable for what you are asking for (2) AV quotes will vary a lot depending on what is included and what is not. Pre-wire/trimout prices should be pretty similar unless someone is using a thicker gauge wire or not estimating the wire run lengths correctly (3) Equipment will vary the bid significantly. Distributed audio speakers (those not in a theater) don't have to be that nice as mentioned above however you can also go too crappy on your speakers as well and have some pretty significant buyers remorse afterwords. In-wall/in-ceiling speakers vary slightly in size across manufacturers so drywall repair costs need to be factored in as well if you go too cheap. Generally speaking we tell our clients to go with a speaker brand that has the same size speaker at a bunch of different price points with different performance and build characteristics. In so doing, you can chose the speaker that fits your budget with minimal to no cost to swap out. The most significant cost which you haven't covered yet is the amps and other head-end equipment that drives all these systems. (4) Security systems can be done cheaply or they can be done correctly. Personally we prefer to allocate a zone on the alarm panel per opening. In so doing, this makes trouble-shooting any zone issues easier for the client to do on their own and faster for the security tech to resolve. This means every opening is home run back to the security panel which does mean more wire. We could also daisy chain one wire to 4-6 openings in a room or area which would be much cheaper and less wire. However, when its time to trouble-shoot, it becomes much more of a headache as you have go through 4-6 openings to resolved instead of one (5) Wired Pro surveillance systems will have local storage rather than cloud based storage. As such, they will be in need of a hard drive, similar to a computer. As you might guess. the bigger the hard drive the more the cost. However, what is also true is that the bigger the hard driver the more history of camera footage you can save. Additionally, you can also save higher resolution footage on a larger hard drive. Cameras have an Mp rating on them most typically and the higher the Mp rating the more resolution you are capturing in camera image. As you might guess the higher the Mp rating the more they cost-- sometimes $400-500 per camera or more. More resolution means more detail and allows police/detectors and other to zoom in on any potential bad guys and get license plate numbers, facial details etc. With lower Mp cameras, they are cheaper but then a lot of this detail is lost. (6) Whole house Wifi is good to have and plan for but not to rely on for the reasons mentioned above (aka not secure and throttling your bandwidth compared to a wired connection). Up until the latest round of Wireless Access points, the more wireless devices you add to your home, the more they have to share a single 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz radio connection and the slower they will all go. It is only with the latest release of WAPs that feature 4x4 MU MIMO tech that you can truly experience lots of wirelessly connected devices connected to your network without throttling bandwidth. However this assumes that your devices are setup to connect in a MU MIMO configuration (any device older than a year likely is not). If these devices are not MU MIMO capable, then you will still run into the same throttling issue. Generally speaker we tell our clients that any device that permanently sits in the home should have wired connection to it with only portable devices and enter and leave the home being wireless. (7) If you are truly lost on how to compare bids and make an "apples to apples" comparison, hire one of the AV companies that seems the most trustworthy to you and have them design the system for you. Then have all 3 companies bid against that design. For large residential and commercial projects, this is typical, at least for us it is. (8) AV companies are selling expertise and design in addition to gear and wire. As such they are typically not going to break everything down in infinite detail so you can buy all your stuff online and then have them come back and install it. Most of the time, the expertise and design labor is built into each system of the project so they are not going to want to give that away for free any more than a lawyer or accountant would want to give away their expertise for free. I would be upfront about it and just ask them to line item how much their design/expertise labor is and what that includes. For example, does it include taking that pool contractor the last 6ft in terms of connecting his Jandy iqualink system to the internet when he can't do it on his own? Does it include wiring up your Nest Thermostat because the HVAC guy won't use anything Thermostat but he one he knows? What about a reconfiguring your Home Theater wiring as you decided to get rid of that cabinetry where the equipment was going? Or the electrician who doesn't know how to wire up the smart-switch you purchased-- who will install it now? In a nutshell, there will be quite a few things where a Home Automation/Low Voltage contracting companies expertise will be useful and worth the money paid for it. Hopefully you find this helpful.

Everything is going to be perfect. That dress is to die for and the jewelry too. The colors are just the thing for October. My wedding was October 2nd (1976). Keep us posted of any new additions.

I really am having a good time putting things together this time around and it's the obsurd organizer in me that says get it all done now so I can rest a bit easier as time goes on.
Frou: How lovely! I do think it's a good day as scheduling goes we'll be sharing an anniversary with you :).
I had wanted the 9th as it's the weekend before my Mothers birthday but our Host is holding a wedding on the 10th and since we are staying in his guesthouse on our weekend, I didn't want the other couple intruding on "my space"..lol We settled on the 2nd to spread the calendar out a bit.

wow. You're organized and *driven*! Given the same amount of time I'd probably have chosen the food and made a list that simply said: "get dress/outfit". lol!

Your gown is gorgeous! and very elegant. It looks strapless... I've never worn a strapless dress!

I've heard of a LOT of people planning a 10/10/10 wedding date. They figure it will be easy to remember the date!

The friend's estate must really be something. You're planning an outdoor wedding, right? (you recently commented about not wanting to freeze :) Do you have any pics of the estate and grounds? It all sounds lovely.

The alter arrangements I'll be keeping for future use and probably one of the centerpieces. Our Mothers each get one to keep and the other 3 will be given to select guests at the end of the evening.

My gown is strapless but I'm working on correcting that as it's made in a way I can convert it to having straps for 'safety reasons'.. LOL
There's allot of hype here about the 10-10-10 as well. I've spoken with various friends who are in the business in different ways and they are already getting many orders for things for that date. We opted no because it's a Sunday and I won't ask our friends/family to alter their day for us.

Your link works and I checked out the entire site. It's a nice memorial and sounds like my kind of place (nature preserve)! I didn't notice anything about a facility for large parties, so you must be planning the entire setup to be outdoors? I hope that you have good luck with the weather on the 2nd!

He has an outdoor courtyard that I intend to have the recepetion at since we're having an early ceremony of 2 or 3:00 (barring bad weather...Nooo! of course) but also a large building onsite that we can arrange in the event it becomes neccessary.
He is a friend and former co-worker of my DHs so I know he'll take care of us and do his very best to make things go well in any event.

My goodness, I had no idea that a wedding was in the works here . . . BIG congrats, MM! I agree totally, your dress in TDF! Is it gold or cream, I can't tell from the photo, but either way, it's stunning! I love all the rest of your choices, too. Gosh, I'm impressed with your organization. The flowers for everything are so pretty and those cakes are making me hungry just looking at them! Please keep us posted on all the details. This is going to be such fun!

Thank you :). It would seem after 8.5 years of waiting on my part, the poor guy decided I could stay. LOL
My dress is a Davinci in an Oyster Color which is kind of a blend of light peach and cream. The hand beadwork is more of a coppery gold color.
I have finished the flowers for the cake, the Bouts for the men & decorated the unity candle which I'll be putting up pics of tomorrow sometime. The plan is to work on the cosages and the bouquets tomorrow so maybe I'll have the pics of them as well.
I'm going to leave everything together in this one thread so peek back again if interested. :)
It's so wonderful for me to be able to share here with everyone as we're keeping most things a secret from our family/friends until the day arrives.

It's been a crazy few days around here but I've managed to finish the bouts, mothers corsages , the memorial flowers for my Dad , his Mother & his Great Grandmother and trimmed the unity candle.
The next task is bouquets which I will post as soon as they get done. :)

Oh, I am LOVIN' those colors, MM ...very pretty & I love the brown ribbon added to the Mom's flowers! Ya know, my first serious collection of dishes was "Autumn Leaf" by Jewel Tea...and I have those in a curio cabinet. Your colors just call to me! Here's a pic:

MM...sorry I've been so late to comment on all your beautiful plans.
I think your dress is just so lovely and elegant along with all your other choices. I had a fall wedding too..my favorite season, so I'm loving all the color combinations and floral arrangements.
I too love the brown ribbon for the Mom's flowers, which by the way, is such a striking combination.
You seem to be moving along so smoothly..knowing exactly what you want. I'm really happy for you and

Love the idea of decorated memorial candles. DD used white roses as a memorial to her grandparents and brother who had passed on and couldn't be with her at her wedding. Had never heard of it before but it was nice.

For the candle, I bought the gem sticky that just happened to match the scroll pattern on my dress/tiera and applied it to the really tall pillar candle.

The bouquets are now finished which is the end of the floral stuff. Now onto putting together the rest of the reception. Almost there!.. then the waiting begins.

Adding to the progress...
I just "can't be happy" with something simple according to the Groom..LOL
This poignant statement came in response to the groan of not being able to find a cake base I liked (I've changed cake ideas from the one above but change of mind is entitled right?.)LOL
I decided I want this one without the flowers and with chocolate ribbon instead of white (ivory regualar cake icing instead of fondant also) which turned into an apparently impossible task when I went to the cake lady. I simply asked her to do the 3 single layers and I would put it together, put the ribbon on it and add the flowers myself. You'd think I was asking her to build an Ark in a day or something *roll eyes* but she kindly referred me to a lovely woman who works in another part of the store as well but does cakes on her own time. Score!! She understood exactly what I wanted and for half the price. ...
but I didn't like the board under it. What's one to do? ... Make your own of course

the tray and the tablecloth which is going on our cake table. Major TS score of $9.00 for a gorgeous 8 foot long completely perfect cloth...

Another of those "just can't keep it simple things- I don't like the forks scattered all over the table at receptions so the answer to that was baskets and the perfect find came from the Dollar Tree of all places.

and a sneak peek at what the guest tables will look like, scaled down majorly as I obviously don't have an 8ft table sitting around..lol
The main cloth is actually ivory but I flunked photography as we all know , with a chocolate strip down the center and 2 centerpieces per table with something in between that I haven't figured out yet.

Hopefully you all don't get sick of me before this is all over. :)

Very lovely cake idea! Plate is goregous! And I love the chocolate down the center of the tables! Are there a bunch of 8' tables with these 2 centerpcs? Very lovely! I am lovin' all your flowers! Do you like bells or there shape? I'm just thinking glass "cloche"(s) with something goldish glittery underneath??? Well, MM, you didn't ask...I'm just brainstorming! Everything is so-o-o lovely...and you are so organized! Kudos to you!

I think you need to start a new thread though...how about "Wedding Stuff for June cont." ...and then we can have a "Wedding Stuff for July cont." What do you think? TFS your progress! Jeanne S.

Oh goodie, more fun wedding things to look at! I'm not getting the least bit tired of seeing all of this MM. Your wedding and reception are going to be so lovely! I really like your idea for the cake. Although fondant is gorgeous to look at, I've never personally liked the flavor all that much. And, I love the idea of using flowers on it instead of a bride & groom statue. When DH & I married (27 years ago) people weren't using flowers that much yet. Still, I didn't want a B&G, so I chose two white doves. It looked pretty, but I didn't want to keep them afterwards. I know I've said it before, but I have to tell you how drop-dead gorgeous your dress is.

Both cakes are lovely, but you need to go with what you like best for sure. How great that you were able to get what you wanted and at a better price! You're making progress, and the big day is getting closer. You seem to be enjoying the process too, and that is great. Luvs

I did think of the goldish glittery idea last night as I was trying to fall asleep and though I still need to "try it", I'm thinking of a strand of gold beads with a line of glittery tulle and maybe ivy running the length of the table with the huge open roses I already have in red and yellow. Like allot of things, it sounds ok but I won't know till I see it.
I want to avoid multiple small pieces if I can to keep a clean line.
I have thought of starting a second thread to keep this one from getting to long since there won't be much else really to share until after the wedding. Perhaps "Wedding Part II"?..

As you are, I'm not big on having people on the cake but in our case we're going to have both. I didn't plan it that way but the Grooms Dad was so excited to see his only son and first born child finally getting married (he's enduring a battle with Cancer so it's fortunate that he's still with us to enjoy the moment), he ran out and purchased the beautiful Lennox couple cake topper that is above and gifted it to us. It wasn't my first choice at all but I don't have the heart to let him down so on the cake it will go and the little flower arrangements will trail down the steps of the cake as a color accent.
I don't like fondant at all! either. I've only tried it once at a wedding and the only thing I can refer to the taste as is ... well... dirt. *lol*
Thank you for your lovely comment on my dress It really is my favorite piece. I'm making myself work out more and staying stern on the very careful diet I started at the first of the year to ensure it continues to fit. 17 pounds lost so far. Whooot!

I really am enjoying myself and feeling very good about the way things have come together. I decided that the first cake option , though I love it, wasn't fitting in with the clean lines and less "fluffy" style that we're tending towards so I figured better change it while I can than regret it later.

The tie came in today and it's absolutly perfect in color. Yay!
113 days and counting. Almost to the bouble digits and still a ton of things to do.. lol

MM, more beautiful pictures. You have such good taste that I think your cake will be wondeful the way you've described it. The cake plate looks perfect for your cake. So happy you found a new baker for half price.

Like the tablecloth and basket together. I like the idea of putting the forks in baskets and it will be less last minute work.

Your tables will look great no matter what you choose so can hardly wait to see what you come up with. I'd be brainstorming like Jeanne if I had any extra time. Maybe Jeanne can come and help out.LOL

Glad your happy with the tie color. I take it you ordered it and wasn't positive the color would match the way you wanted. Time is flying and so are all of your tasks. You seem to be on top of it.
