Anyone seen a 36' microwave & vent over a gas cooktop?

Has anyone seen this? I currently have a gas cooktop, 36" with a vent hood. I really want 2 ovens and a microwave and this *brilliant* idea ..."put a large micro above the cooktop" and get the 2 ovens.

I've never seen it, not sure if it would even look right. I looked up 36" microwaves, but it looked like a smaller one with a bunch of trim.

.....I kept correcting that to say 36" not 36' .....LOL But it would not take.

Are you seriously saying you want to downgrade from a real hood to an over the range micro "vent"? Not convinced that is what you are saying so perhaps you can clarify to others can input. Good luck! Tina

Blue Star, American and DCS come in 48 inch and are less costly than AGA. I guess I price a 36 range and separate oven vs a 48. One thing I like about a range is the oven is also under the hood for broiling things like fish. I have the DCS AG 30 inch and rarely need high for anything though I am cooking quantities for only 2. It has 2 size burners, 3/17500 & 2/12500. Blue Star is open burners the other two are sealed. If you do a search on the bottom of the appliance front page I think you will see a lot of happy people with these 3 ranges.

I just asked an appliance guy about the same thing. He said they can actually go anywhere, even on a counter if you add bumper feet for raising to allow some air space under it. Also it needs a dedicated circuit available. The OTR is driving me nuts. Always seems to be someone cooking when I want to get in there. And watching all the steam or oil rising up on it means constant wiping down. Do you like your Advantium? I ended up buying a small counter MW because I lost the MW use when cooking. With the above I am a bit leary of countertop, plus the sides are far uglier than what you are seeing. Am still considering under a top cupboard in another area, but having the OTR far lower than currently installed. The sides and bottom can be seen, either cupboards are needed on the sides or panels. You need circulating air for auto filter as the micro deems fit. Placing other appliances under may take away from your visual and still allow air circulation. Not sure about the trim taking this away and if wood is a good option. There are trim kits for built-ins, cannot say if they would work for OTRs. Am also thinking of the possiblity of under counter or a built-in, but the dedicated circuit is not available to do this just anywhere. Regardless of price, a built in is almost worth it. Although looking at them, they do not have the interior space available as do the OTRs. Probably not much help here.

Babs, I share your frustration! I have a Maytag Gemini and use both ovens frequently and also love having the option of using a smaller oven to save energy. I am also planning on a 36" induction cooktop but am having trouble figuring out how to fit double ovens in my smallish kitchen. I wish there was a reasonably priced 36" induction range. (I'm currently drooling over that 36" Diva, but when it says to call for pricing I know that means it's out of my price range.) Here are some of the options I've come up with; maybe one of them will help you. (BTW, I have no idea which one I'm going to use, but I don't think we'll be doing our reno for a couple of years due to finances.) 1) Put in 1 standard built-in oven either under the cooktop or on refrig wall. For second oven, use Breville oven. Problem with this is the Breville can't be built-in and I really don't want it on the counter (I would get the bigger one). If this could be built-in below a counter, I think this would be the perfect economical option. 2) Second oven would be a speed oven of some sort (Electrolux, Miele, Advantium, etc.). This is a significantly more expensive option than #1, but it would be built-in which is a plus. In order to do this one, I would have to move the doorway to my dining room so I could take advantage of about 2 more feet of wall space. If you put your main oven below your cooktop, maybe you could fit a speed oven under the counter somewhere else in your kitchen. #3. Sharp SuperSteam Oven. It can be on counter or built-in. It's a steam, convection, and MW. I was thinking I could put this on a shelf over my counter. I think there may be 36" Induction ranges available in a few years, but that doesn't help anyone doing their reno now. It's hard to work 2 ovens into a small kitchen, but it can be done. It suddenly occurred to me about a month ago that if I moved the doorway to my dining room, I'd get rid of a blind corner and gain about 2 feet of wall space which might, just might, give me enough space to fit stacked double ovens. I found that the size played a bigger role in aesthetics than I thought. In a very large kitchen, a 30 inch range may look underwhelming but you may be able to compensate for that visually to give it more presence. My kitchen has a very long wall. I had initially been leaning towards a 36 in induction cooktop with wall ovens placed elsewhere. Because of the proportions of the room, and some other considerations I went with a 48 inch midnight blue Aga Elise induction to be surrounded by white cabinetry and a blue island. Once the range went in, it still looked too small for the space so I had the cabinets on either side painted in the same navy blue to give it more presence. You are wise to consider the overall proportions of the room. And yes, aesthetics do matter.

Tina... What I want is a perfect solution where there is none. I'm just trying to cover the options. Seems no matter what I think of, there is always someone (including myself) telling me why it's not a good idea. I thought the Wall Oven/Speed Oven would be the answer-- people tell me that the speed oven really isn't the same as having a 2nd oven and that I will end up using it mostly as a microwave anyway. A waste of big bucks. Then I'm told to do a convection microwave with a trim kit for much less, but that is even less like a 2nd oven. How about putting a double wall oven AND a micro all on one wall. Well, being 5'2 I won't be able to comfortably use the micro, AND I lose valued cabinet real estate. Next idea is 2 wall ovens and a countertop microwave....but there really isn't a great spot in the general work area to do that.

So now this idea pops into my head. Is it *brillant*? No...hence the sarcasm. I don't really want a microwave replacing my vent hood (albeit it's nothing grandiose) but I'd like to add it to the list of poor options if it does exist.

It's so frustrating, seeing all these great spaces, and I want to do something seemingly so simple and have the hardest time! *Whines some more*

I see what you are asking now and I hear you on no perfect solution - I had no room in my kitchen for a second oven. However, I would never give up proper overhead ventilation above my range. I do not have a speed oven; however, all I have heard about the Miele one makes me think it would be a great unit. I do not see why it would not be good as a second oven - is that not what it is for? An oven and a micro combined? I am hoping speed oven people here will be able to come to help you! Good luck!

I am putting in a 48'' CC range and hood, and a 30'' Advantium oven. The speedoven is going in the one of the upper cabinets near the range but far enough away that two can cook without getting in each other's way. It will have the 'over the range vent' which I will use when using counter-top appliances.

Have you checked out the Breville Smart Oven? It's a countertop toaster oven that also bakes, roasts, etc. I use mine all the time. I've amazed myself with how much I can cook in that small space and it holds a nice even temperature. Here are some of the things I cook in it:
Homemade pizza
Roasted split chicken breast on the bone (usually 3-4 at a time)
Pork roast
Butternut Squash
Roasted veggies
Quiche
Brownies
and on and on and on....
