Nutone medicine cabinet quality?
Comments (8)Does anyone know if Nutone and Broan are one and the same? I saw 2 Broan med cabs surface mounted side by side, opening in the middle w/all interior mirrors in a showroom and the quality was great, very sturdy. This is the configuration I am after since I like to check out the back view of hair. I have also checked out the same type cabinets in Home Depot (glacier bay) and the quality is nowhere near the same. Nutone has the cabinet in a stainless steel finish which I would like, but Broan only seems to have a white finish (will do recessed mount). I'm just curious whether the quality is the same whether it's Nutone or Broan....See MorePlease don't make me buy Pottery Barn!
Comments (15)The Pottery Barn system (work table top, lateral file cabinet, 2 3-drawer file cabinets) I need would cost $1500 - there's gotta be a way to either get it cheaper or get better quality for that kinda money! ******* Looking for higher quality/custom built for less money? That's a bit like looking for the Mercedes S-Class at the Toyota Camry price. Its just not going to happen. A recurring theme here on this forum is "More for Less" and I can tell you that 99.99 % of the time thats an impossibility. Here we are looking at a mass-produced (as in thousands of units) combination done by a mass marketer, made in China (where the hourly rate is .50 per hour) made of composite woods and fibers. Realistically the price is beat down as far as you are ever going to get it. This is what the American consumer has been demanding and Pottery Barn has delivered it to you. Custom built for that kind of money? Raw material alone would almost come to $ 1,500 in solid hardwoods that are stain grade, finishing material, hardware for slides, etc. A well-made custom-built unit is going to be closer to $ 5,000, regardless of what part of the country you are in. Comments (4)My husband and I loved the Printer's collection however our local PB had 1 piece in the store that we got to see THANKFULLY, and it was very poorly made. It looked really cheap. We ended up buying the Benchwright cabinet instead because it was much sturdier and it is beautiful!...See MoreDon't buy pottery barn hardware!!!!
Comments (22)Thanks Bee some very sage, calm advice. I have calmed down a bit and can see that I need to cross that bridge when I get there. Hopefully never!! I had never thought about using an auto body shop to chrome plate the latches. A good idea, but do they do that? My latches are polished nickel and while the difference is slight they are different. I have chrome faucets in the kitchen and don't mind the difference so food for thought. Thanks for the suggestions. Pottery Barn did contact me. I gave them my phone and email but they chose to do it via email. I would have preferred a personal phone conversation. They of course apologized without ever suggesting that they made any error or that their marketing needs any adjustment. They offered me $50. I have not responded yet but will likely ask them to still explain why I was told my order was available for "immediate shipping". A large company such as theirs must have ability to keep track of stock electronically. Also, I will probably take the money but may just donate the gift certificate to my school for the raffle baskets at the Spring Fair. I am presently boycotting purchases from them. Can't say I may not purchase some bedding or knick knack in the future but definitely NOT hardware or anything I may need to replace with an exact or similar copy....See Moreigloochic
