with TONS of party stuph!! The little ladies party is tomorrow and I think it is all under control (sort of)

Apparently, the mineral oil used with R12 doesn't mix with R134a and additionally provides a sealing effect on non-barrier type hoses so that the R134a doesn't leak through them. On some cars the clutch cycling pressure switch may need to be adjusted for R134a. I had my 1988 Ford Mustang 5.0 converted to R134a. Besides changing the fittings and installing a Smart VOV (which was my idea, my mechanic had never used them before), everything else is all original. The Smart VOV is a replacement orifice tube that self-adjusts for operating pressures and provides performance similar to a TXV system. It's supposed to provide colder air at idle with and reduce the load on the compressor. It was $20 at NAPA so it wasn't a big expense. I have no idea how much it helped compared to a standard orifice, but my mechanic was impressed. Anyway, all of that was about 4 years ago and the AC still works fine.

Hi Paintingfool. I've been lurking here for a while & just had to register so I could post on this thread. Paintingfool, I FEEL your pain!!!! I mean literally! Almost 30 years ago I had a terrible bout with kidney stones. At the time I was a hairdresser working everyday in the shop. I never knew when the "pain" would hit, but when it did, it floored me. Naive and young, I had no idea that the reason my urine (sorry if this is too gross) was brown was because my kidney was bleeding from the stone. (I thought I was drinking too much Coke) I asked my gynecologist during a regular checkup what he thought the "pain" could be & he said I was just ovulating! So, to make a long story short, I refused to go to a doctor when these attacks would hit. And I'm sure YOU know what kind of pain I'm talking about. I had had 2 large babies & believe me 24 hours of labor didn't even come close to this pain. After keeping my poor husband up all night & becoming sick on a ladies trip, he (my husband) called off work & MADE me go to a doctor. Well....he (a general practitioner) diagnosed me with iritable colon & treated me for the next 6 weeks. (never even took a "collection" at any dr. visit) Finally, after a rather bae attack & going back to that dr., he took a urine sample. I'm telling you, I can still remember how white his face was when he came into the examing room! He sent me right then to a urologist who after tests found a stone the size of a half dollar. He thought that it had probably been there around 7 years! (I have a very high pain threshold). Needless to say, I ended up having a 6 hour surgery which required me to be literally cut in half. End of story? No....the very next year I started having the pain again. I rushed right to the doctor who after a routine KUB xray came in & gently took my hand to inform me that another large stone had formed. I couldn't believe it!!!! My sister was getting married the next week & I was not only the matron of honor, but I was baking the cake & my son was the ring bearer! It was a large wedding, so I went on those noce strong meds that you were talking about & made it through. The second surgery didn't go so well. He said that my kidney had become calcified & he wasn't sure if it would function again. I went home 2 weeks later with a nefrostomy (sic) tube & bag & thanked God he created us with 2 kidneys! :-) As it was, I ended up back in the hospital with a staff infection & was finally released on Thanksgiving day. By Christmas my kidney had started back up & he was able to remove the tube. Once I was all healed up, my doctor sent me to Michael Reese Hospital's Renal Center in Chicago to have a complete study made. It was concluded that my stones were calcium oxalate & I ended up with 2 new meds that I am still taking every day religiously, and a brand new lists of foods to avoid. I was also told to drink a gallon of water a day. (that's twice as much as a normal person should drink). He said that because I am an active somewhat hyper person, I get wrapped up in activities (at that time it was styling hair & decorating cakes) that I don't get hydrated enough to keep the kidneys washed out. Now it is painting, just like you.....which is why I went into this LONG and probably boring story. From one artist to another (who has experienced what you have ;-) ), I can't stress enough to always keep a bottle of water beside the paint & brushes.....and I don't mean to rinse the brushes with! LOL Drink! Drink! Drink! Sorry if I bored anyone. I just had to give you my support.

Rob, great to see you! Your life sounds full, hectic, but gratifying. I second everyone's kudos in the mom department for you! We seem to have a lot in common. I'm a researcher/writer/editor/teacher/historian by profession (it's so hard to explain what I do, haha!). And music is a HUGE part of my life. I worked for 12 years as a professional musician before going back to college to do whatever it is I do now. My parents were so supportive of me and my music growing up. I didn't realize until I was at least in my 30's how exceptional they were. I cannot remember one single time them asking me to stop practicing or even goofing off with my friends on the piano, drums, guitar, trumpet, whatever...and I didn't know for a long time that other kids' parents weren't like that. Lass--we are lucky here in Washington (state) to have several excellent writing grants available to us. Think positive! If you don't get it this year, write and ask them how you could strengthen your writing to be competitive for next year. Then follow up and apply again! Also, check out Jack Straw. It's an amazing fellowship where they have you share your work on NPR and other venues. IIRC, the deadline is usually in October. And thanks for the encouragement! I'm celebrating small successes. If I do a little each day, it will eventually get done. :-) I'mhappy--have you tried opening your printer on your hard drive and making sure it's properly installed? Sometimes a printer can go offline even after it's been fine before. One easy check would be to uninstall it from your computer and then reinstall it. llucy-- I'm glad things are OK with your mom, but sad that you have been experiencing anxiety. I don't have first hand experience with that, but definitely second hand, as my daughter Joy has a lot of anxiety issues and full on panic attacks. I understand how frightening it must be. You're in my prayers. Steph--so very sorry you've been sick!! This heat sure doesn't help! I know you feel internal pressure to get stuff done every day, but remember your health is job #1 and getting the rest you need to get better IS doing something! Laundry and dishes aren't going anywhere. They'll wait until you're feeling up to it. :-) Audrey--that cake looks amazing, just like your name, lol! I swear if I didn't have diabetes I'd bake, then eat, that entire cake, hahaha! murraysmom--how cool is it that you have such wonderful friends to vacation with!! That sounds delightful!! And YAY for recycling! Shades, if you ever line your entire yard with empty wine bottles, I'm driving over the state line to have a serious chat with you, hahaha!! ;-) Schoolhouse, let us know if you try the tea again and how it turns out. Maybe it was just something different about your digestive system at the time and it will go down like it's supposed to now.

The car I own now, a 2013 Hyundai Elantra, is the only car I have ever named. My previous car was also an Elantra. In 2013, on my way home from on the freeway, a sedan three cars ahead of me slammed on the brakes and the o vehicles ahead of me did the same, as did I. But to make sure I didn't rear-end the pickup in front of me, I also pulled toward the shoulder. I would have been fine, except the gal behind me (she said later that she was fiddling with her radio) drifted right, hit my car and sent me over a 300 foot embankment. My car flipped onto its roof and slid all the way down the embankment, back end first. The rear window shattered and my car became a giant shovel, hitting the back of my head with lots of dirt. At the bottom she flipped over again, landing right side up. Scary as Hell! Amazingly, I had some scratches, a few bruises and whiplash. I walked up the embankment with the help of one of the sweet men who came to my immediate aid. When I got my new car, I chose another Elantra. I figured the safety features were sufficient because I lived through the incident. Sorry for the long story, but the reason I named my new car "Helen"? My previous car took me to Hell n' back and if the need arises, I hope this one will too!

as my 5 year old diva-granddaughter says "Oh my WORD"....it was fun!!! I have a Buick Rendezvous, and it was loaded to the TOP with food and "things". I even had one bag of last minute stuff squeezed between my seat and the door....
Everything turned out beautifully and the only thing I forgot was one set of salt and pepper shakers. At the last minute (Friday night) we added another table, so had to scramble for decos for it. I'm so glad we did though...we had a full house!
I will give you a link as soon as DD gets the pictures sorted and loaded.
Thank you ALL for your help, ideas, and being a great sounding board!!!

"Oh my WORD" is exactly what I say too! And I don't think I'm a diva! LOL Really looking forward to seeing more pics. Love the cat in the cage with the birdie outside (must find a cat for one of my cages), the mosaic birdhouse, the license plate birdhouse, and the chick feeder with candy corn. Glad everything turned out well and please *rest* on your laurels for awhile to recover. Ya really done good, Girl!

Jaybird, every table looked so pretty and interesting--much better than if they were all alike! You must be dead tired from putting all that together--but proud that it turned out so well also. Loved your hose wreath, I've got to make one of those--I even have a short hose just waiting to be used. ;o) The dishes with the birds and verses are wonderful--tell us more about them okay? Your DH did a great job on the birdhouse, and it was neat that you used the rooster your Dad had made. Fun to see all the pictures, thanks so much for sharing. Luvs

It has all been fun!! I'm laughing because everyone on the blog thinks that DD did the planning and work....my tootsies and my tired brain beg to differ :^) She is the photographer, the candy nest maker and the moral supporter.
The dishes were all paper..I hunted the internet OVER to find the right kinds of paper goods to match bird houses and decos that I already had. The beautiful plates with the Bible verse came from Hobby Lobby...they were sold at Easter :^) If you noticed that two tables had the same kind of plates, it was because we added a table on Friday night and I had extras of those paper goods.
The china mosaic bird house was made by Penny Carlson (in fact it is in her blog header). I have placed her link below. She made it from dishes and items I requested as well as a couple of things that I sent to her to use. She is a true artist.

Goodness gracious, you did your yearly quota of tablescapes all in one day. The paper goods were really a find. You did a lovely job on everything, I can't even pic my favorite.

That looks like a lot of packing up to do! You must be exhausted.

AMEN on the packing up....I'm in the process of unpacking and putting away now...the house looks like a bomb went off in it...yikes!!!

Love it!!
Every table was so different and you didn't miss any detail, right down to the candy corn in the chick feeder.
The bird nest cookies were darling.
I liked the floral and the toile tables the best, but they were all great.
Kudos to you for all your hard work and effort.
I'm sure all the ladies were amazed by what you did.
Your DD also did a great job with the photos.
