Need help please with master bath design

Hi all, I'm finally getting serious about renovating my master bath which is about 7' x 14'. My plan is for the shower to be at the end of the room and doorless and I'm wondering if my plan on the layout will work. I'm not a designer and it's hard for me to actually envision the end product. Could you please take a look at my (horrible) drawing of the plan and give me your opinion on the layout and also the size of the shower. I'm wondering if it's too big but don't really know any other place to put it.

Look for Cambrian Black and see if you like it better. It has a little more character to it than AB. I have marble in my kitchen, but like you, I'm not sure if I want it in the bathroom. My cultured marble has stained enough to turn me off, but the real thing isn't stained. Etching is an uncertainty in the bathroom for me. With your tub and tile, I do like the idea of keeping the choices black and white -- but I have always loved that vintage B/W bath look. IF you don't find a granite or marble you love, don't miss some of the new marble look alikes that have been coming out recently. I saw Silestone's and others on this forum have been talking about Ceasarstone and maybe another one. They have come a long way and are probably worth considering. I know I am. I like the idea of different mirrors and I've seen his and hers that are different on different walls, but generally not on the same wall. I am a right/left brain person so I do things both ways, but I generally try to make them make sense to other people. Now, in your bathroom, most folks will never see it, so who cares if it makes others cock their heads. Easy enough to change out a mirror or two when it's time to move. Meanwhile, you are doing this for you. The ones you have picked are well balanced, so good job there.

Hi mama goose, Thank you very much for your help! I appreciate it! This is going to be a 4th bedroom in the house, no tub needed just a walking in shower, would be nice to have the shower and the seat within the shower. Good point, about the positioning, I imagine mainly the toilet for it to be again the LR wall, in the diagram it's just against the wall for the living room, I would imagine ideally, the shower and the toilet should be on the L/R wall, or if it's to many issues spend extra money and move the bathroom to t he corner away from the living room? About interference between bathroom and bedroom doors, the bedroom door could open toward the living room instead of toward the bedroom (which I'm guessing is not good design?). Pull out storage for the bathroom sounds great! Thank you

As it's pictured, this is an awkward bathroom. I don't see a shower fitting into this corner -- I think you've gotta start from scratch and re-design this whole thing: - I never like toilet-in-a-closet designs; note that this one is about the same size as a public toilet stall -- those things aren't comfortable. The issue here is that when the toilet door is left open (which will be often), it blocks your main entrance to the bathroom. - The closet door in the center is preventing you from putting the shower on one side of the bathroom, which would be the most logical choice. My best stab at it -- and I don't think it's 'specially good: This does place the sink, the most-used item in the bathroom, immediately by the door. It tucks the toilet behind a wall, meaning it's hidden from view but it removes the problem of the conflicting doors and gives you more room for comfort. The shower is quite large, and the door is out of the way. And you're left with enough space for a wide linen closet adjacent to the shower. By moving the closet door a bit to the side, the shower fits in a more logical spot (more logical than the NE corner). Another thought -- simplify and reduce the space, allowing for a larger closet, yet you still have all the pieces you need:

I''d change the patio door to a window in a single heartbeat. Or eliminate it. Use that wall for the bed. Your "wishes" are exceeding what the footprint will allow. Move the bath entry to center on the bath window and bench. You will have the IDENTICAL amount o useful inches on bed wall, ( more if you reverse the entry door swing, ) and a direct route for both of you into the bath.............or not) Yes, it makes a bit longer walk to the closet in the middle of the day....ASSUMING THE BATH LOOKS LIKE below..........and your bed on on the far opposite wall, change door to window. . You can't have everything : ) A bank of linen drawers in place of the left side vanity will still put the focus ON your little window seat, and give you really good storage. Pop a beautiful mirror over and expand the light even more, while also "repeating" the mirror on the now right side vanity. It need not be perfectly symmetrical to be lovely and useful, especially for the long term. A trip around the bed, and bumping walls to get to a toilet......will render the cute little bench, not very cute when you hear the yelp and cussing in the middle of the night.

Is there enough space between, what I am assuming is the tub and the vanity? Even using narrow fixtures, it would seem too tight to be comfortable using the vanity.

Ok, I'm very noncomputer savvy but am trying to post a better pic. Cori25, the clawfoot tub is 30" wide and the vanity is 24.5" wide. Since the the room is ~7feet across, that should leave about 28" as a walkthrough between the tub and vanity which is about what I have now. It's something I'm really worried about but I don't know another good way to design the layout since the room is a rectangle. I can shorten the shower and push the tub up next to it and put the toilet where the tub is set to go....do you think that would work better? The door is basically right next to the where the tall cabinet is (not centered on the wall).

Go with an 18" deep vanity instead of a 24 1/2" deep vanity.

I'll try to find one. I did see a gorgeous (and very expensive) vanity from Restoration hardware that was 22" deep which would help. I think every inch will count. Does any think the shower (which will by about 7' x 4' with a bench in the back taking up about 20")is too long? There will only be one showerhead opposite the wall with the bench.

Kitchen cabinet manufacturers also make bathroom cabinets in 18" deep versions.

Bertch makes 18" deep vanities. We had a similar situation when we chose to change our pedastal sink to a double vanity directly across from the shower. Now that it's done we probably could have done a standard vanity but we went with the 18" just in case and it looks great!

Thanks...I checked out the Bertch website but they don't seem to have the style I'm looking for. Mimi78, can I ask the walkthrough width you have now? Is 29 inches too narrow for a walk through between clawfoot tub and vanity?
