Help with Master Bath Renovation/Design
Comments (3)I have seen pictures of showers with windows, so it is possible, although that will depend on your preference for privacy/what is outside and getting a really good window, installed very well. I think a lot of people are leary of leaks or in areas where privacy is a concern, so you don't see that many. Could you replace the tub with freestanding, take out the dividing wall and put a 4'x5' shower where the existing shower/closet are? Or keep tub location (switch to freestanding), put shower where toilet is now and toilet where shower/closet it now (turned 90 degrees so tank is next to bottom wall)...See MoreHelp with my master bath renovation design
Comments (7)Hi, I just designed my new home and my master bath has a walk-in shower and we don't use a door of anykind. I love it. If your plan was mine I would consider a few changes. It would then look much like mine. Proposed changes: 1) Put your shower entry across from stool. I don't think you'll want it right by the entry. Mine is right across from the stool. 2) Put fan/heater/light fairly close to the opening. 3) Put a shower light in 4)I would consider eliminating the half walls and put a tower of storage cab. on each side of vanity. I went with just one sink because we never seem to have to be in at sink at same time and if we do we share!! I store all my towels, etc. in them. I put an outlet in each and that is where the hair blower, etc. can be plugged in behind the scenes and works out so nice. Code also required one on the outside. 5) I also put a corner little bench in mine for shaving legs, etc. Put some little corner shelves in as well with tiles cut diagonally. You could easily do that same thing. I also put a smaller soaker tub in. Is your closet for linens or clothes? I put my walk-in closet as a separate room. I am very happy with how it turned out. Not a designer, (but have had many positive comments) in my next life!! Good luck on your adventure!...See MoreHelp with tile/design for master bath remodel
Comments (10)If you like gray, use the technical aspects of the above tile layouts as a blueprint, and use a light gray tile with a black liner and cap for the details. Maybe find a chiclet or hex floor in grays with a bit of green, or all green. Green with gray can be tricky though. I’m not feeling the encaustic tile look at all. It’s much too trendy for a Victorian. Especially how you show it. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Merola-Tile-Metro-Hex-Matte-Light-Green-10-1-4-in-x-11-3-4-in-x-5-mm-Porcelain-Mosaic-Tile-8-56-sq-ft-case-FXLM1HMG/203784114 https://www.homedepot.com/p/Merola-Tile-Hudson-Penny-Round-Mint-Green-12-in-x-12-5-8-in-x-5-mm-Porcelain-Mosaic-Tile-FKOMPR32/300133743 Something faux encaustic in a more classic, simple shape, for the floor would work better than as an accent wall in the shower. I realize that his is real encaustic, but there are porcelain lookalikes. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Villa-Lagoon-Tile-Spark-C-May-8-in-x-9-in-Cement-Handmade-Floor-and-Wall-Tile-SB20RH16-SPAR3-S2-PS/306640859...See MoreDesigning master bath, is shower/tub combo good enough?
Comments (22)The shower footprint room in even a 36” wide tub is pretty small. Much smaller than in a 36” shower. A shower only is a much nicer experience, where you don’t brush elbows against walls, or have your bum bump a curtain or door when bending over to wash your toes. It is also less slippery, and safer. If I were the husband in this situation, I would not be happy that I was being reduced to a second class showering experience in my home. He may not know it, but that is what would be the result. It would be a second class tub experience for you as well. If you like a tub, you are probably pretty frustrated with how shallow they can be, and how little of your body gets submerged. That is the big drawback of a tub shower. It has to be shallow enough to step over to use as a shower. A genuine deep soaking tub can fix that. One with a deck surround can give you a place for your towels, books, glass of wine, etc. It improves the experience for you. Settling for less will happen enough in a build. I‘m not saying build a owner’s bath larger than your family room with his and her complete separate masters. But any owner’s bath that does not cater to each user’s preferences, is not a owner’s bath for a custom home. Even entry level new build tract homes have separate tubs and showers for the main bath. Because it is expected for the main bath....See MoreAnglophilia
