cleaning air ducts
Comments (2)All furnace manufacturers recommend, and state in the owners manuals, that you have your furnace cleaned and inspected on an annual basis. This is important for furnace reliability and for safety reasons. I have not seen any manufacturer of furnaces state that it is important to have the ducts cleaned. Some people prefer to have their ducts cleaned for their peace of mind but an air cleaner added to your furnace may do more good than just cleaning the ducts. I have been in the heating business for 21 years and have never had my ducts cleaned, but I do have a whole house air cleaner attached. P.S. for the duct cleaning guys - There is nothing wrong with duct cleaning but I also do not worry about the tiny mite monsters lurking in the hidden recesses ready to eat me alive. Comments (2)I tried that. I got these light wieght plastic things that fit over the registers and redirect the air. The problem is that it is stll under the drapes and when I open or close the drapes, it pushes the diverters away. The drapes come to the floor. I really don't mind moving them, if that's what's best for heating the room. I just want to make sure that it isn't a mistake, before I have them moved....See MoreIs air duct cleaning necessary?
Comments (7)My comment above makes no sense because it was a response to a post that has been removed. I was challenging a response of "Pro" Flame Heating Cooling & Electrical, who had said more or less the following words I found on their website: "Without proper air duct cleaning and maintenance, these contaminants can collect in your air ducts and get back into the air you breathe, which can irritate allergies, asthma, sinuses, and spread cold and flu-causing viruses." Sorry, this is nonsense. Dust in very dirty ducts, sure. Viruses, no....See MoreMove Air Duct Work in Closet?
Comments (6)Is the new framing along the exterior walls built in front of an existing, finished exterior wall? Will those open exterior wall stud bays be insulated? I would think the 10" flex duct could transition into square duct above the closet ceiling, then run inside the stud bays, then transition back to flex beneath the floor. Idk which way the floor joists run but it seems doable either direction. This looks like it was just run whichever way was easiest for the installer and in the absence of a plan. It happens, can certainly be tightened up...See Moretry_hard
