Those dishes are very pretty, I like that shade of pink.
I'm not quite sure I'm buying into that luscious apple tart NOT being fattening. I'm with Luvs on calories in your photos. I sure love your cooking, without tasting a bite!!

Again, Kathleen, so wonderful that you share your table setting of the day...I am starting to believe you REALLY do set the table nice for EVERY dinner but then the meals you cook are worthy of a pretty table. I love those pink plates and the glow from the candle not to mention the dessert make the setting so inviting! Great job again!

I have a Liebherr All-Fridge and Gaggenau All-Freezer. The Liebherr has nice bins and drawers but not the quality of Gaggenau-Thermador-Bosch(BSH) built-ins.The mechanicals on the Liebherr are as good and efficient as anything out there and better than most. Doors on the BSH have a heavy or some might say luxurious feel. Liebherr has light weight doors or some might say cheap/or cheezy feeling. The bio-fresh safes work as well as anything out there. Thermador DW are rebadged mid-upper end Bosch units. For the price you would think you got top-of-the-line Bosch units but,alas,you don't. If getting the Miele I would get at least the Crystal because that has the built-in water softner.Unless of course you have really soft water in your area. Both KA and Thermador have had electric oven trouble in the immediate past.Both claim issues have been resolved. Not too many buyers on this forum to confirm issues resolved. I would look at Electrolux wall ovens if looking at upper mid class or Wolf/Gaggenau if looking at top end. The Wolf /Gaggenau microwaves are seperate units but you could just buy the Sharp microwave drawer and place it underneath the wall oven and save some money. Definetly take Bluestar cooktop/rangetop over Thermador/Wolf.

I've missed seeing you and your beautiful tablescapes (& food!) around here lately, Kathleen. Those coffee cakes look and sound delicious! I've copied the recipe to make the cherry one myself. Coming from Michigan, I'm a huge cherry lover. IMO, the cherries popping out may have been an accident, but they make the end product look absolutely luscious! Hello Gabi - I have wanted to reply, but hadn't had a moment to get the picture uploaded! My son and I attend a Community Ed "class" which sponsors gingergbread house making! This is his third year. His houses have lasted many months...of course we don't eat them, but he loves to look at them. They have the houses already put together for us, individual bowls of icing, and then a buffet line of candies and each child goes through the line and chooses what they want to use to decorate their house and "property"! They can go back for seconds too! Each child also has a tube of NECCO wafers. I think the key is to have everything all lined out ahead of time. We did buy a kit of cookie cutters for each piece of a house that also work well and have done our own, but going to the class is a lot easier and not as expensive (i.e. left over candy that we all don't need to eat!). I think it's unproductive (not to mention rather sick) to envision the relationship between father and daughter as in any way akin to a relationship between he and "another woman", or even to think in terms of who is "top" or "bottom" on any totem pole. Those things simply are not comparable. I can understand that an SP ---because of their position as the romantic partner of the parent in question--- may tend to view anything or anyone that interferes or comes between or undermines as just as threatening to their partnership as a competing romantic interest. But to really BUY INTO that idea twists and distorts some of these quite common childhood behavioral, disciplinary and yes, expected jealousy issues (on both sides) into something that they're not, something much more sick and intense. And it's simply not the way either the parent or child in question experiences their relationship UNLESS the parent is sexually abusing their child (and sometimes if the child has been sexually abused by someone else). Sadly, that sometimes happens, but unless there is any evidence to believe that, you can be reasonably assured that natural incest taboos tend to prevent parent and child from having or wanting the sort of parallel "partnership" you may think you perceive. It's simply not a competition of that sort. It may be a competition for time and attention and importance, but it's not of the same kind as a romantic love triangle. I believe that this tendency of adults to impose adult desires on children (and other adults) is the reason why some of these common everyday child-rearing problems become so blown out of proportion, and many times so deeply bitter and even unresolvable, especially in blended families. So I say definitely address the basic discipline, manners and expectations issues fully and firmly. Because that's what they are. SD, like all of us, needs to learn how to get by in the world and that means learning some basic manners and rules. She also likely has adjustment issues and probably has resentment for having to share her time with her father, especially after living through the divorce of her parents. That in no way automatically implies that SD wishes to be her father's "partner" or even that she wishes to be "top" on the totem pole, so don't let a presumption of such an attitude on her part lead to a distorted version of that same attitude on your part. SD is likely acting like she wants to be the "top" or "only" person in her Dad's life as an overcompensation from fear (based on divorce) that she will have NO place in his life. This is expected and common, as is some of the acting out. She needs to have it drilled in her head that she is just AS important in his life as ever, and that she is no LESS nor MORE important than you are. Hence she will get nowhere by thinking in terms of "top"/"bottom", who "stays" or who "goes", and neither will you. Don't let yourself be tempted to view it as a competition with sicker overtones than really exist. SD has her specific needs regarding her father, and you have your specific needs regarding the same man, but they are not the same issues. Thus there need not be any automatically adversarial relationship between you and SD. That is key to understanding how to resolve issues in any family, especially blended families. As long as any one person perceives a directly adversarial relationship, it will always imply that a "win" for one is a "loss" for another, and that there is a "top" and a "bottom". That means that there will never be a time when all parties are happy; hence there will always be conflict. When you realize that there's no inherent adversarial relationship and that everyone's needs can be met because they're *different* needs, it eliminates conflict. Just keep reminding yourself and SD are NOT fighting for the exact same things. Her behavior is only a direct threat to you if you perceive and allow it to be.

Hi Kathleen...I'm here! That looks sooooo good!! Yes, it is very quiet here tonight. A good time to have a cup of tea and one of those cupcakes...or banana bread....or a piece of cake. Oh shoot, maybe just sample all of them! :)

My goodness, Kathleen, you are just a cooking/baking Diva. And a very good one too from the looks of all your delicious food pics. ;o)

I've always liked your everyday dishes, the colorful fruit just looks so pretty. And those blue placemats really show it off nicely. It looks like you could also use green or yellow placemats with it too. Nice to have something so versatile.

I bought four new plates today and have ideas running through my head on what to use with them for a tablescape. Would help if DH were gone for a few hours so I could just PLAY with it! LOL (He asks too many questions and makes too many comments.) ;o)

I've got a dentist and hair appt. tomorrow, and Dr. appt. and friend coming Wed., so probably can't do anything until Thurs. or Fri.

Love the black and white look...I have some very similar black & white plates but would love to find the plain black plates you have. The previous banana creations and tonight's menu all look delicious as usual! Thanks for sharing!

Kathleen, I'm bowled over! Your DH is indeed a lucky man and grumble or not that's just an act -- he has to know he's lucky and enjoy all your lovely presentations. Your food also looks SOOO mouth-watering!

I'm perplexed. You keep saying you got these Pfaltzgraff plates for pennies. I dunno, so I looked it up and the first thing I clicked on talked about dinnerware on sale for $119. What am I missing?

DD, check Pier One if you have it..beware though, black plates show every knife mark. These were cheap, so I don't care but.....

Oceanna, there is a clearance center 45 min from me. There you never know what you will get! Last time I got white bowls for 30 cents!! Got 8 for my dil to use with the dishes I got her there..although the brand on them is Farberware, Pfaltzg bought out Farberware,,,
I paid 30 dollars for service for 12...here they are..

I am an addicted bargain hunter. Also the last time I got blue oval bowls marked to 1 dollar... You can see it in this pic...the pitcher in the pic was 96 cents! all at the clearance center, which is separate from the outlet..better prices!

Did you see these, Oceanna, they are a little funky, but for 96 cents for the whole placesetting, how could I NOT buy a few..(6)

Yellow tonight..
And grilled steak with gorgonzola sauce, onions, oven fries corn and brocc.

No dinner tomorrow going out for the day..maybe some bargains though! lol

These took up alot of my time today. I sent for this cookie cutter from Germany. It comes with letters and you can put names on the cookies. Well, first everything is in German and recipe in grams..so I had to google everything to translate. The dough was hard to work with, and you can hardly read the name. I have some cooking forum friends who ordered it too, so I am hoping they will guide me! They haven't tried it yet. It was difficult to work with, the letters are itty bitty!
These say Lily and Michael..hard to read..

Kathleen, love seeing all your dishes, placemats and pretty napkins. You are getting allot of mileage out of your centerpiece too--it goes well with everything. The dishes you bought for your DIL are such a pretty pattern, I'll bet she is enjoying them.

Cute cookie cutter and I'm sure the kids will love seeing their names on them. Maybe you can find a cookie dough that will be easier to work with.

Your food looks delicious as always. Glad I've already had dinner again before I saw them! ;o)

The steak looks amazing! What cut do you generally buy? Do you marianate it first?

LOVE the setting -- better than the Beltline!! (thats a street in Dallas (well -- actually it is in Addison! LOL!) It has more restaurants per capita than anywhere else in the U.S. ...... and trust me --- YOUR food and settings are far better than any I've seen on the Beltline!

While I particularly love your pink plates, yellow plates and also the red ones... every table setting deserves, in my opinion, 5 stars!

Moreover, I haven't seen a single meal that I won't like to eat! I'm hungry now!!!!

I'm leaving the computer, going to cook steak, fries (Belgian obviously, lol) and tarragon sauce ;-)

Kathleen, I want to come and live at your place...to get meals like you create and have them served in such lovely table settings would be like being on vacation everyday. If your DH doesn't realize how good he's got it, you better let him know!

Don't feel bad about your dreary May day, we just got rid of the snow in our yard over the last couple days and had a lovely sunny day today - warm enough for DH to insure his Harley so we went for a little ride which felt like "Spring is FINALLY here"!!

Well, DH cooked today Mary! He made bread, sauce, meatballs and linguine for dinner. I just did the salad and set the table...And I wish you could all come over..I love to feed people!

Wow! Kathleen you are amazing! You are posting new pics faster than I can respond. LOL First off, I really love this red and white checked tablecloth and your napkin rings are just the perfect touch with it. And that cute little polka dot bowl is so cute. Love it. Oh, how I'd love a bowl of that linguine--not on my diet, but it looks soooo yummy!

The salad with the teriyaki chicken looks yummy too--and your presentation of it together looks so good. (I eat lots of chicken and salad.) ;o)

Bet those birds are wondering where the sun went! Poor things. What a gorgeous view there, the two homes I can see look beautiful.

Oh....another delicious meal! The bread looks the perfect shade of brown. I used to bake bread in a glass round tube and it always turned out good, but then got so I didn't use it as much and sold it in my garage sale...now I want it back! :) Pasta looks delicious also and your checked tablecloth and accessories are perfect.

Creating, it is a tapered square bowl from Pfaltzgraff. Put some rice in and tamp down with the bottom of a glass...

I haven't made this in ages...it was cold yesterday so a perfect day for it.. beef short ribs

Luvs, I did them in the oven, for about 3 hours covered. I didn't think of my crock pot. I keep it in the basement, and the only thing I have made in it is Pulled Pork. I should try other things...never think of it!
Your DH won't eat any kind of ribs??? I love them, dh too..son, not so much!

No, he will eat ribs, just not the onions which I just love, and he even hates the smell of them! I have to settle for Onion powder instead of onions for flavor. However, when I make steak, I remove his first since he likes it rare, then add onions and mushrooms while mine continues to cook. Told him that is the one time he will just have to tolerate the smell of the onions because I love my steak that way!

I mostly use my crock pot in the Winter months. A friend on the painting forum gave me a couple of good chicken recipes for it. I also use it when I cook a roast for shredded beef sandwiches. Like to do that for family potlucks. I need to use mine more also.

LOL, Luvs, my dad wouldn't eat a thing an onion touched! I thought that was a good idea...later I realized how good they are, and soooo low calorie. Now I love them,
But I understand your predicament! My mom struggled keeping onions out of everything!

My DH won't touch onions and hates the smell. My dad, who lives with us, LOVES onions. sigh.
My DH likes things with cheese, and loves pasta. My dad won't touch either. bigger sigh.

I often feel like a short order cook around here. Its hard to feed those two together sometimes. LOL.
