Crown Moulding in a bathroom...

Watcha think? Does it look o.k.?

I have crown thru out my whole house, and am thinking of putting it up in the master bath.

Anyone have pics they would like to share??

As long as it fits inot the style and scale of the room and house, why not?

We have smaller crown in our powder and master bath. I don't know the name of the type, but they are similar in style. It looks great in the powder room and since we have crown everywhere else on the main floor except the laundry, it made sense to me. I could have lived with or without it in the master since most of the upstairs rooms do not have crown, but my husband really wanted it. He wants to add it to all the bedrooms as we repaint each one. I think if you want it and the size is in scale to the height of the room, then I'd go for it.

That's a beautiful ceiling. A couple I know bought a tract house in the development one over from mine. From the research I've done, the homes in their development were about $5000 more than the ones in my neighborhood (in the late 1950's), which was quite a bit of money back then. The homes have a little more sq. ft, little bigger yard and some nicer details. What caught my eye when I first saw the place was the rather simple (in detail) but larger crown moulding in the combined living room/formal dining room. It looks something like the below picture, although a little wider and they have regular, small, stained oak trim around the doorways. My friends' crown 'trim' was on-site fabricated in plaster when the house was built. Talk about a level of craftsmanship that is very rare these days. Wow, I would be pleasantly surprised to see that, not disappointed. I think that shows an excellent builder who has the wherewithal to give that type of attention to a small room. I have crown in two of my bathrooms (master bath not yet) and the smallest being 5x8 and we deliberately added it years after it was built. I think after it's all done you will see how moulding adds to the finished look of any room.

For a heavily trimmed room, I do prefer a painted wood baseboard that flows with the door/window casing and the ceiling crown. For paint-grade trim I use poplar, primed all sides, and a semi-gloss paint. Poplar mills well, holds a crisp edge, and takes paint well. My personal preference. You can do marble base, but an all marble wall-baseboard-floor can sometimes look bottom heavy. Depends on what's in the room to break it up, or the style of the room. In a modern or minimalist style, all marble might be preferable. In a more traditional room, the wood base might look better. As far as cleaning or durability, in typical residential, the wood-versus-marble base should not be an issue. Both will perform well. If you can look through inspiration photos, you'll probably be drawn to one look more than the other.

Here's ours. We've got just 8' ceilings, but the room is large.

I put it in my bathrooms (they're not done) and in the powder room. It's cheap bling for the bucks :)

Wow, these bathrooms look awesome.

We did a tin ceiling from American Tin Ceilings in our main bath and did the crown that can be ordered with it. It turned out great, but the bathroom is still not 100% done, so I don't have pics yet. But especially for the tin, some sort of moulding is needed.

Sure, you people may all have crown in your bathroms, but do you chair rail like I have in my powder room? LOL I gotta say, it's a very dinky powder room on the first floor which makes the chair rail look that much more comical. We're re-doing the powder room along with the kitchen reno, so the chair rail will be coming out. Honestly, I should take some photos of this horrific space just so that I have evidence that it ever existed :)
