It's been HOT here in So. Calif. the last few days! By hot, I mean over 100 degrees! Much too early for hot hot weather! Anyway, I decided to stay inside and paint a bit--as you know that's one of my most favorite things to do!

I think this design would look really cute on a picnic basket, don't you? I'll probably just put a wire or ribbon hanger on it and use it on my side gate--that's one of my favorite places to decorate for the seasons. Luvs

That's adorable. Your stuff gets cuter all the time. It would be darling on the wooden hinged lid of one of those woven picnic baskets.
Where do you get your ideas?
You're right about the heat. I'm worried they're going to ration water here in our area. My lawn will need all of two days to turn brown!

You know about hydroponic window gardening, don't you, Dorph? Spring is still in full swing up here: tulips are over, it's "snowing" petals from flowering trees, and my lilacs and peonies are going to open any day. We've reached the point where I no longer fear frost, so my peppers, tomatoes, eggplant, tender herbs, and other veggies are all in, as are most of my annuals. And I moved my lemon tree outside for the season yesterday. I stocked up on and have begun applying my favorite sunscreen. 100 SPF, liberally, frequently and religiously applied is about the only thing that keeps me from frying as I set aside layers of clothing. I also decided to put in the hammock as soon as the rains of the next few days are over. It's not yet warm enough for me to hop in a lake, but once it is, I intend to lure Tallulah in after me. She hasn't figured out that she's a water dog yet, and she's left barking in the shallows while Izzy does her daily otter imitation at the dog park and the public hunting grounds we visit regularly. Izzy has been swimming almost daily since the ice broke in March, but I'm not ready to join her just yet. The biggest seasonal transition we've experienced recently is the reopening of our front patio fire pit. This is a nearly nightly gathering spot for friends and neighbors, and we enjoyed breaking it in hard this weekend.

It's true! Good things come to those who are patient, and sometimes to those who aren't LOL!!! Brrejr sent a VERY generous package and my mailman (who knows me all too well) tracked me down at the pool and hand delivered it to me so they wouldn't sit in the heat waiting for me to come home. I am the lucky recipient of: Guardian Angel Pineapple Punch Blue Blazes Blue Arrow Blue Bunting Midwest Magic They are all having a drink in the kitchen and will be lounging there until the heat wave ends here. I don't envy you the snow, golddust. Had enough of that this winter to last a looong time. Since I first posted this it's the same as cyn427 says, where's the refreshing 70 degrees days? We hit 83 today. Sun is setting and it's still 74, feels like a mid-summer evening. Everything is busting open! I am concerned about my hydrangeas (among my favorites). The rarer ones are overwintered in the garage, so if we have a cold snap they can go right back inside. But the ones in the ground are all leafing out like crazy. It's usually mid - late May before I can tell which stems are going to have leaf buds and which died off and I can cut back. Hopefully no cold snap will freeze them, because they're all looking good this year! The other morning I checked peonies, stems were about 2" high max or just coming through. Came home end of day and many were easily at 6", unreal! I'm glad to have it, truly, but have a hunch this means we're headed for a pretty hot summer. As much as I love being outside, I just can't handle working in high humidity and heat anymore.

That is just totally delightful. I love the little bears, bet our friend Kirk would go nuts over this! LOL.

It was 102 here today. I am SO not ready for this kind of heat!!!! But luckily by end of weekend we will drop down to normal of mid 80s. A slight reprieve before H--L hits here full force. If I'm going to get the garage cleaned and organized, I better get busy and soon before it turns into an oven on me.

Luvs, how adorable! "Luv" the bears with the fruit and the cute saying. That sign would look good anywhere! I can't believe it is so hot for you already....DH busted up the last of the snow on our front lawn this morning!

Jeannespines, it's great to see you over here! Hope you are enjoying checking out some of the great pics these gals (and our Jim) post--they are very creative and have some of the prettiest dishes and decorations.

OA, I am so afraid we will have water rationing too. I was so thankful for every rain we had, but wish we could have had more. Strange how some parts of the country get way too much and flood and other places get too little. I was sure shocked when the weather report said we were going to 100 degrees already weren't you? Thanks for looking at my little sign, I'm going to start watching for those picnic type baskets at YS and TS, I think the tops would be fun to paint. I found this design in one of my painting magazines, it's a Laurie Speltz design.

Hi Karen, I hadn't watched the weather map but figured you were hot too. I'm sure we will cool down again soon too--at least I sure hope so! I think these bears are not "manly" enough for our friend Kirk--but he probably would have liked the one I painted on my neighbors metal tub.

DD, I'm sure you are tired of the snow by now, do you get hot during the summer months? We don't usually get this hot until July/August at least. We really had some cold weather for us this year too--never know what to expect I guess. Glad you liked the little sign.

That is the cutest sign..I love it!
It has been raining here for 3 days!!!
My little garden Gnome is wondering if he can get across the moat! :)
Notice the deer have already nibbled the hosta that is just popping out!
I guess no one is ever happy!

Cute plate and great talent! I tried taking up painting once. . . it didn't work out real well!

Thanks for the wishes for relief from the heat--they worked, our temps are back down into the 70's again and we might even get more rain! Yipee!

Kathleen, your flower beds look so neat. What's your secret for keeping the grass out of them? I have mine lined with rocks and the grass still creeps into them! Maybe those deer just think they are helping you with the pruning! ;o)

Susie, Jane and Sharee, thanks for your sweet comments. I just love to look at painted items and I get so excited when I find something I think I can paint--it's another sickness like our dish obsession I think! LOL

Kathleen, you do have such a nice looking flower bed. Like Luvs, I am always fighting grass getting into the beds! And I dont even need a deer to ruin my hostas - I stepped on one when I was trying to get the soaker hose to co-operate! :(

I have just been busy getting ready for my family visiting, and then playing with the baby and now cleaning up and recovering. We had some surprisingly good weather last two weekends so I have gotten most of my spring gardening stuff done.

You guys in california have the best weather for gardening though!
