Yes, the plants are very small and not enough long roots to get water from the bottom, but from my experience the wick suck the water so fast. I use long wick and put in the center of the container. The containers are transparent and I am able to see the soil condition. The small containers with the wicks I use dry so fast. It is an experiment, I have to monitor how fast the soil dry and how many ml of water is it. The picture is after I watered the plant about 20 minutes ago and the glass is just for the photo-taking. I hope you can see the way soil absorb the water. If I watered too much the color of the whole coco coir is changed (means absorbed the water). According to the wetness of the soil I changed coco coir with dry one time to time. For 49 cells propagator without heating is available, it cost about $25.00 without shipping charge. It should be very nice for the beginner like me. I have some kinds of passion of using available materials to serve the purpose:). Such type of practice must be done after I had some experiences. I have been learning container gardening here. As much as I can I have read posts available in the forum. I missed a lot of basic information that's already available here too. What an interesting thread, from long ago with lots of old names. I wonder who's still around? (Not me anymore!). I've wondered about this, accepted that cotton just isn't cotton anymore. I've presumed it's the same way that "100% cotton blue jeans" somehow have stretchy waistbands. Clearly the modern 100% isn't quite what I think of when I think of "100%". So - I've just presumed that all these cottons are processed in some way that affects its absorption and content, even, they just don't have to declare it. But that's just been my speculation, I don't know. Microfiber is not the same. It doesn't absorb the way an old cotton towel does. It could also be the dyes used commercially. If I were to really investigate this, I'd try some "organic" cotton and "organic dyes", to see if this helps. Note that you can buy "shop towels" at Home Despot that are white terry cloth, loose weave, not in any way pretty, but thoroughly absorbant as of days of yore. All these things do matter and there is a big difference between towels I've bought in bundles from Costco (bad absorbers) from some other less boingy towels from who-knows where. So ... I think all these variables matter perhaps?

Hi guys! I am shopping for new bathroom towels and kitchen washcloths and I came across these thread from 8 years ago. I can be of help. Long story short, bathroom towels and anything for the bathroom has the ever present band of decorative pattern that runs across the cloth towards each or one end of the towel/washcloth. Those used for the kitchen (or shop/work towels) does not have that band of decorative pattern. It's just a plain, flat canvas of woven terry and double sewn on the four ends of the cloth. They can also be found in the Kitchen section area were as the bathroom towels and such are displayed in the bathroom section. The garden and tools section also sells a different kind of washcloths different from the bath and kitchen. I just figured these out lately too. Hope it helps! ♥

If there's that much residue then perhaps too much detergent is being used in the wash cycle. And if there are body oil residues then wash water may not be hot enough. We all have our own laundry practices here. I'm not judging. But I would observe that a high quality detergent, hot water and good rinsing should be enough to get towels clean on a regular basis. It feels a bit counter intuitive to me to use chemicals to remove chemicals.
