Coffee/Tea stains on mugs?

Whats a good way to clean this? Vinegar (since its a common coffee pot cleaner)? I have some mugs i love, and they are stained, and would like them nice and white again :) Esp when company comes over, and they are like 'ewww', even tho the mug is clean.. lol.

Bon-Ami or Barkeepers Friend will do the trick, and won't scratch either.

I clean cups two ways--
1) pour about 1 or 2 tablespoons of clorox liquid bleach in the cup and fill with water. Let soak till clean.

2)Also, I have discovered that Cascade electric dishwasher detergent gets tea stains out very well.

Some of you guys had me cracking up... Marlene, your first thought was target practice! LOL. And I thought I knew you well, Girl. Apparently not. ;o) Same with you, Jeanne, for being tempted as well. Caroleena, your Mayor would need sedating? LOL, love it. As for "Wasps, spiders, mosquitoes, snakes and dust"...as pretty as this place is, I have a feeling the owner either doesn't have much problem with them or has a way to take of it. Considering the number of cups, I imagine a lot were 'donated' and rest bought at thrift stores for a quarter each. And over a long period of time. This is some SERIOUS mug collecting. However, if you drink that much coffee, you'd WHIZZ right thru building this. LOL Nona, I bet you could find something neat to do with Bill's mugs! Linda, that's a good idea, but they'd get dirty in my shed!!! LOL It'd be easy to get a three-ring binder and slide the papers for each item into a page protector sleeve. I think I'll do that! My suggestion sorta goes along with Linda's. For anything you buy that might require you to produce the receipt in a few years to prove the warranty, such as a fridge, stereo equipment, stove, what have you, make a photocopy of the receipt to keep with the receipt and all your other paperwork. I don't know how many times I've gone back to reference that receipt and found that the ink is just gone. They're not printed to be archival quality even though you need them to be!

DH has used glass beer mugs for his coffee for years. He likes the large handles and the large capacity, and we hand test them before buying for good balance. We have had no issues with the glass and hot liquids. They do double duty as cold drink mugs as needed. I mostly use local hand thrown mugs, but with a similar capacity and similar handle shape.

I had a walnut island top in my last house. We put coffee mugs down on it all the time. Yes, after a while there were small scratches, but that's a wood countertop. Once every few months or so I'd clean it off and reapply oil and it was good as new. The only thing that caused a ring for me was a sweaty glass of Coke that someone left overnight. I thought we'd oiled it enough to prevent water rings, but it did leave one. After that I sanded it down, reapplied several more coats of oil, and we never had any more problems. If you have wood counters, you have: -A beautiful counterop -A countertop that will get scratches -A countertop that can be revitalized very easily I love walnut!!

I gave the bartenders friend a go, it worked very well!! Thanks for all the great tips, i'll try the bleach next time!!

I have found that while bleach surely can whiten things, it also can give you a chlorine mouth wash when using the now white item. In other words, I don't like the after taste or after smell, even if the appearance is improved.

i showed DH how it cleaned the mugs, then cleaned some old pots that were stained (we aren't the brightest of cooks sometimes) and it had some built-up grease or something on the outside. it didn't take it all off, but i think that after a few washings here and there, it will look good as new. The stuff is great - i'm so glad i asked about it!!

I love using the Mr. Clean eraser for coffee and tea stains. Wipes them right off.

Plain old Soda. Just wet and make into a paste.

I have found that shaking a little baking soda into a damp mug and rubbing it around with my fingertips works wonders! My mother has been doing this for years and it always works.

To help prevent stains after the mugs are cleaned, try using spring water to make your tea. Hard water causes tea to stain faster than anything I know.

Good luck! I'm guessing your mugs will be shining in no time.

vinegar is for breaking down hard water deposits and will do nothing for coffee and tea stains.

You need a chemical (oxigenated bleach or chlorine bleach), or physical (barkeeper's friend or some other cleanser) means.
