We've never figured out a good use for those. kimkatchy - I think precise measurements need to be taken to see if the built in will fit on another wall, and see if a fridge would block opening the cabinets. Last night I re-measured, and this time I get that the fridge wall is shorter than the built-in, but the stove wall is a little longer than the built-in. It's really hard to get into the sink space and get accurate measurements. I'll have to get some help with it. I actually think that the built-in on the stove wall would work better aesthetically. It would just be flipping the kitchen around, really. Over the next couple of weeks I'm going to get a couple of experts in here to do some measurements and tell me whether it would be feasible to move the built-in. Peg board is a good idea and I'm not really sure what kind of hooks are out there either, so I'd have to look into it further. I looked at pegboard today, the very heavy duty ones are kinda spendy for a 4 x 8 sheet. I'd probably go with the 1/8 inch material and reinforce with a 2x4 frame. I had actually considered using wooden doors securred together. I found a bunch of louvered bifold doors today at a local salvage place. (habitat for humanity resale store)and I thought I could attach a shelving track to the doors for adjustable shelves. So where the chairs would go, I could use some type of utility hook screwed into the door. I think even though the space is small that with creative use of space and organization of the items in there, it should work. Keeping in mind that this is a trial run and I can always take a bigger space if need be.

OMG, you have a really high ceiling! Amazing space, and it will be marvelous to go UP with your storage cabs. Hmmm, I can see that the space to the left of the window might not be WIDE enough for all that many upper cabs with doors. And instead of closing in the wall plugs, could you move them up to the spots where the triangular shelves would be? At least that way, you'd have a spot to put a small Bose radio or a clock, or maybe some other small electrical thingy, like the chargers for your cell phone and camera batteries? I'd suggest the same for the other plug beneath the window. Move it up enough that it would not be located behind the window seat or any deep cushion you might place there. You could, if need be, simply take power off of it to put a shaded sconce on the tall pantry cab to the right of that window too. No wall switch, just a button on the sconce itself. And, that high pointy ceiling area there is really dramatic. Putting an uplight on top of the highest cab where you will locate some arty objects, that would be a nice feature. I'd suggest a wall switch on a dimmer for that. If you CAN leave the window molding uncovered, and it is pretty, then try to figure it. But I am puzzled by what kind of molding it is....metal? If it is metal, you probably should leave it, unless you can caulk the cab and window seamline to appear flawless. Have you ever heard about the CAMEL PROJECT? A CAMEL is a HORSE DESIGNED BY COMMITTEE. hehehehe I heard that expression when I was a research librarian many years ago. Don't worry. Brainstorming is good for us all.

How the inside is arranged, in terms of holding the right amount of the right kind of things, is just as important as the size of the fridge. Also, if you don't have room for five jars of sourdough starter (which I have in my fridge), you dry most of them and just keep on. You limit the number of different kinds of mustard that can stay in the fridge, and how much space is devoted to cold beverages (putting that ice machine to work instead). You didn't say how many people or how big the appetites or how you entertain, but, as with all things, you adapt. A lot of people have way more fridge space than they actually need--as in never come close to filling up. Others really do use all their main and pantry fridges and wine chiller and ice machine and snack center fridge and coffee bar fridge to capacity. A good way to judge if you can fit your current lifestyle in a new fridge is to gather a bunch of containers and bottles that are the size and shape of what's in your fridge right after you've bought groceries on a typical day, skipping things you'd rather not see again, like the jar of chocolate sauce that no one has touched in three months (if it won't fit in a smaller fridge it'll be thrown out), and take the containers to the showroom to see how they fit. You might find that the fridge you're looking at will hold everything that you want in your fridge, easily (probably so for the SZ), but you might find that while you can fit all three open wine/juice bottles, there's really no room for several eggplants along with the rest of your produce. :)
