Built in fridge/freezer recommendation.
Comments (1)For size, look at Columns. SubZero makes some now, though I don't remember the sizes. The most popular columns are Thermador, which are right between mid and high range. The way columns work is you combine the size of the fridge box you want with the size of the freezer box. If you install them next to each other, you buy a thermal connector. Once they're trimmed out they look like one. Miele are the high end columns that use the same boxes as Thermador, but their own electronics and all. In the U.S. they're sometimes more expensive than SZ, but it might be different in Canada because SZ is made in the U.S. BSH is the German parent company of Bosch, Thermador and Gaggenau. They make Bosch and Gaggenau fridges at the same plant in Turkey (as well as the Miele boxes). I've heard that Bosch columns aren't sold anymore in the U.S., but you might have them there. They have a lower price point, so probably fewer features. Gaggenau have all stainless interiors and stainless shelves. If you want an industrial look, or you have a patient at home who makes sterilization of the fridge a priority, this could be an advantage. I think it's just expensive and grim looking. Anyway, for 48", you can pair a 30" fridge column, and 18" freezer. I wouldn't like a narrower fridge, but they also make a 24" if you really want the 42" total. Columns in general install fully integrated and flush. You can panel them in any way you like. Some also offer factory panels in stainless, or perhaps several finishes, if you'd rather....See MoreBest built in 36 all-refrigerator and 30' counter-depth freezer?
Comments (13)Not sure about the "Consistency" of my good friends advice here. First He recommends the SZ, by now most folks know about the copper problems(2004-2007) that contributed to their bottom ranking by Consumer Reports--even one of their marketing guys admitted that. He or another SZ type also said that another reason for the low rating was they had a 2 year warranty, instead of a one year. Now I don't know bout you, but I don't get a "warm fuzzy feeling" knowing that enough SZ's needed warranty work in the 2nd year to contribute to their low reliability ratings. We haven't seen these types of posts recently regarding SZ problems--so--I guess we can assume you feel they corrected the problem/problems and hence you recommend. Take a look at recent posts about Elux Fridges (within the last year or so), most are now positive---so why not "Forgive and forget" like you do with the SZ. I, in fact, had recommended not buying Elux Refrigerators, due to the earlier posts, (alto I'm very happy with my other Elux appliances)----Now I am keeping an open mind, due to some of the imformative posts by the Ladies above! We can learn a lot from these Ladies (Above), if we keep an "Open Mind" Cheers! Gary...See MoreSubzero 48 inch built-in vs. Miele Fridge/Freezer - Please help!!!
Comments (8)Yes we are putting them side by side and probably don’t want the panels. Yes we are getting 2 dishwashers. I really like the Miele with 3D cutlery tray at the top. I suppose we could still get 1 Miele dishwasher with the Thermador package but if we were to go with a 30 inch Thermador fridge and 24 inch Thermador freezer with external dispenser, with stainless panels and professional handles, would be about $5k more than the SubZero 48 inch builtin fridge for us. And Thermador like Subzero does not have printshield finish. And new Thermador freezer with external dispenser has no shelves on the door so less storage. So even though we really considered Thermador for everything, switched to Miele or SubZero/Wolf because we also want a combisteam oven which apparently are better by Miele and Wolf. Anyways, think I am leaning to Subzero fridge/freezer but worried will be sorry not just getting everything Miele. Miele’s prices just went up today too even though also started back up 10 percent off deal. Miele just seems like excellent quality and ease of use, even though probably more drawn to professional look of Subzero/Wolf. So confused!!!!!...See MoreRecommendations for up to 30" counter-depth fridge-freezer please
Comments (0)I sometimes think this is the lazy option, to ask GardenWebbers, but I'm struggling a bit with options, so here goes! I'm looking for a decent refrigerator-freezer that's less than 30" wide, counter-depth, freezer on the bottom. Definitely do NOT want side-by-side, don't mind if it's got French doors, or one door, but, if it's only got one door, it has to be hinged on the left. Don't mind if it's not *exactly* counter-depth, as I'm not aiming for that "you'll never know it's a fridge underneath that nice panelling" look. Don't want water/ice hook-up, either. Height doesn't matter. Don't mind what colour; cabinets will be dark blue, so probably black or stainless. If I could figure out how to get it to match the cupboards (without going the panel-ready route, which is way more $$$), I would! Don't mind spending more for the perfect fridge, however we are in rural Canada (Ottawa), and it's not so easy to have the high-end brands serviced, so that pretty much rules out Liebherr, definitely rules out Miele, probably rules out Sub-Zero, etc, unfortunately. I thought I'd found the perfect one in the LG LBNC15221V, but, in order to switch the hinges, LG says I need to pay a certified technician to do it, which simply annoys me, sorry. Apart from that it fits the bill nicely. https://www.costco.ca/LG-28-in.-15-cu.-ft.-Platinum-Silver-Counter-depth-Bottom-Freezer-Refrigerator-with-Smart-Cooling-System.product.100357488.html So, any other suggestions? (I currently have a Frigidaire Professional all-refrigerator, and it's fantastic, and it's going out into the pantry (lucky me!). Unfortunately they don't appear to make an option that fits my criteria.)...See Morehvtech42
