Miele dishwasher and size of drain

I'm about to get a used Miele La Perla I installed and was reading the requirements for the drainage. The plan is to hook up the drain to an adjacent sink.

My plumber has put in an 1.5" tailpiece with a branch drain. The branch drain (for the dishwasher) is 0.5". According to the install guide, a 7/8" branch drain diameter is required.

How common is that?

I went to my local Home Depot and the plumbing section guy gave me a funny look. He then pointed me to an adapter that has 0.5" and 1" on each end and 2 worm-type clamps. My Miele installer said that wouldn't work too well. (He said the sensor might record that the drain is blocked.)

I'm going to a plumbing supply place to pick up a properly sized branch drain / tailpipe like the included URL.

So how common is this sized branch drain? I'm in Canada. If given the choice, would you get plastic, brass, chromed brass, or something else?

Here is a link that might be useful: Sample tailpiece
