10ft Ceilings - Run Cabinets All the Way to Ceiling?
Comments (26)I love the look of your kitchen, babs, I think the open space above is a great look. Unless you have money to burn AND a too-large kitchen, I vote for 8 to 8.5 ft of cabinets with cove lighting above. What does cove lighting do? It gives soft indirect light which is always more flattering than high wattage central bulbs. Plus for smaller kitchens it highlights the openness of your ceilings and turns dark, murky shadows above the cabinets into a pleasant accent feature. I love all your stacked/stacked look pics above, guys, especially with the backlit top row. But worth the extra money over cove lighting? Probably not unless you have an unlimited budget or you've REALLY REALLY gotta have it. Then you probably should get it. :) Davif...See MoreShould you paint 10 ft. ceilings same color as room?
Comments (1)I have always liked the ceiling and trim a crisp white and then using the color on just the walls. It gives the rooms a very light and airy feeling....See MoreHow High Should we Hang Curtain Rods on an 8 ft Ceiling
Comments (3)Curtains generally look best if they are hung high and wide. Stock sizes of curtains are usually 84" or 95" long. Measure up from the floor to figure out where 84 will land in relation to your window. If 84 is too short, you'll have to use 95. 95 might be a little cramped by the ceiling but they will look better than panels that are too short. If you are crafty, you could hem the 95s or add some fabric to the 84s. Make sure your curtains appear wide enough to cover the windows even if you don't plan on closing them. You don't want them to look too skimpy. Here is a good graphic about curtains. I like all the advice except the pooling suggestion....See MoreWhat ceiling height to use 9ft or 10 ft.
Comments (16)I much prefer 10 foot ceilings as long as everything is proportional. I agree there is more drama with the higher ceiling and kitchen cabinetry that goes all the way up looks great with lighted glass fronts. It really is a matter of personal taste. Some prefer it lower and say it’s more cozy. To me it feels more claustrophobic. Honestly though, my home feels super cozy with our 10 foot ceilings. Lighting, color scheme, and decor are what really contribute to having a warm and inviting space. It’s hard to make this kind of decision for someone else. If, when you’re in homes with the higher ceilings, you really like the look and feel, then that’s what I’d go for. Our first floor is 10 foot and we did 9 feet on the second floor. I could kick myself for that one. We should have done 10 on both floors. There is a VERY noticeable difference when going upstairs moving from 10 feet to 9 feet. Our upstairs landing feels like a hobbit space in comparison. IMO, if one has a two story home, both floors should have the same ceiling heights....just looks and flows much better that way....See Moremegradek
