DIY Carpet Steamer/vacs?
Comments (7)None of the carpet cleaning methods actually use steam - even the professional units mounted on a truck use very hot water and extraction. When we had carpe, I had a Hoover Dual V Maxextract and was pretty happy with it. It allowed a separate water only rinse to remove traces of detergent from the carpet (important to prevent buildup which can actually attract more dirt) and the maxextract actually left the carpet pretty dry. However you do have to take you time and go over it slowly for best effect. Much cheaper than professional especially since I cleaned the carpet every 3 months.... and since we started with new carpet and vacuumed frequently we did not need some heavy duty cleaning (no stains or severe dirt). If you have stains or very dirty carpet a truck mounted machine is probably much better. Rental machines are definitely no better than the Hoover. I owned a Bissell in the past and was not happy with it - it didn't suck up the dirty water very well and left gunk in the carpet....See Morepros and cons of hardwood vs carpet?
Comments (19)Landlord, I'll chime in on your apartments. I don't know anything about Terrazo, but we ripped out the carpet in our apartments and put in hardwoods in the living room areas and upstairs hallways. We left carpet in the bedrooms for sound, and on the stairs for sound and safety. We also were tired of having to recarpet every couple of years, as people absolutely destroyed decent carpet. We put in prefinished hardwoods ourselves (DH has a handyman business), and I love how easy it is to clean up. We had some damage to one area, but he just pulled out an area of boards and replaced them. They are no longer as sparkly as when they were new, but hey, it's an apartment. A bit costly up front, but the cost is more than recovered by the savings of a couple of recarpeting jobs. As an added bonus, the hardwoods in the upstairs hallway makes the carpeted areas totally separate. If one room needs to be replaced, we can do that with something that matches, without having to replace all of the carpet. This was a suggestion from our carpet installer....See MoreHaving carpet cleaned today!!
Comments (16)Since you all were talking about Stanley Steamer, I called Mom to see who she planned on having do her carpets. She said she has decided on Chem Clean. I don't know if anyone else has this company in their area or not. Apparently, they don't make the carpet as wet. Next week I'm going down to help her move out some of the smaller furniture pieces, but I guess the Chem Clean guys will move the sofa, ect. She has carpet in her kitchen and hates it, it never looks clean and she's hoping they can make a difference in there....See Morepros and cons of EVP vs hardwood
Comments (44)zaccaii, I have 1200 sq. ft. of SUPERCore Krypton sitting in my garage. As soon as my husband’s doctor clears him from his surgery we will start to install it. I took the single box I ordered first and clicked it together in my kitchen in front of the stove and sink where I stand for several hours a day. It has a foam pad on the underside and is very comfortable to stand on. I had porcelain and ceramic tile floors in a previous house and there is no comparison. The SUPERCore is very comfortable to stand on to me. If you have reservations, why don’t you order a box and test it out. My husband has a bad back, and I have knee problems so we both wanted a floor that was comfortable to walk and stand on since we are in socks or barefoot in the house....See Morejannie
